My Xbox One X Has Sold on eBay, but...

...the buyer has no history as a buyer or a seller. He or she has no feedback whatsoever and became a member of eBay only this year. So, I'm hesitant to ship them my console, even though they have already paid for it and its shipping ($298.00).

What should I do?

Recall my other thread in which someone repeatedly made sketchy offers for the console by offering amounts greater than the price for which I advertised it and by asking that I contact them outside of eBay (via phone); you can see the thread here:

EDIT:

Why does eBay list the paid amount as $276 but PayPal lists the amount on hold as $267?

EDIT:

I've already canceled the buyer's order. I'm not taking any chances.

If you had no restrictions on your auction, and it sold to a buyer with no feedback, you should honor the agreement and send it once you have received payment.

With this and your other thread, sounds like a local buyer would have been a better idea, even if you got a bit less.

As long as you are going through eBay it should be fine. I would still proceed with caution, I had a not too pleasant experience with eBay as a seller where the buyer lied about the condition to get a refund (luckily they did send me my phone back with no issues.) Most things I sell on eBay I never offer a refund so the buyer pretty much has to force it. They made up some weird reason to get refunded (phone gets dizzy, what the heck?). The only positive for me was that I didn't get a different thing then the one I sent.

I sold things for around $200 with new buys before and everything turned out find.

My suggestion is that you should take a lot of pictures of your console before shipping. Take close pictures of the warranty stickers, barcodes etc. Send them a message with pictures of the barcodes too just to confirm this is the console you're going to ship to their house and you want to protect yourself and the buyer from fraud.

I would be worried if they ask to contact you outside of Facebook or ask you to send the item to another address. Someone tried to scam me before accepting my offer and then never paying for the item.

If you want extra protection, just pay a little extra for insurance on shipping. If the item is damaged, then there's a chance USPS, UPS or FedEx will cover the damages for the item.

I wasn't aware that restrictions could be placed on listings. Tell me more, please. Also, what happens if I cancel the buyer's order?

He will return an empty box and reclaim the money. that's my bet

My plan is to use a body camera to record myself demonstrating that the console is functional, packaging it, and then transferring it into the possession of UPS.

Don't send it. Cancel the bid and relist it. Trust me as someone who sells high value items regularly on eBay the buyer is always favoured over the seller in any disputes. You could be in for a lot of worry and stress, only sell to reliable buyers.

But...they've already paid. Won't eBay penalize me if I cancel the order?

They won the auction, they already paid you and you are planning to just cancel?
Are there fees for cancelling the payments? Will you cover them?

Of course you will be penalized and of course you will get bad feedback.
The review will likely read something like this :
"I won the auction and sent the money. Then the seller made up some excuse and refused to ship the item.
I got stuck with trying to claw back my money I already sent him. I think he is a scammer."

Yeah, good luck selling anything else on ebay in the future. Everyone will think you are a scammer.

I really recommend you just fulfill his order. Maybe stay off ebay in the future since it does not seem to be your thing.
I am just saying, as a buyer, I would be spewing fire if this bs happened to me.

Its buried somewhere in the options when you post the item, if I remember correctly its a check box something like "require feedback of 5 before bidding". The other posters are right, if ther person is legit you might get bad feedback if you back out.

I've sold an item unexpectedly via PayPal on another platform (grailed), but here is what i can tell you OP:

- document as much as you can
- verify the buyer's details via the payment form they have submitted
- ship only to that address
- do not accept returns
- do not accept any adjustment to the address or name as a "correction" via DM

The last part is important. It is how they can "claim" that you didn't send it to the correct address or person if they initiate a charge-back. Even one missed detail can screw you.

I refused to budge on an address change once, and ultimately won a case against a customer who tried to initiate a dispute.

The buyer's address is a PO box. Is that suspicious?

If I cancel, will I owe eBay money? I ask because eBay lists the paid amount as $276 but PayPal lists the amount on hold as $267? Will I have to pay the difference?

Yes you have to. Unless you want so bad reviews that you can never buy or sell on ebay ever again.
No one will ever want to do business with you again over ebay.

You could call up ebay and let them know your concerns and see what they have to say. I would send a message to the buyer telling them exactly what they purchased and those messages will be saved for ebay to view if there is some kind of dispute. Ebay has seen it all and they have good scam protection as long as you cover stuff on your end.

It should not be, provided the details are consistent with the rest of the form. If you have any other apprehensions, eBay support should be able to help you ensure you are taking appropriate measures. That’s what they are there for, of course.

Why is there a difference in the first place? Where did the 9 dollars go?

Will you contact the buyer and explain and pay him these fees or will you let him just "sucks to be you, eat the fee"?
I bet if you don't he will mention that on your seller feedback.

I don't have to pay the buyer any fees. I have to pay eBay.

That's just Paypal fees, you'll get the whole amount back if you cancel

Just insure the package for the value of the console

Boy, do I disagree with that.

It absolutely is. As someone who sells high price electronics on eBay, my advice is to never sell to anyone with less than 10 reviews, and never ship to a PO Box.

I see your point. If they can just say it was never delivered and you lose your money!?
I usually stay away from EBay anyway.

Out of curiousity. In the US, if using standard postal service, can you request signature on delivery?

P.O. Boxes aren’t suspicious. I have one since I can’t get my USPS mail delivered to my house. I’ve got a 107 score on eBay with 100% positive feedback. Feedback or not, if the payment ended up legit in your PayPal then you should have honored the sale and sent him the items in question.

Pretty much. There are so many ways that buyers can fuck over sellers that I really wonder why I even do it.

I film and narrate everything I package & ship so I have it on record, then I even take photos of the boxes while I’m at the FedEx store. That saved my ass when I sold my Titan X Pascal last year.

A PO Box is an absolute no-go for FedEx, unless you choose SmartPost, and that involves the USPS.

There are so many reasons why an eBayer would not ship to one, they might as well make a class called eBay 101 and have the 1st lesson be called PO Boxes and You.

For mail, it’s no biggie, but for packages that involve valuable items...not touching that with a ten foot pole.

No, all fees are declared null and void once the cancelation is completed. The fact that it's a PO box address also is just the icing on the cake, you would be mad to send it in my experience. You will get a negative feedback from the 'buyer'/scammer. Eat it up and learn for next time.
