Ps5 won’t support ssd expansion at launch

I didn't say it was confirmed.. I'm just suggesting it's obviously something you should be able to do. Why would they not have such a basic feature?
I would agree it should be a given but the fact we have these stupid embargo’s masking features on what is technically a sold out console probably means they don’t want to show off certain things

the no 1440p resolution thing I was sure it was gonna be included as the ps5 is marketing fast refresh rates and a majority of the display market is in the 1440p resolution space but nope....

Your link shows all out of stock and the price for the 500GB is 138.99€.

But you can try to buy it and see if it arrives in these days.
Tell me after... I'm curious to see the outcome.

I'd bet they started with the PS4 OS though and worked up from there for PS5, so I'm expecting anything sort of obvious / easy to just be there myself.

Dude I could order one for pickup right now at BestBuy.

They came out almost a month ago; NewEgg is just showing a "release date" because they sold out and are expecting more.

They also don't actually list PS5 compatibility anywhere on their site... sooooo lol.. that came form some marketing image that who knows how accurate it was.

The fucking point is that you're saying it's not available, yet it is. I've said select retailers, I chose amazon because you can browse it in English for your fucking convenience.

in stock which means it's being dispatched in 1-3 days in their case

That literally means they have stock in their system... and other stores, don't.. and are getting stock soon.. notice how the store closest to me says Tuesday.

You are wrong, and such a weirdo.

The funny thing I bet they are not supporting to move games from internal to external for PS5 games, and external only works for PS4 games

Is it confirmed the usable storage is 660GB?

Guess I have to get an large external drive for storing less played games.
Nothing confirmed but that is probably ture.

PS5 SSD is 768GiB... so 664GiB for the user means only 104GiB is being reserved to OS... I somehow expected a bigger OS footprint.

All this info was already part of the road to PS5, like a lot of other info. Why people act if they need to install everything at launch. For most part, you will have your original PS4 games stored on your external SSD/HDD. There is enough space lol.

funny how those xbots acting “shocked”.
Oh get off your high horse, if this was Xbox in the same situation you’d be bending over backwards to be a dick about it.

How can this not be perceived as bad? 600gb at launch and no word on when it can be expanded and for how much? Pretty shocking if you ask me.

I'm always a bit perplexed about this. When downloading games to the console, are they measured in GB or GiB?

Lol stfu dude, the expension option for XSX is not even cheap or something. You act like you need that thing from day one or something?

Everyone who fills their drives with games they don’t play for months at a time obviously!!

Seriously, I own a 512gb SSD in my pro and I’m so so confused about what people do with 1tb spinning drives.
It's marketing, get us all to move to streaming. The digital push started mid-gen last gen, now almost everyone is digital.

Hell, I haven't bought a physical game since gamepass came out.

I've only filled my 1x, once. That's when I got my new 350mbps Internet and took it for a spin. Now way can I play 3 multilayer games, 5+ fps' witcher 3, PoE and a couple of crappy indy games, at once.

Sony step 1 - thanks for pre ordering the console

Sony step 2 - show a teardown. show how clumsy it is to install an ssd.

Sony step 3 - now tell a week before launch that how you cannot upgrade from 660GB usable drive space until sometime next year.

Are you saying that you have difficulties in simple tasks like when you have to change a light bulb? I have heard legends that many people do that even on their cars!

If one side panel + one screw is clumsy, then people can ask their care taker to help on this difficult process that they have to do maybe once in a gen :messenger_beaming:

It have been known for months that not all SSDs work + getting PS5 before 2021 could be impossible for people whom havent ordered it yet, so this minor thing affects us early adopters anyway.

And unless you are rich bastard that swims on gold coins every morning and your nephew doesnt wear pants, then anyway nobody buys that SSD before 2021 when prices drop.

Not sure about you but I own hundreds of games on Xbox so yeah, I probably will. I can upgrade it day on.

PS5 will fill up faster, and you can’t even upgrade it. You do the math.

GiB (base 2) like Windows.

Driver manufacturers uses GB (base 10) though that is why consoles have 500GB, 825GB, 1TB, etc in boxes.

Have fun installing all of them at once. I think you will run out of storage even with the expansion storage in a day.

No need to install of download games i don't play. At the time you're finished downloading and installing those games, I've might even finished playing some next-gen games.

Just use 1 of the old HDD to store your games on for the time being guys don't buy SSD just yet wait until official supported specs for SSD are release.

Oh wow, hard hitting stuff there. Just so you know, current existing games don’t suddenly disappear because new hardware launches.

Pretty glad I’m not being nickle and dimed for arbitrary reasons because nextgen !

Yeah whatever, I have more to do then playing different games every day. The PS4 games i'm playing or need to finish are on my external SSD, so i'm good thnx.

Enough space for my PS5 games on the internal SSD, and do not need to expand it from day one already.

But thnx for being so concerned about it!

SSDs are expensive. The majority will just move games in and out of the drive until prices come down.
In hindsight, Microsoft's expansion solution trumps the PS5.
The prices are the same at this point, and the convenience of just plugging it in better.

really weird that some people feel the need to tell other people they don’t need more storage

stop being such control freaks

This... for now...

In a couple years when we have PCIE5 drives and a 4 TB PCIE4 drive is less than $100.00

Then everybody screams about proprietary bullshit.

thats my concern though. 🤔
because PS5 interface is limited to pcie4 specs.
So they need to get the latest samsung 980pro and WD black to work flawlessly.
As these new drives are approaching the limits of pcie4.

Sequential read is what matters. Games stream data sequentially. Nobody is copying 50GB of data, they are copying a series of smaller files sequentially.
i hear you so what about when i download a game from the store? aka 100gb ultimate edition of spiderman?

also these consoles including Xbox series (they will be constantly writing to record gameplay in the background etc) i know i use to fill up my xbox storage on live with uploads.

was there anything out yet to buy anyways?
There is no SSD to buy... so I believe it is better to lock it until we have options.

I believe only the WD one is compatible but it is a non-existente item to buy anyway.
Just imagine all the people thinking they can just get any m.2 SSD to upgrade the storage...

Woof
Old news is old
"some people" don't know a lot of things. I'm fairly positive "some people" don't know a PS5 is coming out.

Exhibit A v
And my dumb ass bought a WD sn850

No worries your government job will cover it.
