Any PS5 headphone users impressed by the 3D audio?

I gave it a try for 30 mins or so on my XM3's, and it seemed nice, but it can't pull me away from my surround setup.

I wonder if Sony could release some USB Atmos dongle to get around paying for the fees for every system. Make it $25, I'd buy it.

How can you compare a 3rd party title on one console to a 1st party title (totally different game) on another one and claim it's a valid comparison?
Xbox fans keep saying they are not seeing the superior PS5 SSD speed... that is suck bullshit.

You can see how the SSD makes all difference in first-party games... it is is very valid argument for comparison with others platforms. Where are the games that shows that Xbox SSD can keep up with PS5 SSD? Where are the MS with the same level of loadtimes as Demon’s Souls or Miles Morales?

But hey let’s focus on the strongest point of Xbox... where the games that shows that superior 12TFs GPU? Deny first-party games is just a excuse for a loser... a bad one... first-party exists to show the best of your platform.

Sony shows you the superior SSD but Ms continue the same path of last generation with a lot of promises and talk.

This is being a worst generation start than Xbox One for MS... it is not Sony problem that MS can’t keep up with it own first-party games... Sony should continue doing the best for their gamers with even better first-parties that shows what the hardware is capable.

Whatever you do don’t sleep on Astros Playroom. It is amazing and that cannot be said enough. The game would be great even without the nostalgia but everywhere you look you’ll see characters like the a robot with the ape escape light on its head and another holding a net trying to catch him. And heaps of other classic Playstation game characters scattered all throughout the levels.

So we NEED raytracing?
I don't know about you, but Demon's Souls looks gorgeous to me.
But to your point, have you checked the Spiderman RT implementation?
I mean is more work for the devs to do lighting "just right" and also if you watched the WD: Legion video, the cube maps as a reflection looked ugly as hell...

Actually the SSD is already a big difference. Basically, the promise of the PS5's SSD and I/O configuration is not simply how your Mortal Kombat match loads so quickly. When you have storage that fast it means you can have more and higher quality assets sitting in RAM for the GPU to draw without worrying about needing to have "cold" assets sitting in RAM. In the Digital Foundry interview with Bluepoint, the developers mentioned the ability to stream in blocks of data as soon as the player rounds the corner. They also offhanded mentioned 4 gigs per second of compressed data. There are probably some areas where that number is even higher. Again, in doing so, the details of any given scene can be cranked up. Sony is hitting two birds with one stone here. First off, alleviating RAM constraints by being able to stream in data so quickly. Second, have games look better by letting the GPU draw more assets in higher fidelity. Don't let a launch game from a third-party cross-gen title to give you an idea of what PS5 is capable of.
Exactly.

People really need to stop thinking that SSD’s are only good for loading. That’s just one of many benefits having it as baseline brings. It changes the entire development process and what developers are able to do when creating game worlds. It’s no small change!

I encourage everybody to watch this GDC presentation from a developer at Insomniac. He explains in detail how limiting it was creating Spider-Man using the PS4 HDD.

Thank you. I've been telling people months now on this thread and other places how the SSD is a game changer when it comes to gameplay design and the extremely efficient utilisation of RAM, how it enables the developer to hold significantly more assets into RAM for the next 1-2 seconds of gameplay which allows much more geometry and textures to be loaded in and out thus more "fidelity".

"But hey how on earth does a "magic SSD" improve graphics?"

If the "less capable/less CUs" machine can do it, I don't see why this is a problem.
The big question here is, since when Ubisoft became the "quality open world benchmark"?
I'm not as active here lately, but this is news to me.

Oh okay, gotcha, I meant that certainly RT has it's uses which are absolutely better than other methods.

lol Alex not shy about his feelings on the PS5, he is calling it ugly on twitter, but written only in German so it doesn't get noticed by too many people, cause obviously it's impossible for anyone to decipher another language on the internet!

Let's see how far his disgust towards PS5 goes once that comparison video drops.

really ... Im very surprised how Alex is ignorant compared to all of his FRIENDS and COALEGUES in digital foundry

Most people are still stuck in the past when it comes to storage, even the ones that claim to be hardcore PC gamers. When it comes to PC performance, it basically came down to the three main pillars: What's your CPU, GPU, and how much RAM you got. Now it's CPU, GPU, RAM, SSD and I/O. You're already seeing Nvidia, AMD, and Microsoft utilizing unique storage solutions like the PS5.

He isn't ignorant. He just has a smug elitist know-it-all attitude and looks down on things that are too mainstream and beloved by the masses. That's why he can't hide his disdain for Playstation and it's fans.
If he is elitist he would despise xbox the same as playstation..
but he likes xbox actually

That anyone can write this with a straight face when "SSD Secret Sauce" has been doing the rounds for the last 7 months is, in and of itself, amusing :messenger_grinning_sweat:
How can anyone with a straight face try to equate those two things?

The 'SSD Secret Sauce' is at best a meme on this forum and maybe Era. The Xbox 'MOST POWERFUL' narrative has become established in all of the gaming sphere. Fanboys, youtubers, and even so called respected journalists have been parroting MS' marketing line all year, again and again, with no real data-driven evidence whatsoever. IGN, the biggest gaming website in the world, wrote in their review for the XSX that it 'offers more power for the same price (as PS5)'; so they are recommending the console to millions of readers based on a supposed power superiority to PS5. That's how deeply rooted that particular narrative has gone. Nowhere have I seen any official review tout the 'SSD Secret Sauce' as a selling point for PS5 over the XSX.

Also, Xbox has been actively spreading this FUD all year. Phil Spencer himself is on video saying the XSX is 'the most consistently powerful next-gen console' and he said this immediately after Craig was shown for the first time. Sony has never marketed the PS5 as 'the fastest console in the world' or 'best SSD secret sauce ever!'. They are not even close to being the same thing.

Good point, I think how we look at things like gameplay, graphics and performance needs to change because as next-gen is proving the current paradigm is starting to change and evolve. As with almost every other forms of technology we're moving away from brute force solutions and heading towards "efficiency", meaning work smarter not harder. A good example is Apple, their mobile ARM chips are stuffed with more and more hardware accelerators for specific tasks and workloads each year and now their desktop/laptops are following suit and the benefits are just crazy, there's a reason they blow the competition out of the water when it comes to overall performance and efficiency.

I think Sony is headed down a very similar route as Apple with the PS5 and it's going to follow suit with the PS6 or whatever, with deep customisations made to the APU which all contribute to the overall goal of performance by being efficient and incorporating more and more hardware accelerators for different tasks. Like the I/O unit handling the entire data stream into RAM and loading, the Geometry Engine handling everything which is being rendered onto the screen and eliminating unnecessary GPU workloads, GPU cache scrubbers ensuring the GPU is fed efficiently with data, the Tempest chip handling and accelerating sound and audio workloads, I could go on but you can see the pattern here, work smarter not harder.

More PS5 impressions:

- Everything is fast.. that's really my big excitement for next gen since I'm not a graphics whore
- Demon Souls seems fun; only played until I got to the first boss then died/quit but it seems like a game I could get into once I understand the jank a bit better
- The adaptive trigger tech is really cool at least in the demo at the beginning of Astro. Impressive tech
- Other than that though... the 10 minutes I spent in Astro + 10 minutes in Demon Souls the controller was fine, but the haptics are just another kind of rumble for the most part, nothing mindblowing.. no the water does not "feel like water" to me vs. the sand "feeling like sand" lol
- Kinda same for the 3d sound; it's pretty cool.. you get a 3d sense every once in a while, but honestly when the audio isn't "sounding 3d" (like when you get that cool sensation with a good 7.1 system of being surrounded by sound) it sounds weird... like the quality is lowered

But the system is faaaast... booting media apps is fast, downloading is fast.. loading games is fast... THE IMPATIENT MANS DEVICE!
I think the controller was the best part. It doesn’t make you feel like your walking on sand, but having the different sound when you are on those different environments is what I enjoy about it. The system being fast is my second favorite thing with the PS5.

In the Digital Foundry interview with Bluepoint, the developers mentioned the ability to stream in blocks of data as soon as the player rounds the corner. They also offhanded mentioned 4 gigs per second of compressed data.
Which is exactly what Cerny suggested a dev could do with PS5 in the first conference.
Almost tired to see how a top-tier engineer is right and PC-builders on GAF are wrong.
Surprises never stops coming uh.

Yeah It's pretty chonky. Was it like this on PS4?
My downloads load have been fast and crisp so far, then the PS App tells me when it is done. However, I’m only getting 383 Mbps instead of 1 gig. Although I don’t know much about internet speeds. What do you mean stop doing that don’t do it again
