Next-Gen PS5 & XSX |OT| Console tEch threaD

Xbox guys are grasping at straws here. It always amazes me how short people's memories are. Xbox One X, on paper, is about 50% more powerful than PS4 Pro. Now while it truly is more powerful, it's nowhere near that paper spec. Same can be said for PS4 versus Xbox One. Somehow all this is forgotten when comparing PS5 and Series X. 18% more power on the paper spec? mUsT bE tHe aCtual DiFFeRenCE! Give up the ghost, guys. It's all just splitting hairs at this point. Both will show slight advantages here and there in multi-platform titles.

In this thread the reason why people say that variable clocks and smart shift are bad is basically two reasons.
  1. Variable clocks make the system weaker because the clocks can go below the max clocks.
  2. Variable variable clocks make development more difficult because the clocks are unpredictable.
The truth is that both of these statements are false and having variable clocks combined with SmartShift is actually beneficial to the system. The PS5 would be worse without them.

yes ... I agree completely
before launch the 2 points you mentioned were common on many people minds
but lets not forget smart shift is new and I don't think sony and AMD will put a feature that make a console that play games weaker
and lets not forget the new ryzen gpu cards use the same variable high clocks as ps5 and I doubt this is a coinsidense

Ryzen is the CPU part of the APU, Navi is the GPU.

It is weird because AMD and nVidia are using variable clocks to get more from their chip from years (perhaps a decade) already... that is why they said base, game and boost clock.

It is not something new and it was never bad.

I thought this was a really genuine reaction on his part. I guess multiplats play better on the PS5 but not for the reasons we were thinking.

Fucking 'ell this console. Sony have delivered from top to bottom with this damn thing - OS, controller, hardware (praise be to Cerny's genius), SSD, exclusives...I know I walk around with a vibrating DualShock (soon to be Sense) up my bumhole but genuinely, honestly, this thing is the most exciting PS console since PS2 easily.

After playing several games on both the Series X and the PS5 today I traded my Series X to a little birdie friend for another PS5.

The PS5 controller is truly next gen stuff and I am slowly replacing all my systems with the PS5.

Series X, while a great machine, just doesnt do it for me between Quick resume being a complete mess and just not having the games I want to play.

I will still be hanging out in here because some cool stuff coming at The Game Awards and really enjoy talking to some of the guys here.

Xbox seriously messed up their games launch. Its unfortunate that Halo got delayed, but they didn't even have any thing besides Halo. If you buy a Series X, its like upgrading your PC, its not a "generational shift". People laughed at Sony for saying "we believe in generations", yet its the only console currently showing again what a generational shift means. I have no doubt that the Series X will also get there, but as of now the PS5 already delivers the Next-gen experience. That being sad, i am looking forward to whatever both companies are cooking up for us in the feature.

And this is why you should never jump the gun and assume which console will play multi-platforms better.

Same thing for Benji sales. He had to stop playing the game because of the screen-tearing. It's funny. I remember all those guys were proudly saying they were all going to play on the most powerful console in the world their 3rd party games, only because they naively believed a marketing and FUD compaign directed by Spencer and co.

I'm still keeping my Pro incase I get any BC issues with the PS5. Really struggling to find one here but I least I got a DualSense to use with my PC for the time being.

sooo am I the only one that loves godfall? Lol
I've been trying all the games so haven't spent a TON of time in Godfall yet...Demon's souls sucked me in for today...but I'm enjoying Godfall. It's different....beautiful and so far I'm having fun. I know it's getting harsher in reviews....not sure why. Maybe because it's not a Souls like game? But I'm liking it and glad I got it so far...a few hours in. I play stuff really slow and completionism so a few hours in for me..not that far. :)
