Gave Astro another shot and found some cool areas that really show off the haptics.

Definitely can do some neat things with it; still unconvinced it's actually a "revolution" or whatever hyperbole people are using.. but I also haven't checked out COD or any game really using the triggers much.

Is this dlc?

Someday fanboys will learn not to talk shit because it normally backfires.
Sad to see The Medium is DLC like Spider-Man Miles Morales.

I had my 5 year old try it. He liked it but got frustrated fast trying to jump to a platform and rage quit. He may end up being just as bad a gamer as his old man. Ha

Serious questions:
- Have you played some other platformers recently? I really can't conceive giving Astro's such high scores when you take the nostalgia glasses off.
- Have you played the Switch? The haptic feedback seemed like a small evolution of what it did some years ago. I was really expecting more.

Great first impressions Bo, enjoy it!

Switch uses LRA (Linear Resonant Actuators) and they’re very tiny since it has to fit in the joycons. They barely have any affect.

DualSense uses VCA (Voice Coil Actuators) which are very large and operate differently. It’s a much more advanced technology that the DualSense is using as many videos explained in depth already.

I understand different people will have different experiences with it based on what they feel and expectation of that vibration feedback. But please stop comparing it to the Switch controller or saying it doesn’t do anything and it’s not that great.

You yourself don’t care for it and that’s fine. That doesn’t mean the DualSense isn’t doing exactly what Sony made it to do. As been proven by reviews and personal experiences.

With regards to the 3D sound effect:

- I've realised that with last gen games, you are better off switching it off completely. It created a 3D effect from audio that was not designed with this tech in mind, and can actually throw you off the game. Case in point, Apex legends. The over the top 3D affect made all other sound slightly muffled. I'm sure I could get used to it over time, but not really needed. So I switch it off.

- In new games that are made with 3D audio in mind it's actually quite nice. Case in point, Demons Souls. Sounds great on it and since I haven't played demons souls with normal audio for over 500 hours like I have with Apex, I have no reference point for "non-3D audio". So for this I switch it on.

This brings me to a my pet peeve on the current audio options on the "Control Centre (quick menu)". It doesn't let me quickly switch 3D affect on or off. You have to go all the way into the full settings screen, audio screen, then scroll down to 3D, then switch it on or off. Would make life a lot easier if there was a simple switch in the quick menu.

With regards to the Trigger:

I have set mine to "low". With close to 1000 hours of rocket league and countless hours on FPS games, my trigger finger is majorly fatigued lol. The resistance, while feeling great, very quickly starts getting uncomfortable for me. I blame this RSI entirely on rocket league lol. Blasted game is making me miss out on such a cool feature. Envious of people who are able to keep this on high and enjoy the affect fully.

With regards to Haptics:

Really like it! Really enjoyed how its able to simulate vibrations are specific parts of the controller and vary the type of vibrations.

With regards to UI:

Smooth as silk. Needs a bit of getting used to though. Way too used to double pressing PS button to jump between 2 things. Can't technically do that anymore.

Everyhting else:

Bloody brilliant! Bring on God of War!

I put the triggers on Medium and they are perfect now. They felt like gun triggers, literally, with their stiffness. When I come from work I don't wanna go to war. :lollipop_anguish:

It’s a good chance to use the cards. They make it much easier for platinum. I think I’m going to love cards system on PS5.

Yeah squeezed all the collectibles using them! Pretty brilliant!

Speaking of storage, I have 200Mbps fiber, and downloading Spider-Man MM as we speak, and it showed me around ~30min. For people with 1Gbps speeds, you should never even talk about storage! Just fucking delete the older games. I might not upgrade the storage, honestly, as I don't pile up my games. Buy one, finish it, go to the next one, like a real serial "gamer".:messenger_winking_tongue:

Genshin is so fucking fun! Must play. Bugsnax is boring as fuck, but it's actually creative and I can see many like it.

This is what I do on PC since Steam comes close to maxing out my gigabit fiber.

PSN isn't quite there on PS5, but it's fast enough to where I could delete a game on a whim knowing I can download it fairly quickly anyways for sure.

Well, with me it's nearly maxing out my speed at 25MB/s (200Mbps), which in a perfect world that's 26min for Spider-Man MM but it's around ~30min I think or 29.

Yeah I've been getting roughly that same speed.

It's really fucking fast... just not quite as insanely fast as Steam can be. On Steam I've downloaded 50GB games in the time it took me to go get a cup of tea lol

I know those are two different things. I was talking about my experience with them. I don't know where I said it's not that great, that it doesn't do anything or that it wasn't more advanced. I only said it does nothing FOR ME and I was expecting more.

Most issues people has is data cap not the speed.

I have a 250Mbps connection but when I break the data cap it down to 20% of that.

Well I just let the download happens during the night.

As someone who suffers with tinnitus, I endorse all of this message 👍

I'm amazed I haven't had hearing issues. I like my music loud as well...less so on headphones...but bottom line, my hearing is still EXCELLENT against all odds! I'm hoping that means it won't degrade so much as I get older...guess we'll see.

I have to say on this subject...I'm going to try my "expensive" headphones over the holiday wired to the DualSense controller, but as for the quality and the "3D audio" on the Pulse 3D headset I have been AMAZED so far. Especially for a $100 headset. First the range...I had a high end turtle beach wireless headset for my PS4 that used a USB transmitter like the Pulse does. I would get audio skips, breaks even just sitting on the couch sometimes and FORGET about running into the kitchen- would definitely lose connection. Also would get a weird, tinny echo sometimes that could only be fixed by restarting the PS4.

With the Pulse...I can go all the way to my front door with no signal issues! Again, I wouldn't say overall that they are better sounding than my "expensive" headphones, but it's a different product. What I AM impressed by, besides the range, is the "3D audio" piece of things. Sitting as the "boss" Old Monk in Demon's Souls, I can hear all the creatures around the tower and as people fight their way around the tower I can follow their progress thru the audio. It really does a good job of projecting direction- not just 'left or right' for the sound. Really feels like sounds are BEHIND me and at varying degrees.

So overall I think these headsets are a great value for people to get a good sounding headset for their PS5. I'm very curious to try my expensive headphones and see to what extent this "3D audio" is dependent on the HEADSET, versus the PS5 itself. We shall see!

It’s a good chance to use the cards. They make it much easier for platinum. I think I’m going to love cards system on PS5.

I'm confused a bit about the cards. I THOUGHT the idea was to use them to take you to parts of the game. For example, if there's some event in a level in Demon's Souls that there's a card for, I thought that selecting it would take you to the game and that location? But it doesn't. Just takes you to the main menu of the game. So I'm missing what the cards are for, I think, besides just reminding you of things you need to do maybe? What am I missing?

I have to say...I briefly tried GodFall, which thru the tutorial level basically I'm thinking is cool and fun, a little bit of Spider Man Remastered....but then I got sucked into Demon's Souls and haven't gone back to any of the others yet. Oh, and did one region of Astrobot while games were installing.... I gotta find a way to get into some of the other games, as well as a few of my PS4 games on the external hard drive! :)

The Card’s ability totally depends on the devs. If they didn’t utilize it, then nothing would happen.

I have been thinking that lately because of what is happening graphically with SX and PS5.

In general to my understanding there are in SX real problems being able to use 12-14 CU per shader array and Shared Memory problems. Due to bandwidth problems, cache hits and I don't think it's a question of the dev kit. Something could be solved but in general I think it will be complicated and we will have to optimize case by case.

However, I also think that these additional CUs will work for mathematical calculations without exporting textures on SX.

In other words, graphically we are observing SX: 40 CU x 64 shaders x 2 OPS x 1825 MHz = 9,344 TF of graphic power and 12 CU x 64 shaders x 2 OPS x 1825 MHz = 2,803 TF FP32 or 5,606 TF FP16 to execute the DLSS AI (not dev yet). They could also be used to execute RT but only ray calculation they do not have bandwidth to store textures and make HIT in the caches, that is, they do not serve for RT reflection only GI with temporal ray count.

I think SX is developing its DLSS and sony has opted for temporary injection. The two ways to achieve this are impressive and I can't tell who will win. Since MS will have to rescale from a lower resolution to 4k with its DLSS and the other will do it from a higher resolution with temporary injection. Not to mention that MS DLSS should be quite in its infancy even and by the time they can include it it will be too late.

Bottom line: MS is a good machine but the stupid MS have done terrible marketing and haven't finished one of their main design functions for launch, which coupled with the stupid marketing has ended up by simply trashing their own console themselves.

Who runs MS marketing? I already remember the same people who have carried out the campaign so toxic this generation. Umm, I'm not surprised.

What do you think geordiemp geordiemp ????

Yeah, same here....my PS4 was slow, usually 20-40Mbps. The PS4 PRO felt WAY faster and averaged about 80Mbps and sometimes up to 100! But the PS5....Definitely getting 200Mbps and higher. Not sure if that's due to Wifi 6 but bottom line, the throughput is way faster and most welcome. Makes me think that online co-op activities should be much more lag free as well. Honestly, the PS5 is a huge upgrade in EVERY area so far. It really feels like a giant leap ahead, where the PS4 felt more like a good (and I mean really good) upgrade to the PS3 but really was more of an evolution of the PS3 as opposed to the huge leap PS5 is.

Ah..so it SHOULD work that way...but just isn't in Demon's Souls because they didn't build in that support for it. Good to know! I guess that's ANOTHER reason I need to get to running some other games and not just Demon's Souls! :)

Must admit, a little miffed at all the little problems xbox series x and PS5 are having. Black screens, reboots, artifacting, crashing. Don't recall the previous gen doing this, seemed more stable.

Somehow, I don't feel as bad I don't have one. Hopefully they iron out these kinks asap.

Even if it's not speculation I need a quick info, every 30 minutes or so my ps5 drive start spinning like crazy (even if I'm in the dash) it spins for about 30s then stops, its really noisy (a La ps4 pro ), is there anyone in this situation? Is it normal? Starting to get a bit worried (never happened on pro). Thanks

It's just a minor bug, nothing to worry about, mine does it too sometimes.

Nah, plenty of people had PS4's and XB1's that had launch issues. DOA units...optical drives that didn't work, and video artifacts. It's normal. I think we're seeing more of it posted now versus 7+ years ago due to the prevalence of Twitter and forums. More people just post that stuff now, that's all. No huge issues like RROD or anything, at least not yet. Now...the tale will be more if people start having units die after 1-2 years. These new consoles make a lot of heat..so it will be interesting to see how long they last or if there are any issues that way.

Pretty sure that's a result of the explosion of social media. I mean, people fart and tweet a video about it, nowadays.

With the insane rise of social media you are going to hear about literally every hardware defect that pops up making it seem much worse than it actually is.

Nowcry, did you think that maybe AMD and Microsoft engineers have thought on that? I don´t saying that you are wrong, no but I´m saying that maybe they have a good reason.
Anyway, doesn´t make sense talk about things that it´s necessary a huge knowledgment and experience about architectures of GPU and other things.

It is very funny to see people with no experience in GPU development talking about problems with bandwidth or CU's. Surely AMD engineers would laugh a lot seeing the atrocities that are said.

So John is now analyzing people who disagree with him based on their language and heritage......He is providing more stats on twitter on twitter responses than in his Dirt video, we never saw the better performing 120Hz mode on Series X that he alluded to......

Spain is more Playstation than Xbox, i can guarantee you that
Spain is one of the most sonyer countries, here even Vita performed well.

But xbox fanboys here are let's say too 'passionate', very hardcore and sometimes some of them are too aggresive or toxic because of being influenced by a very popular xbox fanboy youtuber who is really toxic and constantly spreads lies and conspiracy theories throwing shit frequently to popular gaming media outlets, so sometimes several of his fans after that go to harass them.
