HI Another gaming PC thread. I went from console gaming to PC gaming about a few months ago and I'm still learning the little bits. I'm hoping the experts here can help.

So I got a work laptop and I'm going to keep that in a seperate room. I'm in IT so I've got full admin access to no worries there.

What's the easiest way of remoting into my gaming PC and allowing the use of my Xbox controller from my laptop?

I've seen Steam link showing up when I google but doesn't that require a box? Also does that ONLY work with steam games?

I have a strong internet connection so speeds shoudln't be an issue.

Anyone else tried this?

In-Home Streaming

You should be able to add any non steam games into your steam library as well.

Steam in home streaming works well when you’re “in home”. try moonlight if you have an nvidia card. Works really well in and out lol

As others said, in-home streaming from Steam. For the controller, just connect it to your laptop and it should work normally.

It doesn't require any sort of device to work, just a local network.

I believe it should work if you add it as a non-steam game on your library, but i'm not 100% sure on that.

Wouldn't setting up the firewall to allow access only on the private network be enough?

A little out of topic but if you work remote with an *admin* professional laptop, you shouldn't be allowed to connect to anything but the company VPN. Allowing Inbound traffic from the grandma basement network would be a big NO.
Then again I don't know your activity so I don't want to appear judgemental.

IIUC Moonlight works off of RTSP and Parsec is creating their own protocol called BUD (Better User Datagrams)

I use Moonlight all the time; I remote into my compy at home all the time and play games or work on person stuff and what have you. Ive been starting to tinker with Parsec but haven't done much of it

I would not use ANY streaming tech right now to stream anything like a shooter or that requires fine precision. This works great for RPGs and stuff, but I would not suggest beyond that
There IS still latency
EDIT: Also, no wireless on either end for the best experience
