The first comparison I saw was DMC5 where the Xbox outperformed the PS5 in 3 out of four modes, Call OF Duty has big drops in RT mode on PS5, Dirt 5 had big drops in 120hz mode on PS5 and now Valhalla drops to 51fps on PS5 as well as PS5 Watch Dogs having no puddle reflections.

It's nowhere near as clear cut as Xbox One running in 720p v 1080p on COD Ghosts.
They “fixed“ the XSX drops by lowering the resolution.

This is thread worthy and imo fuck sony if true:

Maybe we're reading into this wrong. Assuming this is an actual thing, I don't think it will be a less powerful console. It's entirely possible it could be part of a new streaming service. PlayStation Lite could end up being more like a Amazon/Google/Roku streaming device. Something like this could be announced if Sony really does have a plan to take on Microsoft's Game Pass.

highly unlikely, it doesn't even make sense, manufacturing and releasing a cheaper console in order to fix their current manufacturing shortage?
Probably to catch up with Xbox sales next year.

To reduce price, they could either reduce the SSD capacity to match the Series S, redesign the console to allow better cooling and less expensive solutions, and allow DS4 controllers to be used so you don't have to include a DualSense in the box.

What do you mean catch up?.

Sony already has an all-digital $399 SKU. They can't just make a 500GB SSD SKU and offer it at $299, not even $349. In the first place, there is no point for Sony to do that.

The very idea that Sony is planning to launch a new "cheaper" console barely two weeks into the PS5's life to "combat shortages" is lol-worthy and stupid. I can't believe some people are actually giving credibility to this bullshit rumor. It doesn't even make sense logically. Sony already has a cheaper PS5, it's the PS5 Digital Edition, and that sold out even faster than the disc based PS5. Wake up people!

Your comment is a bit odd and the upper case part seems like a complete strawman.

All things being equal - that can be equal - a heterogeneous APU(CPU+GPU) with unified memory will outperform a discrete PC system made with the same specs & combined total memory - with a modern game engine like UE4.

The XsX is a hybrid setup - because of its memory pools - but it still incurs the major disadvantage of a discrete system.

I was talking about the discrete pools of the PC RAM, no amount of hardware upgrades will change the nature of how it works. This is how series x performs s similar design with less latency due to unified memory.

The whole argument here is that some comments seems to imply that even if you just use the slow part for non GPU tasks the 560gb/s is stalled which is not the case.

Great ideas, but they could drop the price even lower if they just don't include the console.

In that regard, I genuinely believe that Xbox Series X needs to be repriced at $399 and Series S at $199 to have a good chance of competing with PS5 and PS5DE.

PS5 seem's to pull ahead in the 60 FPS version with sharper shadows and Series X/S also seems to be missing some folliage.

DF claimed the Series X was clearly ahead in the 120 FPS mode because it didn't experience the same drops as the PS5 did in a certain area, although judging by their own clips even the Series X was experiencing some big dips as well.

DF claim many thinks but don't provide statistics, yet I remember like they were saying Sekiro XBX was better version because VRR and I suspect this is the case too. They are analyzing subjectively.

Besides they are always comparing different scenes and duration. That is because is stupid when people post images and you see different scenes running at different framerate.

4k 60 FPS got a few drops on both consoles but they are almost identical framerate-wise and mostly stable with spikes to 50FPS here and there. PS5 has visible better (sharper) shadows and visible more foliage - albeit the difference is not huge.
120FPS 1080p mode works pretty well (80-120 range) but its about 5-15 FPS higher on XSX and thanks to VRR it's less noticable. Still PS5 got better shadows and foliage.

It's conveniently based on only one section, there are other sections showing a similar performance advantage for PS5. I would wait for Vgtech's metrics for a relevant picture on performance.

DF in 120fps mode comparison in borderlands 3 said both are dropping when series x commanding 5 - 15 fps in some scenes for seconds while series x and ps5 both drop to 90 fps sometimes
But they conclude although both consoles drop unevenly for seconds each to mid 80s while series x lead 5-15 fps in one section in the game for seconds but series x wins performance cause of vrr

bullshit since 90% of gamers do not own vrr capable TVs and developers do not design games around features not spread yet
and they did not stress that ps5 having denser foilage and better shadows could impact performance in these series x lead sections
and vrr can make it to ps5 anytime

Im tired of DF making excuses for series x performance using vrr while mostly no one has TV that supports it ... they portray it like it is series x exclusive tech
While they do not excuse ps5 performance drops in valhalla since it has vastly superior res or in borderlands 3 since it has better foilage and shadows

Hard to Kill
I never liked the Metro UI, and I never said I did.

But it bogs my mind that some people here bash Microsoft for that horrendous Metro UI but defend with their lives the PSN Store UI changes.

Microsoft learned their lesson, and is sticking to what works. But at the same time people are hating Microsoft for not being "revolutionary" like Sony at the cost of functionality and usability
Wait so you aren't happy that microsoft got shat on in 2012 for a horrendous UI favoring tablet users and fucking most of their userbase that were PC users.
And somehow compare that UI which is literally what you use to do everything, to a store that most people have no problems with and in which you spend considerably less amount of time in ?
And somehow you don't get how incredibly weird this comparison is ?
So you think MS can't win because when they shat the bed with an atrocious PC UI people were unhappy but when they don't change anything for a next gen console people aren't happy either?
I'm suprised I have to say this but Pc and consoles aren't for the same things,Pc user have a cursor that is precise and the metro UI fucks that up for an interface that suits monkeys slapping the screen.
And for consoles people want to feel next gen and a new UI can help with that, especially when 3rd party games look abrely better and that you have no exclusive to show off.
That's a really uncanny way of thinking of you, poor Ms got shat on in 2012 when they fucked up why isn't it happening in 2020 when I don't like their store( even though most people don't care).

The driving scene was like for like, no VRR needed for Xbox to have the advantage. VRR just makes it even better.

we know the series x lead in this scene but DF said in other levels series x and ps5 both unevenly fluctuate fps between 120 fps and mid 80s unevenly and don't forget higher density foilage and better shadows hit performance too

Which is why the like for like scene is the best comparison, they should drop the settings on PS5 to get better performance. Framerate affects gameplay whilst the foliage really doesn't. It's very smooth with VRR on top.

We need more of this so we can get our hands on these consoles. Fuck those scalpers.

I think Sony middle east did a great job here, having your name and number written and pay full price upfront. Scalping was very minimal although consoles were still not enough but most if not all preorders have been met so far with a new wave coming again of in-store preorders.

Goes with what I've been saying. I dont think the gaming community at large is ready or willing to go for a lower spec'd digital or streaming box.

Digital is nice but not if it is lower in power, hence why PS5 has the advantage. There is no gap and no development for two different system specs, which it seems developers haven't been too keen on leading up to these launches.

Yet in even more identical scenes than that driving one the ps5 is ahead, or there or there abouts.

Care to explain that one 🤣 To win a mode you actually have to be better in that mode, not just one scene.

OK so here is as close to a match in scenes from the vid as that driving section was, yet ps5 is ahead on most or give or take.

Not quite the 'win' for xbox in that mode its made out to be is it.....
