Why Some People Hate TLOU2?

The gameplay was good and I enjoyed Abby's sections a lot more. than Ellies on a strictly gameplay perspective.

But the story was all over the place and played shock value for shock value's sake.

For a good example, ever watched Prison Break? The last season's episodes ended almost episode with some kind of twist to the point where it got boring.

Well, that's the Last of Us 2's issue, it peaked too early with Joel's death and the twists and shock factor just didn't matter anymore.

1. You either understand what good narrative is, or you dont. No need to say what's your case.

2. Besides that, using a beloved game and destroy its legacy just to put your own ideology and politics down through people's throats, and even brag about it,
is something well deserving of all the hate he can (AND MUST) get.

If Druckmann wanted to tell something about revenge, he could just wrote a book, or make a new IP, and leave TLOU where it was, but no, he had to use it as a marketing tool for its awful story.

I call bullshit. Ya’ll started creating this “Joel is iconic most loved and nostalgic” character idea since shit hit the fan with leaks, and it just got worse from there. Joel was, wholeheartedly, not one of the most beloved characters in gaming. Lemme just say that. He was fantastically received. Great great character. And he and Ellie have become quite iconic. But this sudden harping on about him AFTER the leaks was just so blatant and out of no where, I kid you not. He had his fans, but not to the extent the lot of you go on about him now. Weird. And he can absolutely be used as a plot device. Why not? Oh you guys WANTED to know he was gonna die but you wanted it to happen at the end of the game, on YOUR terms. Sounds pretty boring and expected. I loved his character. But I’m in no way hysterical about it as some guys in here have been acting. And I’d like to understand that. Why does everyone else who liked the character act crazy about him dying.....but I have no problem with it? I genuinely loved the character. Even the basic average male design of him.

Going to reverse the question on to you. Why is it that you and others get so offended that people don’t share your opinion on this game? Why is it that you folks keep making threads trying to sell this game as the second coming of Jesus?

I would argue that the fanaticism you and your contemporaries have for this title is far more overzealous than the supposed “hate” you claim it gets.

People had pretty high praise for the first game along with the left behind DLC. He was interesting because of he was imperfect and had just enough hints of his less than stellar past.

As far as being upset he died... gonna have to say no since it was believed he was dead in the first trailer years before any leaks. People assumed it and that they’d be playing as Ellie in a revenge type scenario.

So yes it is how he died, not that he did.

I thought the game was fine but was just horrible to experience. I never want to play or look at it again. Too dark and depressing.

It's not criticism as such, just personal taste.

I can’t agree with that. They are both miserable and bring everything down. So tiring going into a thread only to see these same 10 people crying about how not everyone sees the supposed masterpiece they see.

not to mention the insufferable claims of “bigotry” they make.

I loved the game and I think it's definitely the best game of the year so far, maybe of current generation even in terms of impact and themes and how it manipulated you into empathising with such a character.
But for those who can't it's tough, it's very tough. So yeah, it's a test of empathy and openness and if you don't have it in you you'll hate the whole thing.

ND could've avoided 90% of criticism if Abby was slimmer with bigger boobs (think Miranda from ME2) and I think most people know it subconsciously. But to me, that's the genious of TLOU2 because it forces you to hate her so very much.

This is why I can't take any of them seriously when they try to argue that it was generic or cookie cutter. If it was it wouldn't have gotten the type of reaction that it did and nobody would be talking about it still.

They ruined the amazing relationship between Joel and Ellie, and on top of that they ruined Ellie personality as well.

In the 1st game you are in this post apocaliptic, world gone to shit setting and Ellie with her bubbly personality its like a sunshine with all her humour, the relatioship between Joel and Ellie is just great, as it starts by being just a delivery for Joel, it turn out in a father/daughter relationship over the game, and it just works, it made me care and protect both characters the entire time.

In TLOU2 its all dark and grim. Ellie lost all her sense of humour, Joel dies by the hand of a coward that after being saved by Joel still spent her sweet time torturing him. And the cherry on top of the cake, is that the game then makes you play with this POS character for half of the game using cheap psichological tricks to make you care about her more than u care about Ellie. (With Ellie you kill Dogs, with Abby you play fetch with Dogs). And at the end of this clusterfuck, Abby is the only one that got her revenge. Ellie loses pretty much everething, for absulutely nothing.

This was the 1st game i remember that i played with a main character that everetime someone killed me, i giggled. This should not happen, i should be playing with characters that i care about and want to protect, not characters i want to kill myself.

Game has better gameplay than the 1st one, insane animations and top graphics, but the story and characters ruined the experience for me. I could not even do a second run or platinum the game, and i had platinum every NaughtyDog game since the 1st Uncharted.

Did anyone feel the need to make this thread after TLOU2 won something? No. We just accepted it won, told a few jokes and moved on.

But God forbid when it loses. People now need to explain why they dislike a game, as if it is a crime or something. Like I said. TLOU2 fans are the fucking worst of this year by far

For me they did everything right except abby and co. These characters just didn't click with me and i could never empathise or sympathise with abby. That's where things really badly fell apart for me, as you play as this character for the latter half of the game. I hope they just start over with new characters if they do a tlou3, i don't even want to see ellie again as the character is just depressing now.

People haven't moved on.

You still see people making videos about how about the last of us because they're upset.

You would get sales threads about the last of us just to prove how the game flopped when it didn't.

Any positive TLOU threads gets the same haters trolling the thread. lol

The same hate happened when TLOU2 won the people choice award in the other award just few days before.
It is not related to who won or lose actually.

I'll list you my personal reasons. Keep in mind I played un-spoiled, and for about 10-15 hours until I gave up out of boredom. Oh, and that I liked TLOU but don't hold it as one of the greatest games ever made.

  • False advertising. Yeah, I put this the first because what the fuck. Imagine going to a movie expecting Leonardo Di Caprio but instead the actor is Charlie Day. Okay, bad example becuse that would be awesome but you get my point.
  • Bad pacing. I literally almost fell asleep during the prologue. Later on it didn't improve very much but it was more bearable. Also don't get me started on the open area when you arrive to Seattle. What the fuck was that?
  • Bad writing. I lost count of the amount of times Ellie and Dina weren't killed only because of plot armor. Also Joel giving his bank account details and a blowjob to total strangers... Yeah, not very well done.
  • Meh gameplay. I shit my pants anytime I read anyone calling this the best TPS. To me, it felt just as the same as TLOU, but removing the knife so now clickers are a joke. Dogs as enemies where fucking cool tho. Also most of the stealth is reduced to wait till an enemy turns away and stabbing them from behind. Go play MGSV if you want good stealth TPS gameplay, this is shit in comparison.
After selling the game after two days of being bored by it I went to the internet and spoiled myself. Didn't miss much from what I saw.

Of course this is just my opinion and I don't find an issue on people enjoying it at all. I also don't have and never had an Xbox.

I just find a bit cringey when people call it their favorite game.

Collectively you've demonstrated time and time again that you possess zero ability to accept that, and instead have refused to even countenance their opinions to the detriment of reason to the point where no one takes you or your fanatical friends remotely seriously. You blew you forum credibility for Neil Druckmann.

Only people who thinks that juvenile hero comics are good, thinks that The Last of Us story and structure are good.

Heck, even if a story is not good, you can tell when the structure is good, like Minotaur, by Benjamin Tammuz. That book is so well structured, that it should be taught for every wannabe writer in the game industry.

The real question is why it bothers you people so much whenever someone dislikes TLU2 or not.

Its not possible to dislike the game. Its not possible to dislike the main characters, otherwise you're homophobic(which is hilarious, because people still likes Ellie).

So why should people even answer to those questions? We're reaching a point that you're supposed to like something, otherwise you're a hater.

I don't hate TLU. I just dislike pretty much the stupid route TLU2 took by trashing the main characters in order to push characters I don't give a shit. The story is trash imo. But god forbids you from ever liking a character. How many times I see the usual suspects(one even in this thread that keep jumping whenever someone spokes of TLU2)using the same old excuse tatics? "You guys are mad because xxxxx".

It doesn't matter really. Because years later this game won't be remembered like the first one. It will be remembered for its convoluted story and division between its own fanbase.

I liked the game until they killed the best and most popular character after Nathan Drake to replace him with Pig Abby.

I finished the game, I could see the quality in the gameplay but I was too pissed off at the story to enjoy it.

The whole thing was a a forced cringefest. They basically rehashed the story of TLOU1 but with Abby and Lev. What was the point of this? The franchise is ruined. Psycho Ellie can die too. Bye.
