Cyberpunk 2077 currently looks really bad on PS5 (not a shitpost).

All the previews are the PC build, they didn't give out console builds, and now we know why.

I'm playing on the standard PS4 and the game looks like it's covered in fog, they scaled down the game to make it fit on all consoles and will release a "next-gen" console update next year.

But it can't possibly look this bad, even on PS4, it hurts my eyes to look at it for long because it's so foggy, it's completely insane and should have been pushed back longer. The Witcher 3 looks a lot better. I also ran across more bugs than in Fallout 76, in the first hour, everything from t-poses, frozen screens, text that doesn't go away, animations that don't load, framerate problems, and more.

CD Projekt Red must have been absolutely desperate to release this on consoles in this state, it's gonna take a year to patch it.

A generation of "waits". Wait for this, wait for that. Unfinished game being sold in BETA state... wait for Final release patch but give me your money now to please investors!

Simply don't buy the game now and spend your holiday money elsewhere. At least on PS5 you have plenty of options. Plenty of good choices. Come back to the game and purchase it later (perhaps by that time at discount) when things have been ironed out. Why mess up your experience with a bugfest that should still be in QA? Your enjoyment of the game will/could suffer as a result by taking you out of the immersion of the moment to moment gameplay. Ohh well...

This is completely opposite to my experience with the game on a 2080Ti on PC. Game was maxed andwhile I didn’t have the frame counter up it felt completely smooth and I’ve become fairly sensitive to frame drops since ps5 and spider man / demons souls.

Only reporting what Giant Bomb said, that's Gerstmann on their Cyberpunk podcast.

And to be honest, choosing a stream randomly earlier today, the PC guy had the exact same problem : whatever settings he chose, the framerate dropped to single digit while watching himself in the mirror... DLSS seemed the only way, but that guy didn't like the loss of image quality it brought with it...

Ok, my character just glitched out in the mirror and suddenly got a vagina. No joke. He just went nude and his dick is gone. Can I change this later or did my dude just become a lady?

This game is the buggiest thing I have ever seen. This should have been released holiday 2021, not 2020. I still like it but wtf, it's the worst example of "ship it now and patch it later" I have ever seen.

Honestly twitter is gonna be a shit show tomorrow when the flood gates are fully opened. The investors might shit themselves if the screenshots and bugs here are a common occurrence.

Tom's Hardware also did a benchmark test, although all reviewers were told not to do it cause Denuvo DRM screws up the game in different ways. You simply can't trust what you've seen the past couple of days.

I double dipped for the PS4 version to play on PS5 and that copy will be here Friday. But after seeing how amazing my performance is on PC and seeing how this looks on PS5, I need to decide whether I'll keep it or not.

* Just started the game - the resolution is so low that you hardly can see any details on face in character creation. It looks like something reconstructed to 1080p.

* HDR does not work on my Q9FN - it just washes out colours.

* some effects are so fucking bad that they looks like a bug (below you can see a shadow of a character that is in front of a car in which V sits - so he is fairly close to the camera)

This game... should not be released looking like this.

But it's the ps4 version of the game. You get it upgraded for ps5 for free in a couple of months.
Its good on PC though, looks amazing and I'm playing in 1080p with everything ultra and RT on.

Lol dude, you know whats sucks? Not showing console footage prior to release. It is so beyond me how ppl like you are gonna defend CDP when they spit in your face. Yea, not showing console release was a weird move and now I know why.

And yet you still made the choice to buy it day one without seeing any console footage first.

CDP didn't spit in your face, they thought you were a functioning adult and responsible of prioritizing what's important before making a purchase as a consumer.

I’d be upset if there weren’t next-gen optimization patches coming. But they are, so I’ll suck it up for now as an impatient person who needs to play it now.

Same. I'm treating it like a Bethesda RPG where I I'm there for the story, characters, questing etc. and know it will look rough in places and have a lot of bugs--especially at launch.

I've heard there is no fidelity/quality/resolution mode on the PS5 version of CB2077, is that confirmed or not? I really don't want to play some unstable 30-60 rollercoaster at 1080p. I really hope for a locked 30 mode with better visuals.

There was an option to choose either in the character creation scree. You probably accidentally chose the vagina

Ummmm? I'm getting 4K, 70FPS atm with all settings maxed. Yet DLSS is enabled on ultra performance.

Ultra Performance DLSS means the game is running a 9x multiplier on the input res. So the input resolution will be 1280x720. Thats why its at 70fps. Surely that must affect the IQ quite a bit? Like quite blurry?

The PS4 version uses dynamic resolution and framerate - targeting 1200p/60fps on PS5 with almost no drops in both resolution and framerate.

The quality mode on XSX is 1200p/30fps locked. Performance mode is 1200p/60fps with resolution dropping down to 1080p and framerate in the mld 40s.

Not sure what you expected. Base PS4 and XBO are 2013 consoles, you'll have to drop the resolution quite a bit to make you play in a city with huge buildings everywhere like Night City... They couldn't design the game fully for 2013 hardware, or it would have looked terrible on next gen consoles and high end PCs...

I watched the PS4 base version running on PS4, it's not that bad. Even XBO looks okay.

If you want better graphics, maybe it's time to upgrade.

The PS5 version isn't even out until early next year.

Yea because I trust them. I also know they will fix this shit. But that does not change the fact that the game looks like something early-ps4ish minus 60fps.

But the console version is last gen.
Wait for the upgrade next year for next gen versions.

Did you get a comparison video ? Do you have a link ? If true, it would be a big difference between PS5 and XSX versions : nearly locked 1200 / 60 on PS5 and dropping to 1080p and mid 40s for the XSX... Are the drops frequent on XSX ?

Turning off motion blur, CA and DoF helped to clean image a lot.

As for HDR - I guess my TV is somehow fucked up with HDR10

Glad I could help a bit. Try seeing if you can play with the TV contrast, brightness & HDR settings a bit. A warmer image with darker darks without crushing the blacks is preferable.
I see a lot of people online brightening the image so they can see into the shadows, looks washed out.
You get used to the darker image after a while.

Its not that, it looks a lot worse than GTA or Witcher 3, there is some trick with the resolution that makes the game looks like its covered in a haze, this aint old system problems, this is cd projekt taking shortcuts visually. Millions will get it on ps4 and xbone, it should not have been released in this state on consoles.

That's ps4 footage btw.

You're still playing PS4 versions of the game on PS5. The game is meant to be consumed (purchased) the most on last gen where the install base is bigger. PS5 owners will experience the same product. There is no downplaying this garbage with but "it's this version" over that...

It's a PS4 game. It has no PS5 update, and probably doesn't even have a PS4 Pro update.

Also your PS5 can take screenshots and video, why not share some of them instead of an off screen photo that will always make it look terrible?

Not really though, the PS4 version seems to run fine on PS5 at 1200p / 60 fps nearly locked, so it's already a lot better than the blurriness you get at 900p with whatever framerate on base console.

This version is already tailored to behave differently on PS4, PS4 Pro or PS5. It's just not fully optimized for next gen.

That's really disappointing. I was watching some PC footage that also looked really mediocre with lots of LOD issues, pop-in, and barren environments. To me it didn't look anything special.

I thought CDPR were supposed to be technical wizards? Seems to be a universally unoptimized game. I guess we should have expected that with all the delays. I have the game pre-loaded but I'm thinking of just waiting a few months until it's patched for good (next gen patch)

I assume you are playing with the Day 1 patch?
i saw some of that leaked footage that was taken down a few weeks ago and yeah, it looked like a 1080p image reconstructed from 480p or maybe even 240p. it looked that bad compared to PC's native footage. blurry in ways even some sub 720p ps3 games never looked.

Dude, I know generally a lot about TV, had even professional calibration. This is not the problem with settings - there is something fucked up with HDR signal. Either its Dolby Vision which is not supported by Samsung or something is wrong. Other HDR games works like a charm hitting up to 1500 nits. Had the same problem with RDR2.

No. As a consumer you made a decision to make a purchase based on present information available at the time. Most consumers who made the same decision as you did and were planning to go with the console version either didn't care or were concerned just like and you and took the risk.

There's literally Digital Foundry-esque graph analysis posted in this thread and were less than a day into release. You could have easily waited a few hours post release if non promotional console footage was important enough for you.

Sorry, this is on you making an irrational decision.

Okay... For sure, there will be tricks. Such a game is not made to run on older hardware actually because of the incredible verticality of Night City, which is actually a first in open world games. Those ultra high buildings everywhere are extremely taxing for GPUs... It's a lot more taxing than the Witcher 3 was. Then you've got all the NPCs taxing the old jaguar CPU...

They'll probably improve that a bit, but there's no miracle with the choices they made.

I've been surfing through info all day and now I can't find the resolution comparison.
But here is the XSX framerate - if you compare that to the PS5 footage that's been posted, you can clearly see a difference.
