I miss the F.E.A.R. series. Any fans here and what’s your current favorite non-multiplayer non-RPG shooters currently?

I was reminded of the FEAR series today and I really had a lot of fun with it. I know it doesn’t do anything revolutionary, but it was fun, scary, and I really enjoyed it. I hope they do a remaster of the series at some point. Anyone here a fan of the series and would you be interested in a remaster?

It made me think of the shooters currently and it feels like most are either multiplayer centric or shooter/RPG hybrids.

So I’m curious are there any single player based shooters that are pure shooters with no RPG elements currently that you’re really into? I do like the RPG/shooter hybrids, but in have to admit I do like playing a pure shooter every once in a while and one actually built for single player, where the campaign isn’t an afterthought.

If you haven't already, download this and have some kleenex ready....

I miss Fear 1, the others are forgettable.

FEAR 1 is GOAT, but FEAR 2 is pretty passable as well. Played through it a few times and it got its moments (entire school section is great, most of the city sections are pretty awful though). FEAR 3 is not terrible I think, yeah it feels too much like a horror themed Call of Duty but I had some fun with it.

I mean if we're just talking pure shooters then have a look at what 3D Realms, Devolver Digital and New Blood Interactive are doing.

Each of those are simply pure unadultarated shooty goodness. Also aren't the new Wolfenstein games (or at least The New Order) relatively RPG-free and straight to the point? Loved TNO and The Old Blood as well.

Ion Fury wore thin on me as soon as the novelty of being in the build engine again subsided.

A lot of good shit posted in this thread.

Our timeline really sucks balls. If FPSs should have adopted the AI of the FEAR enemies we would live in a better world.

Don't miss on Bulletstorm OP, it's pure FPS arcade fun.

DOOM Eternal is also great, but you have to approach it as a first-person Devil May Cry and not as a sequel to the 2016 DOOM.

Fear is awesome. I love the first two. Never got around to the third. The modern Wolfenstein games are pretty great. I haven't played the newest one but the previous entries are badass.

The franchise would still be around today if they took the story seriously, because Pointman and his slow mo powers are worth it enough.

Fear 1 was one of my favourite game on pc, he still has some of the punchiest and satisfying gunplay ever, better than 98% of modern fps and the human ia trick you very well.

Amid Evil, Titanfall 2, DUSK, Doom 2016/Eternal, Hedon, etc.

It's actually a great time for these shooters.

Bulletstorm is one of the best FPS games ever. Highly recommended for fellow FPS men of culture.
I loved it. Over the top arcade action with no filler. Only cool mechanics like the kick, whip and the slowmo sniper rifle. It needs a sequel.

Btw isn't Amid Evil getting DLC? I loved the art style of that game.

Crysis is still a blast. I ’m currently playing through Doom (2016) but it’s too early to tell how I feel about it. The floaty controls remind me of Far Cry Instincts and are a huge bummer.

I regularly replay FEAR, HALF LIFE 2, The Doom Series and Crysis. Wolfenstein the New Order is good too but less replayable.

I don't really like having to sit through long slow ingame cutscenes on repeat playthroughs, I like getting right into the action.

F.E.A.R 3 is actually my favorite. Great memories of me and my friend playing co-op at his house. The abilities of both characters were different so teamwork was actually required, still need to try it out as the second player.

FEAR was incredible, it absolutely nailed the atmosphere and has one of the greatest shotguns of all time. FEAR Files was a good follow up as well, expanded the gameplay and lore slightly but still kept the essence of what made the original good. 2 wasn't bad, had it's moments although my main memory of playing it on the 360 was the horrendous motion blur. 3 looked so shit I never even bothered playing it, as it looked like nothing more than a generic FPS with all the horror removed. Plus it had probably the worst collector's edition statue of all time.

That girl scared me more than "The Ring" girl(samara?).
There was a part where you have to climb a ladder and that girl shows up somewhere near,
i can't remember it clearly now. That was very scary. I want a sequel for this game, it was fun.

Great thread guys, good suggestions! I didn't know there are this much FPS games out there, even though some of them in early access.

Just finished replaying FEAR 1 earlier this week and had a blast from the past. FEAR 2 I remember being alright, but not as good as the first one. I completely skipped the 3rd one lol. They still need to call the next one F.E.4.R.

Wish they would do a FEAR RTX with ray-tracing for the first one.

F.EA.R. was at its best when it wasn’t trying to be a horror game. The AI, weapons (shotgun!), and environmental destruction were all top notch.

One game I forgot to mention was Doom 3. I feel like I’m one of the few that had a good time with it. Oh, and Rage...

Man I miss this game, too.

The gunplay was just kinetic in a way very few are. I like to think of BLACK on the OG Xbox as in the same vein.

Trying to think of a contemporary game that does it justice but I'm coming up empty. Just a really nice game.

The gunplay really felt good. I think I need to replay this game.
