Gears 6 ideas - things you would like to see changed to revitalize the series

I have some ideas

-make it hard AF to beat, less checkpoints
-more enemy types with different attacks.
-vehicles
-destructive environments
-get rid of robot enemies
-epic boss battles at end of each chapter
-more melee weapons
-realisitic injury system affecting movement and aiming
-permadeath for support characters
-less pointless open world travel
-get rid of jack the flying robot

If none of this happens, make it like Hivebusters, not like Gears 5.

What do u guys think?

Does this series really need a story? People just play this to run around with shotguns on multi not aiming at shit and getting free kills.

Completely step away from JD, Kait and Del being the main characters as they're just not interesting and have used up every last bit of backstory they have at this point. There's nothing left to get out of them without retreading same ground and diluting them even further

As far as Gameplay goes I think they're in a bad place with the last entry of the second trilogy and being forced into certain things. They can't go back to focused atmospheric slow-paced approach, they basically have no choice but to go big bombastic huge setpiece and keep going in the direction of player choice which I think is a mistake for the series. At this point they might as well go ham and try all those crazy things with Verticality, Destructible terrain and new gadgets

I'd prefer they return to the locust hordes as the main enemy faction.

The Locust aesthetically boasted an iconic look, and a wonderful consistency to their design across all enemy unit types. Being an army of mostly humanoid monsters able to utilise technology.

The swarm are simply a weird amalgamation of more animalistic enemies and then weird tenticle-clad humanoid things that use human weaponry. They have no visual consistency across unit types and in general just feel waaay more uninspired in their design.

The first Gears trilogy with the Locust hordes, Marcus as the protagonist and more grim-dark, less colourful, more gothic world design, was for sure peak gears.

The more they've tried to move away from that with more affable, far less gritty and rugged character designs, with more lush and colourful backgrounds, and the horrible mishmash design of a new enemy faction, the weaker the series has become for me.

  • Expanse of the main story, more lore pertaining to interstellar or interplanetary travel
  • More vehicles to utilize; large tanks, walkers, motor/hover/magneto bikes
  • Off world bounty hunt missions/side ops
  • Ability to hire, train, and create strike teams
  • A starship to transverse in as well as to travel with. Ability to find schematics, research, and upgrade. Propulsion, armor, weapons systems. A drop ship implementation for recon, strike team(s)
  • More expansive level-design not unlike certain parts in GoW 5 (snow mission)
  • More vehicles, more destruction, more twisted monster abominations, more mayhem
  • Continuation of fluid player control, maybe a prone feature or ability to build emplacements using nearby debris. Gears 5 was definitely an upgrade over the earlier GoW's in terms of fluid play control
  • More metal music
  • Character/main protagonist creator
  • Not looking for a Destiny or Borderlands type game. Something familiar but not bullet-sponge-grind-fest monotony

No major changes just more interesting third person linear combat with better story and more interesting set pieces.

  • Don't have any characters say "chefs kiss" out loud.
  • Don't have a reference to Hamilton or any other musical.
This was the most confusing out of place reference I've ever encountered in any game, and I'm saying this as a huge Hamilton fan, like wtf does Gears have to do with it, is like the whole team just huge fans of the musical or did I miss something?

Give me more Marcus Fenix and delta squad. No more open world BS. Keep the game dark and desperate like the first. Got damn I love that campaign. Just give me something like that again, dark, desperate, brutal war for survival.

I'm all in for more gears, but they really should change to movement system to be more in line with the division. Current system was magnificent back in 2006, but it's heavily outdated in 2020 and beyond. I know multiplayer hardcore people would get nuts, but they're in the minority and they are whining anyway, so I would pay attention to them too much.

Everything I don’t want.
lol

If you want it hard , inconceivable + Ironman + mutators.
Options are a good thing.

i agree about the open world sections though.
Either get rid of them or make it a Hub to access different areas.

jack gives a layer of tactic in confrontations.
Injuries seems to be bad idea, gears has always been a mindless action shooter, that why it’s good.
It’s not meant to be the dark souls of shooters.

Gears Of Warhammer 40K - Get a Licence off GW and retire the Gears world.

Gears gameplay would be a great fit for a 40K licence, many different races, weapons, worlds would add so much variety.

When I was playing Hive Busters, I would have liked a more open world - not empty get from A to B but different ways to approach an objective.

I would like to see elements from the multiplayer woven into the single/co op mode.
So for an example, defending an outpost would turn into a Horde style holdout with a final boss at the end.
Hive busters could of easily be incorporated into the storyline.

When everything about the series is entrenched in the mid 00's there's not much you can do at this point to fix it without ditching a huge amount of it.

stop and pop is fucking boring
change the awful art style

Here is my idea:

Don’t make another Gears.

The series has done whatever it could do by the third game, Gears 4 and 5 are boring and ugly more of the same.

Find another Gesrs that is not a Gears.

Fill it with Juvvies or whatever they're called, and snatchers, have loads of snatchers.

Seriously though, ditch the mindless waves of enemies and have a more grounded and tactical approach to the game.

Okay I guess I have a few minutes to spare...

——

JD lives and goes back with Marcus to catch up lost time and help build up the tomato farm.

Kait gets out on her revenge quest but gets blown out of the sky in a chopper over the jungle.

Everyone thinks she’s dead and they start to prepare to continue her fight at the Locust home base.

Kait have no way to contact her friends, has to survive the overgrown jungle on her own.

Lots of new evolved wild life.

No classic Gears suit or gear, just a curvy and hot Kait in a torn tank top and ripped pants for some lovely social media noise and sweet photo mode pics.

Gritty jungle survival gameplay, craft weapons from junk you find and build traps, lots of stealth, new melee combat mechanic.

Eventually meet up with off-the-grid characters and team up to slowly go toward the original Locust target through the jungle.

Find a hidden old path through an infested part of the jungle with all new enemies and find the classic Gears suit and weapon 3/4 into the game in an overgrown fort for a cool God of War blades moment.

Go toward the Locust home base where the Gears crew are now fighting, but enter the queens lair from the backdoor for a surprise stealth attack.

Big boss fight. Queen survives but is severely hurt and flees.

Finally me up with the other Gears crew, who turns out to be Marcus, JD and the old crew who decided they weren’t done fighting yet when they heard Kait might’ve died.

Go on to have the biggest Locust fight ever in the history of the IP.

Huge boss fight with the hurt and desperate queen. Biggest and longest multi stage boss fight ever.

Humanity is saved!

Last minute, slowly pan the camera through some corridors, end at a science lab and show how an embryo of a new and evolved Locust queen is growing safely at an off-planet space station.

The End

——

- Take whatever you want from this Coalition. Especially the curvy Kait in a tank top, kthxbye 😉

Get rid of the gears kids quick, make it somewhat linear with the crossing paths for player 2 like gears 1. Do you go this way, or that?!?

Then put the rest or the time Into modes. Standard multiplayer, a rogue like, persistent multiplayer war thing. I dunno.

The gameplay is solid and needs applied to more shit. It also needs to not focus on direct deathmatch, because that deteriorates quickly with the skill gap.

Tak the Hivebusters formula and make it 10 hours long, and bring back OG team, JD is fucking bitch, nobody like him. Even though he is suppose to act and sound like Nathan Drake, he is like Nathan drake from Uncharted 5 (you know that one post Uncharted 4, so cuck, beaten by women, etc)....

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Having only played 1 and 4 (and just a bit of 5) I can say I hated how your cpu controlled pals could revive you at any moment. That made the game waaay to easy.

It also lacked the tone and atmosphere of the first one, which I felt was much more opressing and apocalyptic.

Also no story pls, just dudes and dudettes chainsawing shit.

Surprised people didn’t like the “open world” sections. I fucking loved them, gliding around in the skiff was so enjoyable. I had a lot of fun with it and it was visually stunning. The music that would play when the skiff would go full speed was so nice. They need to do more of that.

What they need to do imo is have more horror sections. I wanted darker areas which are scarier, more difficult, and more suspenseful.

The skiff was fun for 15 minutes, played it on a triple screen rig, that was sweet. But in the end the open maps were dead and served no purpose, it was just a mission hub to choose what action segment you wanted to do next.
If they do more of that they need to add a threat, wild life, enemies, enemies on their own skiffs, skiff upgrades, etc etc. It was way too barebone as it was, almost as bad as the Shadow of the Colossus traversals.

Wouldn't mind seeing a RPG version of Gears.
Microsoft should let a talented RPG developer take a swing at a Gears RPG. They have a few first party developers that could do that.

Why does OP say less open world? I’m a few hours into 5. Where are the open world bits??

anyway. I’d say:
- lose the linear corridor set piece structure. Open it up a bit. Not necessarily fully open world but something like monster Hunter maybe. Or destiny.
- add some exploration. Let me get to know an area a bit instead of the constant forward movement of locations.
- make the story more meaningful. Half the time I don’t know what I’m doing or why. I just move forward and shoot stuff
- please rethink those characters. The current ones are really dull. Let me play as Markus or make a new character whose even better.
- add a new enemy protagonist race. One that’s less monster/creature and more intelligent.

I want it to go and become The Division: Gears. They have a great & rich world that they can exploit and these linear campaigns just end up kinda 'meh' overall, and considering how long it takes to make & how quick you can finish the games, it's very unsatisfying. I really want to be a fan but MS has just proven to be a poor steward of the Gears universe. It's not really at Disney-level of bad for SW, but it has not achieved a moment of greatness either imo.

Yes the time has come. Depending on which ending they chose to make canon there could be a good revenge arc.
We already have a revenge story. Do we need two? I disliked JD and that’s exactly what the dev wanted us to do, but I also hated the way that ended for me, I had to play it again to swap ending. Marcus has already lost everything, no need to make his life even worse. The choice was such a crappy idea, and now they have two story arcs to worry about or lots of pissed off fans.

Every other idea in this thread isn’t now obsolete. Heck yeah!!!! I never knew how hard I wanted this until I just read your post.

YES... YES... YES to all things holy and the powers that be!!!

MS, Epic, heck any AAA console gaming publisher... please please please make this happen.

Space Marine was cool, but the Gears-like “stop and pop” gameplay formula with active reload and chunky character designs is just freaking perfect for a new WH40K franchise. Make it a sprawling adventure across multiple worlds with multiple enemy factions present (staring the Blood/Dark Angels or Space Wolves), without a silly generic title like “Space Marine” and I’ll buy that shit nine times over for every platform. (Also make it next-gen only, kthnxbye).
