It's between Inside and Undertale, some of the bigger games listed that are overrated are still at least 8/10 games to me.

Most overrated first party AC: New Horizons, third party MH: World.

RDR2 probably.

50% amazing technical achievement with incredible attention to detail
50% clunky tedious monotony

I dont count TLOU2 because it had such a huge backlash against it that just as many people underrate it (many without even playing it).

Also, I just saw someone else comment here that GOW combat is a souls-like wannabe, WTF?
Most people mentioning it never played it. Or played 5 minutes at best, of just straight up sucks balls at it.

metal gear solid 5, batman Arkham knight, control, last 3 assassins creed, jedi fallen order, fallout 4, ghost of tsushima, infamous 2nd son, and horizon
tenor.gif

Arkham Knight sits at less than 90, GoT barely above 80, Second Son 80.. you must think they deserved less than that i guess.

out of all of those, it's gotta be arkham knight, mg5 or control for me. if i had to choose one, batman Arkham knight. game is awful.

Welcome to the ignore list.

For me the most overrated is Last of Us 2, yet another 3rd person cinematic shooter that Sony loves to make (last of us, uncharted, days gone). Retarded story choices, no real improvements from the last game and agenda pushing af. What should I be so impressed about here? cause it looks pretty ? wew
Can't even imagine what kind of person one must be in order to put someone on ignore to defend a game with those mechanics, those cutscenes and that cover system.. just to then bashing TLOUII in the gameplay department. Happy you put me on Ignore so i'll never risk being quoted and read such things again.

RdR2, trash texture maps and horrible input lag takes at least 10 points out of my score.
Trash texture maps? The game uses POM everywere and it's basically the only free-roam doing so. Come on, criticizing RDR2 graphics is really absurd.

I've gotta go with:
Control.

I have no idea what you anyone likes about that game or especially what digital foundry keeps jizzing themselves when they mention it.
Because apparently people complaining about Sony linear games love literal corridors set in buildings with female protagonists.

The last of us part 2, by a huge margin. I don't even mean the SJW shit they shoehorned into the game, but the core gameplay is basically identically to the first game. And I don't even think that the first game was really special, just another generic sony walking simulator flavored with zombies. I don't understand how a game that is shitty can get so many awards. Opinions probably.
Or maybe you're just completely clueless beyond any possible reason about the game, to say what you just said..

Next time you want to criticize TLOUII without sounding completely ridiculous, just stick with the narrative.

So many people hating on RDR2, I’m actually surprised. You’re in a vast world during the late 19th century with limited technology, you live in a camp and ride a horse. What do you expect from the gameplay? This is not an action game, imo. If you don’t embrace the life of Arthur Morgan I think you’re playing it wrong.
It's because of its input lag, it's because of the loot system, and because of it's trash tier shooting.

TLOU2 is the worst sequel of all time and not just for games.
Out the serious ones (so excluding direct-to-video things and garbage productions), it definitely is to me.

Fake Fake just got the notification and wonder what exactly triggered you about this post.. that people saying GoW combat is "dumbed down souls" don't know what they're talking about? That Arkham Knight being called an awful game by a TLOUII superfan is bullshit? That RDR2 textures are not trash? That TLOUII gameplay being "basically identical" to the first one is a completely clueless comment when i've never witnessed (outside of reboots) such a massive departure in gameplay from one game to it's sequel, given how the entire playthrough made on dodging and melee and prone would be literally impossible in the first one? That RDR2 have awful input lag, beyond annoying loot mechanics and trash tier shooting? That TLOUII is one of the most disappointing sequels of all time?
In my book these are all facts.. but given how GAF is a Discussion Board before being a social media, let's discuss.

I mean, did you even play it? Lmao
Yes and Wii U and Switch. It’s perfectly fine. I’m not a huge Zelda fan and I don’t think Nintendo is God’s gift to gaming.

It’s a perfectly ok game with great climbing and a nice visual style.

But like everything with Nintendo, Nintendo fans won’t shut up. Everything has to be compared to BoTW. Everything must be taking influence from BoTW. BoTW is the most important game! The most influential.

You don’t like BoTW or don’t agree that it’s gods gift to gaming? Something is wrong with you.

Post like yours and the other dumb one are prime candidates as to why Zelda and Nintendo fans are the worst. Even worse then the dumb “OMG how dare they put a trans character, your shoving your politics blah blah” Last of Us 2 haters.

I know rdr2 has some gameplay flaws but comeon people rdr2 is probably the greatest game of the generation when it comes to story, atmosphere, characters, world.
There is no better protagonist than Arthur,
The way the gang moves from town to town the mission variety everything was perfect
Putting rdr2 on this list is a sin

A small percent of whales always fund largely free games for everyone else.
Can’t wait for to see your proof of the breakdown of how people spend money in this.
Regardless, I don’t think the game is overrated. It’s just super popular. There is a difference.

I'm currently playing through BOTW for my first time, and it's good so far. Not great, but good. Still prefer the pacing, world, etc of Wind Waker thus far. Overrated? So far yes. It doesn't do anything special or set a new bar for open world games. It is a great achievement for a Switch game for sure. Visuals and combat are well done.

There are some MAJOR faults with this game. Obviously the weapon breaking crap is beyond annoying, the lack of things to do that are unique in the world, the lack of music, the game runs pretty "meh" at sub 30 FPS often, the awful motion controls for certain puzzles, and a ton of gatekeeping to make natural progress.

Unless the game does some monumental changes, or all the divine beasts become more and more impressive... or idk the story pays out big? I just can't fathom all this next level greatest game of all time praise that was dropped on it.

I played and enjoyed the three winners and I think all three are masterpieces. Maybe my taste is overrated.

Vick Vick You don't need to take defensive position to prove your point. Opinions vary.

The poll is nothing more than opinion. Some people find TLOUS2 bad for 'X' reasons, others find 'TLOUS2' good for 'Y' reason. No hard science.

Just a little reminder that posting gif after gif don't make life easier for mobile.

Breath of the Wild is overrated because it was the perfect game for a console with no games as it revolves around running aimlessly ad eternum, great time killer, but people confuse this with being a great game, there's barely a game there.

God of War was an action game for the average gamer, everything about it is made for the lowest common denominator but with insane budget and polish, from the dumbed down soulslike combat, cringeworthy oscar bait writing and obsolete gameplay loop from the PS2 era with it's nonsensical gamey level design.
There were major updates across the board, but the guy that directed the new God of War was the guy who worked on the old God of War. Can't imagine he'd NOT include at least some of his favorite design ideas from the old days. It's all about an old man and his kid. Mirrors the experience you described pretty well, I think.

I'm not defensive but passionate, and firmly believe criticizing bullshit undermines real criticism. That's all, we're here to have fun discussing video games.

I get being annoyed by the usual compilations of hundreds of pics, believe me, but there are literally two GIFS in that post. Apologize again for ruining your navigation, but if i can't even post a few videos maybe put me on Ignore would not be a bad idea.

I'm a huge Zelda fan. It is not a bad game, but it is a bad Zelda. I'm not telling they shouldn't have risked to change the formula. The franchise urgently needed a change of air, and I still think going the open world route was the right call; but, what we got was an empty world with lame dungeons, lack of ability progression, lack of challenge in those dungeons and their bosses, lack of enemy variety, underwhelming story, forgettable side missions, and annoying weapon mechanics.

Game is far from being the masterpiece people claim it is. I remember falling into fanboysism and getting pissed off by the Gamespot review, and after finishing the game by myself, I told to myself "they were right, and they fucking nailed it".
If they got rid of the 120 mini dungeons and blew it out to maybe 20 huge dungeons with new weapon mechanics, you'd be a fan of the sequel?

Of the games I have played, not counting multilayer games which I hate because I hate multiplayer (story, worlds and characters ONLY), it's between Horizon: Zero Dawn and Ghost of Tsushima. Boring, wooden characters doing boring things in boring worlds that I don't care to experience.

I tried 3 separate times with Horizon, getting pretty far on 2 of the 3 attempts, but it just kills my want to play. Aloy is, at times, a character I'm into, but the painfully boring story, world, gameplay and characters other than Aloy simply ruin the game for me (again, 3 attempts!).

Tsushima, to be fair, I have only given it one 6 hour go, but did just recently try again, still to no avail; haven't touched it in a week.

Despite the boredom both games force on me, I'm not going to waive the white flag just yet. I hate quitting games and rarely do so, but these two are killing my want to play them.

I really don't see how tlou2 is overrated. They kept quiet, barely hyped the game around. It just hyped itself because first one was good.
And we got more of the same with a twist. I personally loved the game but I gave it a chance and did not held some grudge because of early game or fake leaks

Personally it's any open world game. I just can't get into them no matter how hard I try. BotW and Horizon are the two I really tried with too, and just couldn't do it.

Its not. Is the franchise inself.
As you said, opinions.

I personally loved the first one (including gameplay which was exactly what i wanted from RE6) and was extremely disappointed by the sequel.

I don’t know if it counts but personally for me it’s really Xenoblade 2. God what an atrocious pos game.

Every single aspect of the game was awful. The story was lame. The battle system slow and overly complicated for no reason. The character designs were generic anime garbage. The world such a downgrade from the previous game.

One of my biggest disappointment as a fan of the previous games. Just everything I hate about weeb shit.

Out of the games I have played from the poll, I'd have to say for me, it was The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

There may be nothing wrong with that game. In fact, it may very well deserve all of its accolades. But for me, it was a big letdown. I played it for a short while before I was bored to tears with it, and actually returned the game. (I rarely, rarely ever return games).

I will give it another shot in the future, it may click for me at that time.

Why do I not see Bloodborne on that list? (Ducks).
Seriously, I wanted to love RDR2 so much but it was soooo god awfully tedious and unfun to play.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake was the most meandering experience I've had this generation. The mini-games, the forced walking sections, the dated level design. It was a chore. Hell throw the weird textures on the pile while we're at it.
I'm a fan of the original game and I went in with fair expectations, but it was the only purchased game I didnt finish this year.

Am I the only one who thinks BoTW isn’t empty? It’s lacking in some areas, but it has a lot of content.
For me none of the content was actually interesting. Huge world, but every time I explored it led to a weapon that will break in 30 seconds of use, or yet another seed. I actually wish I could feel about BOTW the way fans do. As-is I felt like I wasted the time I did spend on it.

Having said all of that, my choice is still Red Dead Redemption 2, which I was even more let down by (and apparently is rated ahead of BOTW anyway on Metacritic).

This poll aged like milk, given the amount of GOTY's TLOU2 got. Cyberpunk takes the cake when it comes to failure to deliver on marketing hype. It definitely has not been a good year for TLOU2 haters, and it's only going to get worse for them once the HBO show comes out.

Every AAA game this generation is has been over rated. Mainstream video game marketing techniques inevitably makes everything overrated. If you're spending a significant percentage of the games budget on marketing, chances are its fucking overrated. Doesn't meant they aren't great games though

Maybe it´s me, but when it comes to game opinions I prefer gamers input over journos and press input.
