Capcom made a surprise 'drop' last night, giving PlayStation 5 owners a chance to sample a small section of Resident Evil Village in the form of the 'Maiden' demo. Is it 4K? Is it 60fps? What about ray tracing? D dark10x , Alex Battaglia and RE expert Alex Aniel for their views on the demo.

Summary:

- PS5 looks very sharp
- Looks sometimes a native 4k resolution, but there is some spots telling maybe there is a reconstruct tech in place
- John praise the image quality, but prefer to wait until the final build of the game
- HDR really exceptional, says John
- Alex say looks like this demo have a similar problem as RE2make, whith sometimes the black levels are gray
- Maybe because of the same color gradiant
- Can be a side effect of HDR while capture, so they turn OFF while capture the footage
- John said the problem found in this game are the low res texture when you get close of any object, door, etc..
- John said there is sight of RT on this game
- Alex tell the RT implementation looks similar to Devil May Cry
- The game runs at 60 fps most of the times with some drops
- Drops between 54~60 on the main hall of the mansion
- John hopes the game get VRR support at launch
- Alex Aniel tell there are more areas on the final game, maybe the outdoors could push more drops because of the enemy numbers, shootings, evading, snowing, particles, etc...
- John mention that the previous target would be last gen (PS4/Xbox One) and they move on to next gen on the course of dev time.

Add Raytracing to the summery.

It sounds pretty great too.
The "3d audio" is really an awesome step forward, and while still sometimes inaccurate in representing distance with misleading reverb to direct ratio - here that actually felt almost deliberate at times, as that can be used creatively to great effect, especially in horror.
Really makes me look forward to how actually hearing the position of your enemies in 3d space should become an essential game mechanic this generation, making something like a "listen mode" from TLOU a relic of the past.

Seriously if capcom on ps5 can achieve a full 4k experience at 60fps with limited raytracing then y couldnt hitman 3 be 4k 60fps on ps5? It really baffles me lol o well ita good know its doing good unlike dusk golem stating that its 1080p lol

The lightning looks much better in my opinion. It's much sharper and detailed as well. I like the demo, just finished it. Very good overall aesthetics. Gameplay wise I'm not convinced however.
Oh there's improvements, and you are playing the Next-Gen version too
I can not fathom what a Remake type RE would look like on Next-Gen

The dungeons look meh, the Mansion was nice
But nothing you haven't seen in the recent Remakes, some textures was bad while others highly detailed
The engine is definitely more suited to the 3rd Person style
Thats mostly because its cross gen nothing to do with the perspective, RE3 looks better than 2 due to the lightning/artsyle imo but that was a different team

The dungeon alone made me feel more scared than most of RE2

didn't watched it yet but form my playthrough i think shadows are raytraced
i found the thing weak visually overall though

Seeing frame drops in the main hall is cause for concern. What happens in the main game with enemies? Or big boss fights or larger open zones.

Absolutely incredibly demo, but when playing it I felt those frame dips, the game needs VRR support if it's going to be unable to fully lock at 60

We are at a point where reconstruction techniques/dynamic resolution scaling should be able to ensure smooth performance. If that means lowering the resolution, so be it. None will fault that, instead they will applaud it.

Nice looking short demo.
I love the art design.
HDR seems better than previous games.

today there was an update of RE7 on Xbox (series x at least) does anyone knows about it?
Is there an update on PS5 too?
I haven’t launched the game.
Maybe it is related to RE8.

I haven't started the demo. Is it a once only demo or can I replay this? I dont want to ruin the experience by rushing. I didn't play REmake 2 because it was a one off demo. Loved RE2

On pc. On console RE engine give some trouble at 60 fps with higher resolution. Can't imagine with raytracing what could happen.
Monster Hunter Rise on PC? It's switch exclusive for now. I think RE is gr8 engine. DMC RE2R RE3R are all pretty games that target 60 FPS. Show mi other games with such a visuals and 60 FPS. Maybe Frostbite engine comes close. MHR is best looking game on switch and Re8 looks dope too.

Really? I thought the left & right wing of the Police Station was more intense.
I actually eyerolled again when the body bag drop on the floor for the jump scare because it was just as effective as the babydoll in the shack house in RE7

So much concern by the analysts over a few drops in a raytraced game, whilst a non raytraced game gets a pass falling to the low 40's. Village is a gorgeous game with style. Hitman has awful looking characters and animations. I'd say this is quite impressive and I expect improved visuals and framerate on the next gen consoles on release.

but native 4k is a waste of resources.

I agree with this, for the most part. It makes me wish these consoles had DLSS (or an equivilant). When the next round launch with DLSS 3.0/4.0 (or whatever equivilant we reach in 7 years) native resolution won't be a concern anymore. Those consoles will probably be able to take a 6K image, DLSS it up to 8k and use that extra headroom for a bunch of other things that make the games truly shine.

Wonder if this is something a mid-gen refresh could introduce? Probably not?

You seem really bothered by the Hitman 3 analysis
