Only a few days ago, the directors of Codemasters approved the proposed takeover by Electronic Arts. Today, this buyout amounting to $ 1.2 billion is now recorded, which means that the developer specializing in racing games is now a full-fledged studio of the American giant.
An opportunity that the publisher did not fail to seize to tell us about the future of its new acquisition.

It is through its quarterly financial report in which Electronic Arts shares a particularly high turnover (a figure amounting to 1.38 billion euros for 173 million euros in net profit) that the American publisher discusses the future of Codemasters, the developer to whom we owe in particular DiRT 5, DiRT Rally 2.0, GRID or even F1 2020.
And not surprisingly, with this new takeover, EA intends to become the "world leader in racing entertainment "in particular by offering motorized experiences on an annual basis.
To do this, the publisher holding flagship licenses such as Need For Speed and Burnout, specifies that the British developer will be able to benefit from its teams, but also from its various technologies.
Electronic Arts also specifies that the objective with this new collaboration is to reach a wider audience.

How come project cars is on that graphic? I thought they were slightly Mad Studios and backed by Konami. Did EA buy them as well?

I would like onRush 2.0, but than again I can see it being riddle with fucking microtransaction, because there are already those boxes, loot boxes, which opened up fuck all but still.

Will they spend a lot of money on Turn 10, Polyphony, Kunos and iRacing and merge then all in one?

Which game was it that angry Joe played and it was so bad there were paid cards that you had to have to have a chance of winning?

I'm kind of confused by the acquisition TBH. I mean I can see that EA's stable of racing game is pretty shite. Like, NFS has been a fucking turdfest for like 20 years at this point. But, while codemasters makes some great game they don't really sell that well, lol. And I don't see how EA's involvement would change that.

Ooof look I love Turn 10 too but y'all have short memories.

Forza 7 was also supposed to be built around microtransactions (combined with VIP Pass becoming worthless), but the outrage (and likely slow sales) led to Turn 10 changing their original plans. I'm pretty sure they'll be trying again in their future games, who knows, maybe next time people won't complain that much.

Project Cars could become an AAA franchise with EA backing them. They can easily compete with GT and Forza in their off years.

F1 and WRC are great yearly gets for them.

Dirt and Grid could alternate between the NFS titles which are getting stale. The motorstorm team can easily take over the Burnout series.

This has the potential of being a fuck up, but EA isnt really as bad as everyone makes them out to be. Lets not forget that they gave Bioware 7 years to make Anthem, five years to make Andromeda, and gave Respawn 5.5 years to make Star Wars Jedi Order. Yes, the cancelled Amy's game but they gave her three full years and she had nothing to show.

I think their only issue is that they do not delay games beyond a certain point unlike say Sony or Microsoft who will delay games for a year. But I remember EA delaying both Anthem and Andromeda for months and they still came out bad. At that point, the fault lies with the developer for not prioritizing bugs and fixes over new features.

P.S The Battlefront 2 fiasco was also apparently a DICE thing if reports are to be believed. EA never mandated the loot boxes in games like Titanfall and Battlefield 1 just a year before that. If anything, the microtransactions in BF1 were far better than cod at the time.

They have the IP's to do it in Dirt and Need For Speed. It remains to be seen if they will actually do anything great with those franchises but I highly doubt it. The last great Need For Speed was Most Wanted back at the beginning of the 360/PS3 days. Heck for some people the last great Need For Speed was Underground and I played that on the Gamecube.

What I really want is for Rockstar to get off their asses and give us a brand new Midnight Club but that's probably a pipe dream.

You sure about that? Didn't NFS payback come out at the same time? It sure seems like an EA mandate given those two totally different games had almost the exact same progression system

Car upgrades were tied to random "speedcards" you get for winning races, these cards were simply stat boosts, but sometimes you'd get less stats. You could of course buy more speedcards.

They did make a change after that battlefront fiasco where the game constantly is giving you speedcards making it less grindy, and made it so more often than not you get cards that give you better stats than your current stats, but still, there was no traditional upgrade system.

Sure whatever they say. The real leaders are Sony and Microsoft with their racing sims and Microsoft with the arcade version of Forza, EA hasn’t made a good racing game since NFS Underground 2.
