Gotham Knights revealed by WB

Sorry, need to have a rant about this game. According to Wikipedia:

"Players can level up their characters, but enemies will be automatically leveled up as well."

Seriously, what's the point of putting in levelling systems if the enemies level up to keep step with you? It's utterly pointless and also annoying as hell. This nonsense spoiled Assassin's Creed Odyssey for me. Ugh.

I much prefer the need to level up in order to more effectively handle enemies in a new zone, etc. It makes the player feel as though they are progressing. Of course, one could choose to also take on the enemies earlier, for the extra challenge. Hopefully this level scaling crap can be turned off.

How else will they sell time savers? How else can they have a loot based economy without bullet spongy enemies? And without massive amounts of loot how can they sell cosmetics? You dont need to be a rocket scientist to see where this is going.

At first I looks "meh" to me. But after each rewatch it looks better.

Was not a fan of the "RPG" element but realize I don't know why.

Now I see that there is at least 4 characters to play around with several outfits for each. Good enough for a superhero game for me.

The season pass for Arkham Knight was already sketchy as hell, so no surprise to see where they've taken this. IMO some of this late current gen & stuff shown for early next gen is so obviously geared towards the GaaS/DLC/Loot model it's not even funny anymore. I just get the mental image of a bunch of corporate suits in an office discussing how to best extract dollars from players via any means possible.

It's slightly off-putting knowing the design choices are born out of greed, basically, and not what's best for the player.

You see Batmans name in the title? No? Then shut the fuck up. xD
Pretty much this, don't get me wrong I'd have loved a next gen full fat batman game but I can't really get mad at this when its not even called a batman game. It is what it is.

Biggest let down for me is that gotham knights and suicide squad appear to be the exact same style of game.

Looked really rough and frame rate was tanking all over the place.
Also concerned about how weak and lacking impact the combat looks.
When you have a zoomed out camera it makes much more sense to have a muscle-bound character that hits hard like Batman.

Ngl, between the GaaS-style structure in this (and why tf would they ruin the combat in Batman games???) and the fact that Suicide Squad is full GaaS and EVIL SUPERMAN!!!! again (oooh, aaah, stunning and brave and original), any and all hype I had was killed dead yesterday. lol

Also tired of WB Games still refusing to get out of Batman's orbit. Where's my Flash game? Green Lantern? Wonder Woman? Superman, but -gasp- NOT Evil? 😯

Hell, at this point gimme a Booster Gold game, fam, just remember you have a universe that doesn't need to involve Batman or his satellite characters.

A franchise that should be about stealth action is now an action rpg. Let that sink in.

What the fuck.

Co-op demands more action. Stealth fits pure single player more.
I don't know, some of the most fun I've had in the later Splinter Cell games came out of the coop modes. Coordinated takedowns are a lot more tense and fun than coordinated beatdowns, IMO.

I'd also love to see that kind of gameplay interacting with an Asylum-style fear AI in the enemies. Make these sidekicks weak to bullets and force people to work together (or be very clever with their gadgets) to get the henchmen soiling themselves to make moving in for the kill possible. With well-designed systems and well-written AI it could be a lot more compelling than mash buttons and dodge to build up your super, but that's just me.

At least the new movie trailer looks interesting.

All of this. This game is going to be mtx filled, live service bullshit, and we’d all better get used to the fact. I sure as shit won’t be buying it, and if you don’t want more and more games like this and Avengers, I’d suggest you don’t buy it either.

It looked fun and I'm glad I can play solo. But does anyone actually think Batman is dead..? I bet he comes back in the last third of the story. I don't believe the first Batman game this gen doesn't have Batman.

Combat, co-op, playing alone, level gating, and more questions answered.

Will combat feel like the Arkham games? Is this a familiar beat 'em up combat system?
Patrick Redding: "We have gone through and iterated on control schemes quite a bit over the course of the whole project, but it'll be comfortable to people who are familiar with third-person brawler type experiences."

"The way you're accessing some of your special moves and things like that can vary I'm sure, but in terms of having both attack and defensive choices, having a range of combo choices, having variations in strike types and attack types, being able to combo in your ranged attacks as well as your melee attacks - all of that is there, and I think will be comfortable for people who have played modern, contemporary third-person action-adventure style brawlers."

What does co-op offer above single player? Can two players play co-op with the same character?
Patrick Redding: "Because the characters are so distinct from each other, there's a bit of asymmetry, a bit of the complimentary skill set and ability set that actually makes teaming up kind of awesome if you happen to have different characters.

"Now, if you happen to have two Batgirls, you can also do that. Obviously, the potential of having different Batgirl builds, and how they look different and play differently is really cool too."

From the video it didn’t look like they incorporated free-flow combat. If they’re doing the whole level thing, it would be difficult to implement it. It looks like they want you to grind....

I like this is not a GaaS. That’s some good news. And also this:
Was this always a non-Arkham game?

Patrick Redding: "Yes, 100%
So many people were insisting this was an Arkham game. There’s some inspiration but it’s quite different also.

Yeah they were very upfront that SS is in the Arkham verse and that this isn't

I wish Batman was one of the playable characters. It has been 6 years since Arkham Knight was released.

It's just to give you the illusion of progress while trying to sell you stuff through mtx to "get an edge" over the enemies who level up same as you.

What happened to this game? Heard nothing since the reveal and it seemed like an interesting concept.

2022 delay on the cards?

Don't worry, after this flops you'll get your single player batman game.
There is NO SHOT of Batman not being in this game as a playable character. They didn't show him, but I guarantee he's unlockable or comes up part way through the main story when his death ends up being BS (like it always is in any Batman story with him dying).
