"I wrote Episode 1 and 2, and what was great is they let me come in [and] introduce a character like that to our post-modern world. And I did it very much like The Third Man meets Three Days in the Condor. You're introduced to a guy who's very much the hitman we know from the games, but he's got a full head of hair, and he's independent. He has a handler, he's got a life, he's very much that early '80s, late '70s assassin we read about in the books, right? But at a certain point, he gets a gig, and that gig unveils the reality that no choice he's ever made has been his own. And of course, the show ends with him at a mirror, finding hidden under his skin, the barcode. So suddenly it becomes a mystery of 'who am I, really?' [Jason] Bourne did that excellently. This is more of, 'what is true in regards to the people in my life? What has been manufactured, what are thoughts, etc.' It's the nature versus nurture of it all," said Kolstad.

"To your point, we get into the head of the character. In the games, there's not much of a character there. But who is this guy really, and why do you root for him? And so we got to give a moral compass. It's a tough sell, even with The Continental and John Wick, man. So your main character is a hitman. Why do I give a shit? And so we have to come in and hard-sell [that] it's a Western, man. Who do you root for? You root for the gray hat. He's the ultimate gray hat."

This is ruined before it is even finished. They really have no idea about what Hitman makes Hitman, do they?

My favorite franchise will yet again get a bad rep cause of some film/serie producers.

It's impossible to make something good out of these games. The whole point is being creative while not getting caught.

What I don't get is what the games are about literally makes it awful for a TV show. Hitman is about the sandbox, player agency, being creative and doing dumb stuff.

So what exactly would you want the TV show to be about? I think the whole idea is pointless.

I get it, they want the barcode as a reveal in the last episode. Sexes up the season finale and will make people turn in to see what happens next. Helps if the writer doesn't talk about it in interviews miles before the episodes hit, but I guess him having hair will be an elephant in the room the second they launch a trailer.

In a universe where these games hadn't existed for 20 years, that'd work wonders. But gamers are pissed because it's not what they expected, non-gamers are two seconds away from looking it up. There's no multimedia thinking about this at all, which doesn't bode particularly well for a show based on a video game. It's like Negan's famous first kill in The Walking Dead - why leave it for a year if you can find out who he killed without even leaving your chair once the episode is finished?

This is a problem with a lot of adaptations, and it doesn't bode well for the end result.

The looks of the protagonist is the sole and only reason I never bothered with this series. Such an offputting look for me for some reason. And i feel it isn't really about him being bald perse, just the whole mannequin look with that 2000esque barcode + face structure stereotype thing or something. Hard to explain....

Same goes for Kratos and his tribal tattoos..

Btw, not hating on both games.. <3

Well if the source material doesn't translate well into becoming a tv series or a movie, then just leave it alone. Personally I still think it could work with a lot of focus on target identification and preparation and making sure everything works like clockwork. And with less in-your-face disguises people would normally see through. Overall it could be kinda like the tv show Leverage but with a darker tone, some main story arc (like going against Providence) and without a whole bunch of characters (47 & Diana / Olivia as backup would be enough).

Oh and Hitman wasn't always about huge sandboxes. I recently replayed Absolution and the game was still very enjoyable despite having a lot of more linear levels.

Also who gives a shit what some adaptation is doing? Best part about about the Hitman games is the gameplay and the recent Hitman games have been amazing, imo.

Far Cry 5 was a game made entirely to make fun of Trump and his supporters.
Battlefield V is dishonoring true veterans who died on the Battlefield because they wanted to replace them with black and women. The mission in Norway where freedom fighters destroyed the Nazis nuclear facility, were portrayed by a Woman and her daughter. Thats utterly disrepectful.
Bond being a black woman.

Imagine Shaft being white in the new movie. We would have another BLM movement again.

I've never really played any of the Hitman games but even I recognize him from his smooth bald head and barcode tattoo immediately.

I always think it's weird that nobody is wary of the fact their butler has a shaved head with tattoos on it, I mean he should be a bit more inconspicuous.

Buddy, Kratos does not have tribal tattoos neither from looks nor story. From story perspective they represent birthmarks his brother had.

Timothy Olyphant was good as 47, but the best audition tape I've ever seen for 47 was Joel Kinnaman in The Killing in the early episodes when he manipulates two girls into giving up a secret party location.

He completely switches demeanor on a dime and, for me, that's who 47 should be on screen. Someone who acts completely different depending on the setting, who they're talking to and how he's disguised.

The games try and walk a fine line between realism and suspension of disbelief, but lean heavily towards the silly nonsensical absurdity of the whole situation.
