Politics Forum....?

I assume somebody made a not-so-thinly veiled threat or something and EviLore pulled the ripcord. Or maybe the mods just got tired of the bullshit.

It's not remotely clear how politics would be kept off the site anyway. Even gaming threads inevitably run into quite a lot of it--and that's not on the users, that's due to the landscape of gaming being heavily politicized right now, coming from the publishers and developers themselves. So what is "political discussion" in that case... just responding to the overtly politicized aspects of games? We have to pretend not to see it and only comment on raytracing now?

You'll survive. Or you won't. Either way.

The point is that there isn't any definable barrier between Off-Topic and politics or between Gaming and politics. So it will become a weirdly paranoid and jacketed forum where we're discussing things which clearly have political components, but carefully circumscribing and monitoring all our statements to avoid the looming threat of a sudden ban.

I like the change. I've grown tired of politics, it's becoming increasingly toxic to the point of not being fun anymore. I pretty much gave up on posting there because I felt like the same 2-3 posters were going to just constantly disagree with me using talking points or "lol ur dumb" posts and weren't really interested in having a discussion.

I can definitely draw a line between politics and gaming. I believe in you.

I was confused. I thought I was personally banned from viewing the section, but that the messaging was made to seem like it applied to everyone to avoid upset.
I immediately looked to see if anyone else noticed.
I am sure they have their reasons for the removal. The last thing we want the site to become is a political war-room.
There is plenty of other things we can share our thoughts on, that don't relate to political climates.

I will respect the decision.

Pretty sure you are still allowed to discuss politics as contained within the game, and limited to what the game is about. Just no stupid comparisons to any kind of ideology or politicians you personally disagree with.

Take Disco Elysium: it's a political game. You can discuss your choices and beliefs for your game choices without calling people communist scum or a Trump fart.

Is that about right mod team?

It’s easy:

understand the difference between a fact and your political opinion, and only post the first not the latter.

Political opinions are like assholes, every has one and they all smell shitty to the next person.

So be considerate of your fellow poster and share the things that embrace and unify us instead of divide us.

In the end, this forum was started as a gaming forum. That's the identity of the site. You can discuss politics somewhere else.
Yes, and there is a case to be made that the Gaming forum should be the focus of the site, which might work fine for rebranding the place and getting it back on track.

However, discussing gaming today will inevitably run into all kinds of political discussions--after all, the major companies involved in gaming are actively engaged in political angles and continue to prioritize those in PR. It would be great if gaming itself kicked politics out and no one put up with the latest ideological fads driving what appears in our entertainment, but that's not the reality we live in.

My guess is that politics inevitably brings a lot of conspiracy stuff in the picture. It is basically impossible to touch politics without conspiracy theories being brought up. And those were already a no-go since the beginning of the year. And a lot of people left, because they (understandably) saw not being allowed to talk about those things as censorship.

It was a source of major friction and drama within the community. It was attracting the wrong type of people to GAF, and pushing away the right type of people. It was a nightmare to moderate. It was frequently an embarrassment to be associated with.

It's gone.
