My sound system is complete

Good to hear. Did you need any extra juice to get the g6 loud enough? There’s a spdif adapter that’s working for me to output optical on ps5 into double amp where I can swap between tempest or vss as well. I’m liking it. Now, I’m trying to find a powerful enough amp to power my 5xx. How were the sundaras amped with the g6? After the Penrose didn’t work out for me i really wanted to go for a planar vss system but they are hard to drive to fullest potential. I’m currently double amped with the X2hr and they sound great. The 5xx is going to have to sound as good or better for me to switch. But the 5xx are lightweight and really comfortable so I’m hoping they do.

Oh thank you, and the Sundara's sound something like heaven, Like all the music I have been listening to has so much different details compared to my previous audio solution, so I think that should tell that the G6 was able to run the Sundara's I did had to turn the knob more than 50 o clock, where the light on the g6 was relatively bright to get a comfortable volume but other than the build quality of the Sundara, it sounded amazing.

Are the 5xx that power hungry, oh wow. Btw, I don't know X2hr, I'm gonna look it up when I have a little bit of time later in the day, and your solution for 3d audio with optical seems interesting.

not so power hungry to drive, but to drive fully. The soundstage doesn’t open enough without extra juice. Mixamp isn’t enough to power them fully so I’m trying other amps.
X2hr are headphones that take a Vmoda mic and are very good all around for gaming.
This is the adapter that can output optical from usb on ps5. You can then use tempest or vss from your mixamp or other vss solution.

Remember, it’s not just about volume. It’s about quality. There’s a chance you are not getting the full benefits of planar with that amp and may need to double amp. Something to consider. It’s definitely made a difference with the 5xx and so far the amps I have tried are underpowered. The ohm rating on planar are not accurate when compared to standard drivers.

So I ended up buying this because I absolutely have to have dual audio. But the sound coming from PS5 is just not loud enough. Anyone else have the same experience with other headsets?

Sorry if this is asked already (for some reason I feel like I already asked this lol)

Hmm, so you are saying that the ps5 was able to recognize that adapter on the adapter when you use optical output you still get Tempest audio? wth.. Ah man, now I'm thinking I should return my g6 to get a better amp because I thought g6 was the only solution for outputting tempest but apparently this adapter can get sound..

What should I do? should I get an amp instead that comes out of the optical out of the g6 or should I completely return the amp/dac, because I really don't have any past experience with audio products.

it’s a known issue with PS5 output through USB. Especially with legacy products that required optical. If your tv has optical out you can use that and use the headsets vss from the base station. It may be possible to use the adapter I linked above as well to try tempest if your headset allows stereo pass through but I don’t know because I don’t have that headset system.

you’ll still need an amp. I would try it and feed it into the g6. It may allow the g6 to output more power to your sundara.

Well, yes, the G6 does have an amp built into the device. I thought you wanted me to get another amp with the g6 so I can fully drive the headphone, btw do you think I will need a better dac than a g6?
The reason the g6 may not power the sundara enough, if they don’t, would be because you’re connecting it to the ps5 over usb. This weakens it’s output. If you bypass it’s need to use the ps5 usb and output optical using that adapter the g6 is free to amp only.

Ahh shit, I don't think Xbox Series X supports this... I'm stuck plugging my headphones into a controller like a god damn animal.

xbox licenses their usb so only headsets that have the chip ineither the cable or the usb wireless adapters work. Both companies screwed thinks up by removing optical support and no companies were ready with solutions. That’s why the arctis 7 is going for so much. It’s basically a more comfortable 3d pulse (which is also going for $200+) with less features on PS.

Nah, not using headphones on consoles. Using HD 800 on PC with Sound Blaster AE-9.

For the 4K+ price I assume HD 820+ HDV 820 has top sound quality. :p
Because it’s so beneath you to use headphones on a console. So instead you suggest a $5,000 system for PS5 when you’re running a $1,700 system on PC. Oh boy.

Not beneath me, for now I just use TV soundbars for console gaming and not feeling like unplugging the HD800 headphones each time I switch between PC and consoles.

hey, sorry this information I gave you wasn’t accurate. I was thinking the arctis pro wireless not 9. 9 doesn’t have optical. My bad. Not sure how you can get better volume with that.

Btw, good luck finding an amp for your headphone, because I can see the struggle, it is definitely hard finding an amp. With the specific requirements for your need

I’m currently running this. But I’m using a dac with optical out to go out to mixamp. I ordered One after I was able to get a spdif compatible sound card I had working. Gives you tempest or mixamp vss whenever you want to switch. Great so far.
I have an XsX and optical has now gone. And I don’t think that USB dacs work ...

So that was why I was thinking that It would be

XsX to mix amp, then mixamp to dac, dac to headphones.

Anyone else wanna chime in ?

Did Astro update the mixamps to allow usb sound from xbox? Yours would be dac to dac. You’d be better off just amping the mixamp. So, usb to mixamp and then amp whatever comes out of the mixamp. If you wanted to pass through or use the mixamp Dolby processing depending on the game.

otherwise, On x you would need an hdmi optical stripper from Astro Or similar but they’re only going to be hdmi 2.0
Unless your tv has optical out there is no way to keep 2.1 and have optical on x.

Yeah the mixamps now have been updated.

So I would need a dac and a cable to amp up what comes out of the mixamp? Sorry for the stupid questions.

Also, any ideas on a good dac?

If the mixamp has been updated to connect to the x usb and is outputting audio then it’s now acting as a dac. So you want to amp that. between the headphone out port and the headphones.

OK. I should have wrote amp instead of dac.. Sorry dude.

Any ideas for an amp? lol

is the mixamp too low? Is that why you’re needing to amp? Because the mixamps weren’t made to output all audio from usb. That’s the issue. So, go in line with an amp so you can still split your mic and just boost the audio end. You can either get the most powerful portable amp you can find so if you want somewhat of “wireless” solution you can use it between the controller output and the headphones as well as with the mixamp. You’ll still be wired to the controller but not tethered to the mixamp if you want versatility. But you’ll need to charge the portable every 15-20 hours depending on which model you get. Portable amps are kind of hard to find now since they’ve been replaced with portable dac/amps that can act as analog amps. If the headphones Youreusing Don’t require much juice any $50 and up portable should work fine.

I bought the steelseries pro wireless

It’s fine. But feels low on volume
Yeah. You need to do the optical workaround if your tv has optical out. No tempest if you use your tv. With a usb to spdif and you can use tempest or arctis vss

so I bought that USB to optical adapter for my G6, I connected it to my PS5 and my G6 is also connected to the Ps5, when I select the adapter I'm not getting any audio but I do when I select the G6. G6 is connected to the adapter through an optical cable. what am I missing? I felt like I wasn't getting enough power to my DT700 250ohms

You have both connected by usb? It should only be the usb to optical adapter connected by usb. Then optical to the g6

Sorry I’ll reply again to clarify. It should be
-Usb to optical
-optical to g6
-headphones into g6

ps5 settings pick the usb to optical adapter as audio. You can choose tempest on and then turn off g6vss or tempest off and use g6 vss

Oh, I thought the g6 needed the USB to power it, thx will try it later

yup definetly sounds louder. I don’t notice much difference between tempest or SBX, Nowim think of connecting the g6 to my, Would the SBX sound the same if i connected the G6 to my TV via optical?

Ok, cool. The difference between the tempest and vss from your amp will depend on the game.

Sorry, I didn’t see that part about tv optical. Yeah if you had tv optical you don’t need the usb to spdif but you don’t ha e the tempest option. If you don’t hear a difference then yeah, just hook it up to tv optical and get rid of a wire. Also, either way gives you access to Chatmix if your amp allows it which is a nice benefit.

I am presently using Bose QC35’s wired to my PS5 controller. Will I get a better 3D audio experience if I picked up the Arctis 7P?

AKA Are gaming headsets better for gaming audio?

Doubt it would make a difference. The console does the 3D mix. The better the headphones the better the overall experience.

These aren't even hard to drive or remotely difficult for that matter, but if it can't drive these, hard pass.
