Bah. It's made by Bethesda and is single player. That's enough.
It's almost as big deal as GTA 6. I would buy that game without watching any trailer. In fact I would actively avoid them.

But IGN being involved in an astroturfing campaign?
Is this any different from the other day when there was a sudden influx of pro-PS fluff pieces, which gave us nothing but fuzzy warm feelings inside?

I remember Microsoft saying it would honour contracts made pre-acquisition. For that same reason Psychonauts 2 will be multiplatform, despite Double Fine being a Microsoft studio now.
That said, Starfield could be a bit too big and tempting for Microsoft to nonchalantly keep their original stance.

Someone in his position can't possibly be so dense as to not realize that saying something like that without first making it clear it's "just a prediction" would whip something up quickly. Bethesda made Brink, they are making Deathloop and Ghostwire. Not everything they touch has to be all hype without seeing anything. This is just generating interest for a game nobody really knows about but Im sure everyone is hyped now that there is this drama around a name they keep hearing.

Bethesda (the publisher) and Bethesda (the dev studio) are separate entities.
Bethesda studios are on a roll since the Morrowind days. Oblivion was an event, Fallout 3 was an event, Skyrim was an event, Fallout 4 was successful (albeit less of an event, admittedly) and Fallout 76 is still successfull despite the initial disaster.
The point is that they are the most succesfull western rpg-studio in history, so yeah, you can bet Starfield will be an event as well.
