[IGN] Xbox Isn't The Only One Rethinking Console Exclusives

Wishful thinking at best for some. MS have hit rock bottom and are the only ones putting their exclusives on a major competitors console.

Playstation could put all their exclusive games on xbox and I doubt even one person would jump ship to xbox.

The playstation 4 and xbox one console decided who stays where and playstation fans have far too many games bought digitally and physically and got for free each month to move.

All in my opinion anyway.

If playstation games go in xbox a year or two later and the same thing the other way, numbers stay the same but each company earns more money.

I'm going to be perfectly honest here, so call me a "fanboy" or whatever, but I think part of the reason the industry is in this state of malfunction is because of the lack of consistent exclusives on consoles. No more putting them on PC or sharing them with other bases. Brand used to mean something in the console arena.

If you wanted to play Blue Dragon back in the day, you had to buy an Xbox. I used to think Phil was trying to build up the Xbox brand, but now we know his only concern is the Microsoft brand. Deep down I think most people would love to see every game available on every system, but just like socialism, which sounds great on paper, the lack of real exclusives ends up meaning less desire for these video game brands in the end.
No it's because we aren't getting an increase in new net consumers to the industry. Gen Z is not huge on consoles like Gen X and Millennials were. Gen A dont care about consoles almost at all compared to Gen Z.

This means the Gen X and Millennial generations are propping up the console Industry and and those consumers will eventually age out naturally out of the industry. This is a big problem because it means the only growth we have is by ever increasing profit per customer. Hence why the cost of games and the rate of MTX continually goes up for most games. Last time the industry grew significantly was the 360 era.

I really don’t think Sony is going to release pc day one anytime time soon, if ever, especially if they have to pay 30% to steam and pay for denuvo, as no way they will allow day one piracy. 6 months later is the best pc gamers can hope for.
The only problem with this post is that Sony has never used Denuvo on any of their PC titles, they often get 80% instead of 70% due to reaching its milestone, and they also literally just saw how much more successful a game can be when launching day one alongside a console.

Xbox is pretty much dead in the water at this point. Too many anti gamer decisions from the top and too much cock sucking support from the vocal minority. (yes the masses hear you, they are listening.)

So impregnable "walled gardens" is the only way this console business can survive?
That's how they STARTED.
Consoles started with hardware that run retrofitted arcade games. You can argue that it makes it not exclusive, but the pay to play nature of the arcade makes it segregated. And hardware between consoles are so different that often even if the game's title is the same, the gameplay can vary in quality between ports.

Basically you play the console with the games you want. Always had been.

The ability to have the SAME game run on different consoles, is only possible after Xbox came out. That's when PS2 and Xbox start to share 3rd party games.

In any case, the 30% profit sharing is the entire point of being a platform developer. If you think that is not important, you don't get to have a platform. Xbox fought against the one thing that makes them profitable and thus they failed as a platform. You make great exclusives so people buy your hardware, and then you make money from the 3rd party software. That is the entire business.

That buisness model still fucking works. Perpetual greed and unsustainable growth, is only the reason its being called into question.

If you give consumers a reason to continuely buy into your ecosystem, they will. Nintendo is the perfect example of this. They make massive profits with that model.

Man, Xbox influencers are working overtime to protect Microsoft.

Last year, they were celebrating exclusives and now it's "Sony is doing it too!" even though they never changed their strategy like Microsoft.

Few are tougher on MS than I, but Sony’s PC openness is a huge change is strategy, which was never a big deal for Microsoft, given, you know… Microsoft Windows. For Sony? It was a huge.

No imagine Microsoft allows others stores in the Xbox just like they do on Windows: Sony games on Xbox via Steam.

Wild times for gaming.

I don’t think not releasing games on PC is an issue. I think Microsoft shouldn’t have done day and date with PC and should have gone the Sony route so it gives the incentive of playing games earlier on console than PC. But it’s the growth that’s the concern. Console only sell a certain amount of units and 100 million is great. But with PC have the opportunity to go over that and get a broader reach of sales. More Sales means more games.

Is this a real quote from IGN? Not only is this a fucking stupid analogy, but modern Nintendo is a lot more controlling of their IP than they were 30 or so years ago. Back then you had those Zelda CD-i games, educational Mario games on PC, random ass Mario movie, etc. Right now everything goes through Nintendo's strict control in a very calculated manner.

This is cope that even I wasn't expecting from Destin Lingerie, god damn.
How original. I remember that term being used to describe astroturf. Do you think that's what we have here, astroturf? You know, Xbox's bread and butter?
You're wasting your time lol.

I just checked it's real. I can't remember when any shill on any side ever said anything more embarrassing than this.

This narrative started almost instantly, after the twitter xbros recorded themselves taking back their consoles, having a little cry, and finally accepting MS was going ahead with releasing games on PS. They're trying so hard to push a narrative that is pure fabrication. #Sonytoo

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
The lack of Exclusives is actually the problem they are facing and the fact they are ignoring this and continue pushing in the opposite direction doesn't bode well.
Sure PS5 has sold well on a promise, a expectation, and it does have exclusives that was primed before the launch of the PS5.
but we are getting into what they have been working on for the past 4 years and it's nothing outside of their porting efforts to PC.
But come PS6 if they continue down the road they are on expect to see the fruits of their labour.
