The sad state of PC gaming(according to Tech Of Tomorrow)

He starts on about gpu's then goes off on a tangent about pc games being incomplete upon release and while he does make a valid point about the games, we can pretty much apply what he's trying to say about console games aswell as pc across the board it's a problem with the gaming industry as a whole not just exclusive to pc gaming, you could also argue that there's a shortage of next gen consoles aswell everyone's in the same boat it's seems .

Who is this guy, and why should I listen to him?

Got halfway through the video and had to quit. Video is a low-quality rant. "Negative Nancy," "Debbie Downer".... pick your term for this guy. Doom and gloom with no real substance.

I am as frustrated as the next person about the GPU situation, but other than that, I think that PC gaming is in the best state it has ever been.

0/10, would not watch again.

One thing that I agree with is that the supply constraints might actually push people toward streaming services. I wonder if they will stay there when parts become available again.

I do not want to dismiss his other points because they are valid but I do not believe he is giving the GPU manufactures enough credit. They did not purposely create this issue (even though there are those that believe they did). They even lowered cost to performance this generation. I mean, pandemic supply constraints, people not only being home but given stimulus checks to spend and of course bitcoin skyrocketing are draining what supply hits the market. It sucks but not the end of the world and it will get better eventually.

One other point about supply constraints. We used to have to get off of our lazy asses and go to the store to buy our parts. Now, we can purchase them at the click of a button which means everyone is competing in each market all at once. You can no longer rely on that local store to hold you one back from their inventory or let you know when they will be arriving.

As for the games. Yes, but the consoles are experiencing the exact same issues when it comes to day one patches. As for the rehashed titles being released. It is our fault. It is what we are buying. Publishers go where the money is and that is where we are spending most of it. I also want to point out that Microsoft has not only focused efforts back in the PC market by releasing all first party console games on PC too and including it with Game Pass. I am thrilled they noticed PC gamers again.

You saying back in the day for a 980ti hurts. That's still the card I'm using.

The thing about these arguments is everybody's right. Ports are better than ever generally. We are getting some traditional console games on pc. There is still a lot of hassle and jank you have to accept by playing on pc.

PC is the best place to be. I can't under or over state that.

I like the channel and have subbed for years but can't have the same mindset. Nor can I revisit some place which feels like just a rant more than something that speaks to the reality of things on PC.

It's as good as ever with some great new tech and backend things happening now that hasn't been this exciting since the early days of 3D from the PlayStation/Saturn days.

Other than the pandemic causing the growth by finding parts easily, I'm very happy to see how far we've come since 2005~.

OP hates PC platform, so this kinda stuff is not uncommon.

But completely agree. You can't just blame PC side of things, when you can't buy a next gen console. Electronics in general are highest in demand, and lowest in supply than ever. Not PC fault.

How about the sad state of hardware supply?

Including PS5s and Xboxes?

The hardware supply issue (GPUs specifically) is literally the only issue plaguing PC gaming at the moment and that is just temporary.

Not a chance.

I'll lower my graphics settings over latency issues/compression anyday.

Not only that, it's a pretty stupid notion considering that fact that if everyone were to pile in to streaming services the servers wouldn't be able to cope. And then guess what would happen when the companies running said servers want to buy more hardware to meet the demand? That's right, they would run into exactly the same hardware supply issues that everyone else is facing.

Has OP been sharing low effort rant videos for longer too?

OP been playing on PC longer than you.
Very hard to believe. You're one of the biggest anti PC trolls on this site lol. You hate everything PC related. Just look at your history at any given page. Fucking lol.

My thoughts exactly. But it seems most people in this thread at least have sense and disagree with the video. Low effort, backfired thread.

Anti PC? nahh
Like Consoles more? yeahhh
You mad? yeahhh

We can tell most replying haven't actually watched the video from the posts.
TOT is a Pro PC channel.

I don't even have a YouTube channel to talk about PC gaming, but doing a few seconds of Google searches, you can find that:

(1) Steam alone has over 50,000 games listed in its store, across every possible genre imaginable
(2) Again, back to Steam, it has around 120 million monthly active users
(3) Game Pass on PC provides over 100 games. There are also talks about Game Pass going to Steam
(4) A newly created PlayStation studios page hints at PlayStation titles coming to PC
(5) RetroArch has blown up the (already vibrant) retro/emulation scene, with cores for practically every "retro" console one can think of

Those 5 items took a cumulative 60 seconds of Google searching.

And yet, according to some... "The Sad State of PC Gaming is Getting Worse." Clowns.

I’ve quit pc gaming and am 100% xsx/ps5. Usually happens when new consoles come out. I go back eventually but with no sign of me getting a 3080 then fuck it.

I think everyone on this forum can easily acknowledge that the GPU issue is real. A perfect storm of shit -- a global pandemic, a shortage of materials, the rise of ether (best mined by GPUs) as the second most viable cryptocurrency after Bitcoin, and probably other factors -- has led to the current GPU situation.

Is it going to remain like that forever? I don't know, I'm not an expert. But if I had to guess, likely not. Just going by historical precedent, where most shortages (especially in the realm of electronics) were eventually addressed. Anyone remember the early days of the Wii? Was practically impossible to get one if you got caught looking for one at the time of highest demand...

People who think Streaming solves the problem, are buying into the hype into thinking Streaming runs on Magic. Streaming is just a remote computer. So as you said, if you can't get the hardware to play your game, the streaming company can't either.

Pc gaming is better than ever
In terms of offering of quality games, variety, services, etc? Yes.
In terms of availability of hardware at reasonable prices it became a fucking nightmare.
I've tried to preorder a RTX 3080 since the very day they were announced and as a result I only managed to get two preorders unceremoniously cancelled four months later, after several delays.

At this point I basically gave up to buying a new GPU for all the current year.

I've been able to secure several PS5s for myself some family and friends, and also a couple of Xbox Series X, but I've been trying since release and I still can't get a 3060ti.

PC gaming if you already have good/decent hardware is in a great state. If you are fresh to the game trying to jump in, it's in a really shitty state. I can hold off getting a new GPU until stock normalizes because my 1080ti has been such a heavy weight hitter for YEARS...And I've been trying to get a new GPU for at least the last 5 or 6 mos. I'm not too bothered because I can still play optimally for the most part. But if I was freshly trying to jump into PC gaming and I didn't want to pay the pre-built premium, I'd be pissed. It's fucking terrible what crypto has done for the general PC gamer market.

So it's both in a great state and terrible one at the same time. There's never been a better time to be a PC gamer.....As long as you already have the hardware.

I agree with him about GPU supply. It’s horrendous. I’ve been trying to get a 3080 for a while now and it’s impossible to get at MSRP prices and I refuse to pay scalpers. Other than that PC gaming is better than it’s ever been. Yea we get a lot of shitty unfinished games but that’s just the industry in general. I try to avoid the unfinished games as much as possible.

Good summary.

That's exactly the case: as long as you are already decently served hardware wise, it's GREAT. Arguably the best it's ever been.
If you have to buy a PC right now, on the other hand? I've no memory of a worse time to jump in.

It is in a sad state but only due to price, I am actually worried that if I fry my rx580 I'll have to get a 1060 for 300 just for my PC to work.

Not sure how his argument about games being rehashed over and over are a pc problem, it's arguable if your sick of that pc is the best place to get something different. Hardware is a shitshow period, I still can't get a ps5 unless i want to spend double or more for one either.

By the way he speaks about games, he seems to be the sort of guy who pays attention only to that couple of yearly "mega releases" (which yes, have been mostly stale for years) and doesn't pay attention to anything else.
Cyberpunk-related tangent aside he kept talking about "Far Cry, Crysis, COD, etc". I was almost wondering if he spent few years in hibernation or what.

Never heard of him. This is why I only watch Gamers Nexus, IF I even watch anything (emphasis of "if", as I don't really care most the time what's going on in the PC landscape).

Did you not him bro, he's been around since the inception of PC gaming. Literally day one 🙄

I'm not paying above MSRP for a 3080.

My poor poor 1080.
Fucking this.

I want an RTX 3090 but fuck if I'm going to contribute to scalpers. Fucking goddamn pieces of shit selling a $1600.00 card for $3500.00.

I seriously hope they get trapped in a house fire because they fell asleep while eating their chicken tendies. Fuck 'em, seriously I hope they die screaming in agony

I'm having the fucking time of my goddamn life gaming on PC.

Shesus, the amount of genre's that I've discovered, games that I've never thought I'd grown to love, is beyond words.

What is this nonsense.
