Horizon: Forbidden West | Gameplay Reveal Trailer

Visuals and sound are awesome. Aloy's face looks way better, and her hair looks awesome specially under the water. I see the gameplay highly improved, the melee combat looks way better, and there are new options that seem very well implemented, like climbing, gliding, swimming and that hook. We also saw interesting weapons and the setting is cool, so I'm happy.

What I didn't like is, as happened in the first one, the character design of the NPCs like the guy she helps at the beggining and the guy she saves later. They are very realistic and in the tech side they are great, but things like their face or haircut seem very generic and artistically tasteless and with no charisma, even if in the tech side they are perfect and look great.

They look like two guys from the present who were watching football and eating pizza in the sofa and someone put them to act in a movie wearing cosplay. They don't look as two guys raised on dangerous, savage postapocaliptic world who had a difficult life to survive.

No release date means Spring 2022 at the earliest.
No release date means it's still the same one we had until now, so H2 2021.

Yeah no release date was a big negative, when exactly is this coming?
It's coming H2 2021. Maybe they wanted to save the release date announcement for their big summer event and/or or to wait to see the release dates announced at E3 to make sure it doesn't happen the same it happened with the first one, when they released it at the same time than BotW.

I bet they will release it around September-October, unless Nintendo announces BotW2 or other relatively similar big selling AAA game for that period. If it's the case they may move it to November/December.

You were expecting them to show how Aloy can go play darts at the local tavern, put decals on her mount and have the freedom to choose which quest market to go to first I guess

Expecting is the wrong word to use.

I wanted them to demonstrate an open world that felt more alive. A world that gave the player more meaningful choices. I wanted to see some simulation aspects be added to the game.

We still might get that in further reveals, but what they showed to me wasn't what I wanted to see from Sony's flagship open world franchise.

And that's OK. I don't expect every game, or trailer, to be designed for my specific tastes.

It looks super nice, but the more fidelity increases the more you notice the things there are missing. Like for example, those raptors must weight half a ton and yet they walk on sand as if it was concrete - they neither sink their feet on it, neither kick up sand nor have it get stuck on their feet.

You're right, this is how aloy should run through the sand:

And this is how the machines should run through the sand:

Tremendous fun all round. Aloy 1, machines 0 and she didn't even have to lift a finger.

Watched the 4K stream now. Looked absolutely amazing. Holy fucking shit. And the combat, which I thought was the first games biggest strength, seems to be even more fun this time around. Very excited for this. Looks to be yet another first party banger.

I'd say I'm pretty impressed, obviously the initial stream was of low quality so much better once you see the actual video, which itself will look better on our own TV.

Can look absolutely amazing at times and we are yet to see the weather come into play really in gameplay. This is when in games it usualy looks best with weather effects etc. I think those storms will look amazing.

Only downsides were some clipping and a couple of times gamey lighting, but at most other times the lighting looked amazing. RT would probably sort that though.....presume this didn't have RT...

Kind of wish was PS5 only and allow them to push that to the max but still look very good and will only improve.

I can't believe it's cross-gen. Looks incredible.

That said, I'll tune out in 30 minutes if the gameplay isn't improved. I'm not calling it bad by any means, but something about the game structure doesn't hold my attention well. I think it's the generic open-world quest design.

this makes no sense to me. Because you dont know what advance alloy these machines are made of. Traditional metals wouldnt work for robots in the future. Future materials will weight less than plastic and be many times stronger than steel.

Its a game about robot dinosuars but the sand physics takes you out, LMAO.

Pretty disappointing that you feel threatened by what I said right there.

I thought owning a ps5, having throughly played the original and its dlc would keep the white knights away and allow me to make some points about what I saw, but console warriors never miss a chance.

So we can't make jokes now? I'm making a joke and you're feeling aggrieved by it? Good grief.

To put it simply if we had realistic sand physics in games then they wouldn't be fun in the slightest. Have you ever tried running in sand with just your swimming gear on with no shoes on? Nevermind running around fully clothed carrying a load of gear.

We have swimming robo-dinos, aloy talking underwater and you're all like "but guys the sand physics".

It's the strangest of all strange things to pick on, of course I'm going to make a bloody joke out of it. Considering the way you've reacted to my post it probably goes to show that you weren't being the slightest bit sincere in your complaint about "sand physics".

I'm sure it will be great, I loved the first one but I hope Aloy won't narrate every single shit she does in the full game, it's very annoying.
And, really, do we still need another scripted "gameplay" trailer?

I still think this will be a 2021 game. They said it's on track and is on schedule so probably just got a small wiggle room sometime when to release in 2021. I think there is also a factor in release timing against competition as well. Zelda no doubt is coming out this year and I reckon they don't want another Zelda Vs Horizon situation where all the conversation was on how amazing a open world Zelda is. I'm also guessing they want to avoid releasing games against their own marketed games like Deathloop so probably looking for a decent time to drop this game. I think at E3 time we will know when this is releasing which where we will know release dates of all other games coming this year. Also by then Ratchet would have released which then means they can go full steam ahead on Horizon marketing with release date.

I think the narration aspect was just added for this trailer. I think they were going for "cinematic". I highly doubt it'll be in the final game, or if it is, it will only be occasionally.

I don't see you making jokes on people that have nothing for praise for the game (if you did, you'd have hundreds of posts in this thread). You clearly targetted someone who had something to say that wasn't just praise. That's console warring and your facade is wearing thing.

It's not about being realistic about walking on sand, is about creating the illusion that these entities do. You can see on the trailer that alloy does leave footprints on sand, but the robots don't. If you watch the segment where the raptor does the attack where it lifts up and "shouts" for lack of a better word, he's interacting with the shallow water but not with the sand.

This lack of fidelity will only be more and more noticeable moving forward as graphics get better. It's the nature of the beast, there's no more weirdly low-rex textures, no more noticeable polygons on sight to remind it's just a videogame, so every single thing that doesn't fit becomes more noticeable.

People must be looking at the low res version of this to say it is not a crazy next gen looking game. I get there are imperfections as with everything - but the quality of it and look of it can’t be denied
it's the best looking console game ever so far, but I was expecting to be impressed by the gameplay or open world.

Nice graphics... but in all honesty, it looks similar to Horizon Zero Dawn.
I don't see much of a difference in relation to the first Horizon, besides a few updates (played it on PC).
