Horizon: Forbidden West | Gameplay Reveal Trailer

Serious Q - What would 6 months of time do? What are some of the tasks the developers need to do to achieve the polish in this time frame?
Well..people tend to get wet while submerged in water. Aloy was instant dry coming out of the sea.
There is almost no life in the trees while the gameplay section was around the sea. Is there really no wind there?
The grass, as in HZD, doesn't move when Aloy is walking around. They should have fixed this in the sequel...they didn't.
Games developed for the PS5 runs perfectly in 60fps. HFW is a cross gen game and Guerrilla choose to show in 30fps, footage from a PS5 console! The game looks beautiful for sure, it's far from ready. As in, not ready for 2021.

Yeah I'm with you man. Even a lack of sound from walking in sand and some of the stealth animations don't look the best. Sure visually the game looks really good but the fact this is a very controlled demo environment and we can so easily point out lack of details is telling. This is only the first gameplay showing as well. People seem to forget that Horizon Zero Dawn showed some gameplay footage from the first reveal trailer.

They certainly have a lot of polish to go through if they want a marquee title and I can't imagine the headache this is for the last gen version.

While this game looks great and all they need to fix the hair clipping issues and in general all clipping with foliage and her body equipment. It irritates the hell out me because it breaks immersion severely; we are in a new gen right? it’s so close to being perfect and I’ve seen other last gen games do it better, hopefully they see and fix this before release….

others
1.Aloy doesn’t get wet or drip wet trails behind her a last gen feature Uncharted 4
2. Sand foot trails?…. God of War and RDR2 says hello

you guys better fix this 🤔😡

Guerrilla Games have lifted the lid on Horizon Forbidden West, showing off a meaty chunk of new gameplay footage for the open world action RPG. As the sequel to one of the PS4's most beloved games, it goes without saying that there's a lot of excitement surrounding the game, and in the recent State of Play, we were treated to several new details on the game.

Here, we're going to talk about the biggest talking points from the showing.

I didn’t play RDR 2 that much to be honest so I don’t have an opinion on that. But you can’t deny the fact that Death Stranding technically is far better than HZD.
I don't know how we ended talking DS vs horizon graphics, but i disagree, DS is better for some things, worse in others.

The open world is almost completely barren while horizon has both animals, dinobot and humans roaming through the map, so more things to render, also more destruction between rocks and trees , DS has few human enemy camp and very little more.

Also, and this is a personal opinion, there is nothing inside DS that impressed me more than a thunderjaw in horizon.

DS has better textures for the locations and the faces are better and with much better digital acting also the water and grass are better.

They have different art style, horizon is more colorful and slightly cartoony, DS is more bleak and super realistic, they have different points of strenght imo, they are both incredibles.

The graphics and everything else are nice but this game just doesn't call my attention it doesn't' get me hyped. I played the first one and the ending was shit imo so I'm not going to bother with this one.

this is more impressive than a thunderjaw. in fact it's one of the most impressive things i've seen these last few years

Until it doesn't for the last 2 shots. There is a lot of consistency issue with how different things interact with each other. Also notice how the last shot is coming away from the actual weapon.
Oh for sure you can start to notice a few technical hiccups here and there after repeat watches. There were even some instances of pop-in in that demo.
At the same time it reassures that what we're seeing is an actual playable build of the game.
I think it's still at least one year out, so I imagine Guerilla will utilize that time to iron out most of the wrinkles.

Looks great. Here's MBG gushing about it, if it hasn't already been posted:

price to graphical tech , the p5 shitesssss on any pc , no screen door effect to graphics , so sharp , yet so so smooth , and as a bonus, you can't waste your life and soul mining shitcoin numbers on one

man i love my p5 , i'm gonna bang it again all day tomorrow , not like dat , i'm not r2d2

*right thread.

Game looks better every time I look at it overall. It's weird because the cinematic portions are the only part with any noticeable artifacting, the gameplay portions all look amazing and sort of perfect (granted there's a lot of motion blur, probably the difference.)

Why does Aloy look like a chubby boy :messenger_tears_of_joy: ?
Especially in the thumbnail.

Graphically, looks fantastic. Doesn't really seem like gameplay has improved much. Other than the graphics, gotta say I'm a little underwhelmed. Still, does look very pretty.
Graphics is essentially what this game will sell on ( per usual ).
I dunno how people can just play the same games over and over again without getting bored, I am so tired of these open world games they all feel the same and so empty.
The games can be as pretty as they want but it's all just set dressing.

When you see the side by side comparisons to the original game, I'd firmly believe we can play what we saw at SoP. The original still looks amazing on my OLED.

😆 the dude at the beginning drinking the water, looks like they motion captured an actual new born drinking from a baby bottle.

Nice, but a better comparison would be the final game instead of the two year old mid development vertical slice. the final game looks way better than that trailer.

Aloy picks a gigantic weapon from the sand after blowing it off from the dinobot

Wow does this girl have an arsenal on his backpocket...

Jesus how can people enjoy these youtubers reactions is beyond me, he looks like the triggered woman meme in that fucking thumbnail :lollipop_squinting:

The game looks amazing but it didn't blow me away, its just a really good looking game. I was expecting this quality at 60fps tbh, since its cross gen. Maybe im not blown away because of how it looks like Uncharted 4 but with little bit more detail and folliage. I mean drake's model is comparable to aloy's model and the environment has also alot of similarities. Im not saying that HFW looks like UC4, what im saying is it looks good but not a gen ahead more like 1.5 (just like you would expect from a cross gen game).

I know what you mean. I am sure in some years time if a game is targeting, say 1440P @30fps we are going to see the best these console can do gfx wise. 4K IMO is a waste of resources. Also as other said, attention to detail on open world game is more tedious job. May be only Rockstar games with a army of devs and unlimited budget can do it ?

The above opinion sir is to be respected. I agree with you while I have my personal opinions (as everyone). Thanks for having a nice conversation on that matter.

Edit: As for the small technical issues, guys relax I’m sure they’ll fix those later. The game doesn’t even have a release date. There is no need to be upset.

Graphics look nice, but the environment design looks too fake and not grounded enough. I haven't played the original, but the melee combat looks better here? So I might give this one a go if it gets good comments about melee combat.

shits on any pc for price..., find it hard to see any jaggies on p5 , thus it looks smoother and more 3d , less screen door effect. stead of looking at a screen , i feel with good hdr and sharp , yet smooth graphics , i am looking into a world on tv , not at world on screen... get me??
Screen door effect is a display issue. Just depends on your monitor on PC (but people also use TVs.)

I don't like how she seems a bit disconnected from the environment. In some sections it looks like her feet aren't making contact with the ground, like she's just slightly floating above the ground. Also, her face looks like she's been stung by a bee on her cheeks.

You mean as in it’s obvious? Or
By now we expect from Sony first parties a Quality and a Performance mode. I favour quality and I am ok with 30fps that deliver this kind of experience. If you want to play 60, you'll have the option and you can do what you want.

This is why I am amazed that what OP said could be considere a valid argument.

its a display issue , but the smoothing of the graphics , seems to have had the same effect, more depth.
smooth yet so much detail , gorping at reptiles skin on mk last night , awesome jobby sony.

not saying my screen had a bad screen door effect, previously , maybe my hdr wasn't set right , don't know , just so nice on eyes.

maybe the drop the black to lowest level on Vincent's rec hdr settings helped, as that adds depth also.

maybe i found a sweet spot , maybe the p5 has some kind of magic , what ever it is , its nice on my eyes.

its made my few year old sammy 4k 32inch sceen ,shine better than ever before!

Well I mean both trailers were pre-release. We have no idea how old the build is we just saw for Horizon 2. So it's still worth comparing. I'd say it's pretty likely the release build will have more polish to it.

I had more beef with the exploded box of crayons color pallet and goofy tribal armor art direction than the technical aspects. But then again HZD trailers didn't do anything for me. When it came out on PC I bought it out of boredom and enjoyed it way more than I expected. Luckily the trailer didn't make me want to rush out and buy a PS5 to play it sooner. I'm sure it'll be good enough to kill some time with when it drops on Steam in a couple years.

Jump from the tip of a high pillar, land on a flying dino, watch an elephant roll over trees in the forest. Kamikaze attack. Finished that bitch. Instead, we got a benign gameplay like Lara Croft on the PS2.

The most exciting part of the whole video.

But look at the possibilities the new traversal mechanics have opened up? They just showed 14 mins. There will be more moves, weapons and mounts. Just being able to explore the water opens up huge possibilities. The gameplay looks improved with far more variety and way more ways to escape or plan attacks.
Hopefully the game might have a co-op mode and a MP mode too.
The graphics will get polished and any bugs ironed out. The last six months are most of that.
