I already have one, And I have been playing on it all the latest releases on PS5. Games are running better on PS5 than PS4 Pro, Dual sense, Pulse 3D and fast loads are all awesome features well worth it. I would not play Returnal with old and slow HDD on PS4 PRO. YOur are right back in the action in a blink. I would be pissed if we usually got half assed games as seen on other first party games offerings. But the upcoming games that are crossgen are awesome games made by technical powerhouses. So i guess all people that currently does not have a PS5 can still get the chance to enjoy those games without all the bell and whistles present on the PS5 versions. It's a huge user base that cannot be left behind completely due to this is a fucking business that needs to make as much money as they can. That is how they invest on multimillion dollar games.

Honestly most of the people bitching are just trying to do this whole being fair to both platforms type of narrative. Because people complained about XBox's strat in how they openly talked about cross-gen, people think now that we have to be fair and call out SOny.

But the thing is they have PS5 only titles. Just that since we are not going to new arch, it makes sense to not throw away all that work on PS4. I think the reason people were so harsh on xbox was because they didn't show anything that showed Series X only games or features of a game that is apparent in it's design that could not be achieved without huge trade offs.

Sony literally showed games all using specific features. I think when we see Horizon again with FLying mounts and seeing the whole map loaded, with an insane view distance of everything loaded similar to Miles morales PS5, I think a lot of this will make more sense in how Sony framed up PS5 experiences for their games regardless if they are available on PS4.

When is the next big time franchise ps5 exclusive coming out outside of Ratchet and Clank? I am going to be very upset if Spiderman 2 is cross gen for example.

Show me where Rift Apart, Demons Souls are on PS4? The "We believe in generations" Holds true with those titles, and you will see the bigger picture soon when we see more PS5 only titles. Just that those titles specifically started way back in like 2017-2018. So what they had when they started was PS4 in terms of devkits/engine tools.

The features of how some of these games run are very apparent in compromise in having them on PS4. Miles Morales on PS5 compared to PS4 is a different experience.

Already have one and enjoy the PS4 games i'm playing on it with quicker loadtimes and better framerates, also there are PS5 games i've already played that i loved (Demons Souls, Sackboy) and great ones coming soon (Ratchet).

I love that people like Colin are bitching about this. I'm like did you not follow the switch's first year? Literally a bunch of ports, and games that engine/tool wise started on Wii U.

You can't expect at the specific time frames for some of these games to all be 100% designed around PS5 hardware if no one had said hardware for devkits? I mean when they started production there weren't any ssd's even in the same speed as PS5 let alone video cards with Ray tracing. So it's either wait, and start from scratch, or continue designing your planned project and then just scale it for PS5. But their next project will target PS5 only.

Like I love that Colin doesn't put into perspective that it;s not like we are going from power PC arc to x86 like last gen where you had to cut off and design around PS4 only. As arch was too different to start the project on PS3 and bring it to PS4.

With going from arc x86 to arc x86 the tools, engine all work seemless and you can build on to it. Once they go to the next project I assume maybe a larger rewrite will happen but a lot of the grunt work will be done for making a PS5 only game in their engine.

I mean if the games are not amazing you and showing the difference in each gen, then yea I guess voice your concern. But right now from what i've played and seen coming. There's no way im angry in thinking their vision is compromised.

I think that they want to level the field in their minds that the situation on Xbox Series X is not bad, they touted to have the most powerful console from the get go, and when the first games were released they were inferior to PS5 versions, then they made excuses that the tools were not ready and not mature enough, they have been showing lots of CGI, but when they show actual gameplay they dissapoint badly, HALO infinite which by all means 343i have never been a tech powerhouse. They just had better hardware available with Xbox one X.
Just watching HFB the other day, no one went away disappointed that game impressed a lot of people only the naysayers and the usual nitpickers complained and if this is the kind of game we get that is cross gen and it still ozzes so much quality and detail, I am confident that when Guerrilla shows a PS5 only game, we are going to be amazed.

PS5 is killing it with their PS5 only exclusives and they are killing it on their cross gen offerings. And that is a fact, because people have to go with Aloy is "fat" to try to downplay the show.

It would a terrible long term business model if they decided to drop the PS4 entirely as the base is so large and the selection of titles fairly small. It would be shafting too many people.
What this does is make the AAA titles more accessible whilst giving Indie titles a hell of a head start.

As the creativity is almost always with indies, anyone who wants to tackle PS5 exclusives will get a big boost from this, especially if they focus on graphics, and we should see a lot of creativity as it allows indies to catch up to the AAA's.

Sure, already got an xbox will likely pick up a ps5 when ratchet and clank is released. I think xbox is doing quite well though, first time i've bought an xbox so I benefit greatly from game pass.

1. If you have a base PS4 there are several good reasons to upgrade: resolution, framerate, loading times and exclusive games

2. If you have a PS4 Pro I assume your reason for buying it was to experience the games at higher resolution, fidelity and framerate then see option 1.

There is really no good reason not to upgrade IMO, unless you’re saving money or waiting for specific games

I've dialed back the search 100-fold the past few months. Won't buy scalped out of principal, and will just wait for when they are readily available in retail. These announcements have nothing to do with that decision, since their first party have always been polished. Will still also wait to play the cross-gen games on the PS5 whenever I pick one up for the 60FPS goodness.

But if Ps5 become more widely available and Sony stops scalping their own console in these parts I'd still consider getting one. Sure it will mostly play the same game as my pro, but will do so much more nicely.

The answer is people are already upgrading to the PS5. Its selling out almost instantaneously , as its tracking ahead of the PS4 launched aligned in terms of unit sales and dollar sales, regarless of cross gen games.

I no for a fact my ps4 pro isnt as loud as three ps5 ive had, if i turn both on unless yr ear is touch my pro you wouldnt no its on, my ps5 isnt to bad on home screen but u can deffently hear the fan spinning from a distance, go to start miles morales up and my ps5 spins the fan up and u get a rickety sound and u get slight coil whine also, where my pro will stay silent then maybe after half hr of gaming on the pro the fan kicks in faster but there is no tone to the fan its like a pc noctua fan , ill maybe have to get one of them db meter app and compare my ps4pro to ps5

Quite happy with my PS5 coming fom a base PS4. Between exclusive games and retrocompatible games whuch have improvements I'm more satisfied than I anticipated. And maybe I was lucky but my PS5 is super silent most of the times.

Will never understand the noise with the cross gen thing. The games still look really good, better than most of the things in the market. And if you don't like it then just don't get a PS5 yet? Its not easy to grab one anyway...

I really wanted one but after reading a fair few things here I can wait. Not even having expandable storage has turned me off somewhat too. It screams of a console utterly rushed to market for no reason whatsoever. In the bums rush when it came out I was fuming I couldnt get one, now, I think it was for the best honestly.

I was just about to say I didn't see you mention Xbox AT ALL yet several people start talking about how bad Xbox is as supposed to talking about the topic. It's so weird.

On the topic I picked up a PS5 at launch because I hate FOMO. In addition one of the companies execs already mentioned that there was going to be a cross generational period so I never expected every game to be exclusive to the current gen. I am just not a believer that just because a game is cross gen that it was 'held back'. A creative game developer will be able to make fantastic games no matter what platform they are working with. God of War and Horizon should still be decent games no matter the PS4 support.

You may have the worst luck in the history of electronics. My experience (two pro's and two ps5's) is that the PS5's are whisper quiet when playing any games, and the pro's ramped up to jet engines when playing thee taxing games.
