A Halogaf Community Thread: The Old Becomes New

Some Infinite OST snippets appear to have been released as part of the Mega Construx promo vids.

Standouts for me were the second half of Skiff, all of Warthog Rally and some of Banshee Breakout. I'm a happy camper with that Halo feel from those snippets. Thanks.

It seems there are some light spoilers on some equipment and vehicles but you can never quite tell what from the toys actually makes it into the games 100%.

Well they actually sound like Halo, I actually liked 4's soundtrack because it was just totally unique and different sounding, it stuck out from the crowd. But 5's soundtrack was just generic hollywood music that I barely even remember.

In fact out of everything that's been revealed for Infinite the soundtrack is probably my favorite thing so far.

From Jeff Grubb:

>Microsoft seems interested in catering to "Halo-ass Halo fans". He thinks non-fans will just see it as "more Halo" and thus he's worried the reception might be bad.
>He expects E3 to be multiplayer-focused.
>If they do new multiplayer modes like Battle Royal, that'll probably be down the road, this will probably be things Halo fans know and love like Capture the Flag at launch.
>Doesn't expect a huge, long deep dive into Halo at E3. They're busy finishing the game, not E3 assets, which take a lot of time away from development.

Interesting stuff.

What is a Halo-ass fan lol? Is that good or bad?

These are fun:

I'm partial to CE though

I assume it means they're going to really try catering to Halo fans this time, unlike the last two times where they were chasing other audiences instead. Which is a good thing IMO.
I agree with you. That's what I would argue a majority of halo fans have been asking for a long time. Not all, but a lot.

Battle Royale me, 343.

Do it for God's sake.
A halo battle royale could be a lot of fun, but I thought 343 originally stated they weren't going to do put one in Infinite. Then again with Halo multiplayer known for having so many different gametypes, having one more battle royale wouldn't really be that much of a stretch or effort imo.

Well that settles it then haha. But seriously I could see them backtracking later on down the road. Infinite is supposed to last for a long time and will likely be a continuous work in progress. I remember Bungie was adamant that Halo:CE matchmaking would never come to xbox live, but it finally happened thanks to the PC version. 343 obviously has their own multiplayer baby in warzone that they want to promote but I could see a royale version coming some day, especially if for whatever reason the reception to Infinite is less than stellar (knock on wood this never happens).

Yeah, they denied it but I think it fits the times and the IP perfectly. It also fits the 10 year scope of the game.

Battle Royale likely won't be there at launch but I'd be pretty surprised if it doesn't get added over time. Hell, you could probably just make it yourself in Forge/Custom Games.

The big trouble with Halo and Battle Royale is the population and especially regional population outside of USA. My guess is 343 won't cull the other modes from multiplayer to condense the population into one or two BR playlists. If they tried to have BR as a playlist amongst the Big Team/Warzone and social/arena modes they splinter the playerbase too far and wait times/skill/squad matching would be atrocious.

Above all else I think this is the major reason Infinite has to steer clear of BR. I can see a separate Halo title going after BR down the track if Infinite doesn't have huge numbers with all the cross platform it will be supporting.

Honestly at this point I'd go some BR capture the flag/invasion mash up over traditional Halo modes anyhow. Give me PvE content with Infinite and a BR mode to boldly leave behind Arena etc. They don't have the balls to go for that, it might be smart not to. Who knows.

I wonder though if having a BR mode would attract new gamers. Those who like traditional halo will be hard pressed to switch over to battle royale, but having a battle royale mode could feasibly interest non-halo fans.

True. I suppose only something like 25% of my long time Halo friends moved to BR games but they also stopped play Halo 5 altogether. Made some new mates via Apex that have never played Halo.

Sold. Book it. 343 build Halo BR and they will come.

A Halo Battle Royale would be excellent for the game's population. CoD Modern Warfare has Warzone but still manages to pull in plenty of people for its other gametypes as well. While you wouldn't want an oversaturation of playlists, I don't think that'll be a problem. If they use the MCC's playlist features and include a customs browser I doubt that Infinite will be hurting for players.

To be specific, the Franchise Writer denied it once in 2018 with that BR pun, stating they weren't interested.

In 2019 though a "Microsoft Insider" Brad Sams said it was being considered. Frankie would later say there is no plans for a Battle Royale at launch and that they wouldn't discuss content until they were "ready".

After the delay in 2020, the Community Director Brian Jarrad said rumors were, "Unfounded".

It's not likely the game will launch with a BR mode with all that considered, but their language is pretty non comital. I'd bet we'll see BR happen eventually, even if after launch. It's a major potential draw for new players that Halo could use well considering its large sandbox. 343's attempt for monetization via skins and Free to Play multiplayer also smells of BR, but that's moreso just by association.

Has anybody seen the thing going on with Marty? Apparently Bungie may be going after him again, and he may be getting forced to shut down his Youtube channel.

Fuck Bungie if this is true, TBH. Dude has more talent in his pinky than any of the slack-jawed idiots currently working there.

That's crazy. I'm sure there is a lot of stuff behind the scenes that we don't know about but still... Leave the guy alone lol. It looks petty, really petty.

I didnt mean Brad Sams, I meant three times denied directly from 343i. Four times if you include that Phil's tweet on Battle Royale.
Bonus

Pretty average if true, it's not like he's selling them or something. I have been enjoying the snippets of his creative process and closet audio finds.

Oh I just added him for context to Frankie denying it. Phil’s tweet definitely adds doubt to the possibility that it will launch with a BR mode, but I just can’t see them skipping the is chance. Ultimately though, I just want to see Invasion brought back… and Elites…

What if we got playable brutes lol? Would people be annoyed or interested?
Absolutely interested. Whatever they can do to broaden the playable pool in multiplayer. Campaign should remain Chief and Arbiter at most. Maybe even multiplayer Spartans ala Reach (for the co op characters).

I mean hell imagine if Halo had an Invasion mode that had enemy AI paired with 6 Player characters. Jackals, Grunts, Brutes, Elites and even Hunters could all be played. The Spartan side could have classes with special equipment slots and maybe one special buff? There’s so much potential for this game that I doubt will ever be scratched sadly.

I remember Halo Reach had a game mode in the beta called generator defense that was sort of like what I’m describing. There the Covenant team actually had AI on their side but I might be misremembering that part.

Another neat idea for Battle Royale Halo would be to add weapons caches all over the map that players can take after defeating AI guards stationed there. Maybe make the station have auto turrets you can hack to make it a defendable position? The neat thing about Halo is that it has recharging shields (though a health pack system should absolutely be added back into the game) so you could probably do this sort of thing without it being too unbalanced.

Just my pro pipe dreams though…

I wouldn't mind a campaign where you played different sides to advance through the story. I doubt that is what 343 is doing but it could be fun.

Didn't realize they were working on adding firefight to match composer in TMCC.

I'd really like to see different races and power levels etc e.g. Apex characters and abilities or like a staged invasion where you start as an ODST, then power up to Spartan the next round etc. I dunno just some creative game modes.

I'd kill to see something like abilities from Jedi Fallen Order implemented in campaign too but Halo based obviously.

Bring on Brutes, Elites, Forerunner, Humans, Flood etc.

Check out the tires on the warthog. I love the texture. wonder if that is just concept art or perhaps an in-game capture. Looks like a scene from Standoff with the radar dish.

lol Feels like sucking the sweat out of my headband for sustenance. The 13th needs to come faster!

Neat to see the Warthog though.

I just want to see the game already. There may be an insiders beta for the multiplayer, but all my stuff is packed up in boxes and in storage as I just moved. Living out of a suitcase until I move into a house toward the end of June. I still expect this game to be loads of fun. I think the graphics will also be fine.

Where is Klobrille getting some of these images? I've checked both the official halo and official Xbox twitter accounts and nothing.

Edit: Some concept art images have leaked from the 2022 wall calendar. I wouldn't call them spoilers but view at your own risk if you don't want some hints of the location settings in Infinite spoiled (if you can even call them that).

Man the art alone for this game makes it feel like the first real sequel to Halo since Reach.

Halo Community Spotlight - these are always good. Probably the last thing we see before E3 begins.

That ghost with the wanna-be tricycle underneath is too good. Hyped for Sunday. Also avoid Halo Reddit if you don't want any Halo TV spoilers, some images are going around that have leaked.

The ghost would be fun to ride around. It looks amazing. I'm always impressed by what people create. I can make a paper airplane lol.

Yes, bring it 343. Those shoulders on the latest far right one are too bulky and really ugly for an animation rig. Other than that a sweet image to browse over and keep the hype going.

Agreed. Still a cool piece of artwork by someone I assume is a big Halo fan. E3 is always weird. I don't start thinking about until it's within a couple months. Then those two months take forever to go by. Then all of a sudden it's only two days away. Unfortunately I'm working tomorrow and Sunday, but Ill periodically check for updates on my phone.

Public holiday down here for the Xbox event. The gaming gods made the stars align.

Happy to see more quality of life work being done with the Custom Games Browser.

The hype is real. I keep checking e3countdown.com even though I know when the xbox show starts anyhow.
I have to be at work early tomorrow, which means I have to go to sleep early tonight. Like I'm probably gonna go lay down here shortly but I might have trouble sleeping... Crazy how it's almost 4pm Sunday on the east coast of Australia. So that means Microsoft's conference is at like 3am... Will you just stay up for it or watch it later on Monday?
