It was smart move for them. Let people be hungry for the new console, while you build your data center with these console. Once it's done, you can just continue to ramp up production, since you have now some information about how many people need the console.

If you want the best deal with gamepass, get 3 years of Xbox Live Gold first. Wherever you want. If you have costco, I believe they sell a 2 year card for $90. Otherwise, I think newegg was selling one year codes for $50 each. Anyway, once you have 3 years of Xbox Live Gold redeemed on your account. Sign up for a one month gamepass ultimate. Should be $1. It will convert all your Xbox Live Gold time to Game Pass Ultimate. I get somewhere like >20k points a month which is greater than $20 just by doing some quick Bing searches like skipping through Elements, and doing a few game pass quests/daily achievements. Even by just doing bing searches which takes a few seconds each day you'll get enough to infinitely top off your Game Pass Ultimate sub forever. Or, save up for "free" games like Battlefield, even a new console should there be a mid-gen refresh.
