Keep GI updating at 60 why the rest is 30fps. Still there a lot extra performance rendering like this will free upIIRC the RTGI in this game relies hevily on temporal accumulation. So halving the framerate would make the raytracing a lot noisier and the increase in resolution and ray ocunt would not necessarily make up for it.
Funny how concerned sony fans are with the budget friendly series S, why does it matter to you? You're not the target audience for it.
It's clear now people hating on the XSS are just warriors looking for an opportunity to criticise MS. This game runs with more effects and higher framerate than the last generations' best device. It's doing it all for $300 to boot. Comments about the Switch and it's resolution are more disingenuous nonsense. Is this game even on the Switch? Both systems cost $300 does the Switch run any games with raytracing? What about the X1X?Looks good on the X. Some spots are weird with how the lighting differs from PC though. Wonder if those are bugs or just how it is. Series S def looks pretty blurry at times, but it averages around 900p... for a near locked 60 FPS fully raytraced GI and others title. That's pretty insane.. pop in is pretty distracting though.
Y'all bitching about "512p" don't even have an S and love looking at the lowest numbers to fuel your narratives.
The OG Xbox One ran Metro Exodus at around 900p THIRTY FPS without any sort of raytracing or enhanced graphics at all.
I am really not sold on ray tracing.
Don't get me wrong some of them scenes looked great with ray tracing.
But I am not going to stand there admiring it.
I feel like ray tracing is still in its infancy, maybe it is truly spectacular on pc (haven't seen it first hand in a beefy pc) , but on consoles I can certainly pass on it currently.
Edit: I just hope they keep it optional for games it effects the performance off, playing WD:L at 30fps was mega rough after playing everything else at 60fps or even 120fps in some cases.
Series S next year. “Hey buddy, you wanna play this new game?”series s be like
Series S is a little beast, doing RTGI and all that. Perfect for a small TV.
Thank you for the insight, well I really hope devs move on from this ray tracing phase.I have seen it on pc.
Ray tracing is more of a accurate lighting rather than good looking. At lower settings it can look much worse than SSR.
In one or two generations we might have exclusive ray traced lighting and textures. Untill then it feels mostly gimmicky.
Probably for the best. Just watched the series S segment and the footage looks really blurry. 512p is roughly 1024*512 so we are looking at 500k pixels. almost half of 720p which is around 900k pixels. So even if they targeted 30 fps the framerate would dip to just above 720p during this forest level and most firefights which apparently cant even hold 60 fps despite DRS going all the way down to 512p.Can't watch it at work,
Wow, that's insane.Reconstructing from 512p for games in early 2021? Switch esque resolutions
Series S was a mistake, this console is gonna struggle so hard not even mid-way through this gen.
No, but for just $100 more (or roughly $70 more in my country), you can expect roughly the same performance as XSX from PS5 DE in this game.Is there any other console or PC for that matter that can give you the same performance for $300?
You could have a 100 dollar console that plays next gen games with RT at 240p. Your point about value and nothing else matching it at that price point would still hold true, but would anybody actually want to play like that? We all have a threshold on what resolutions we would consider "playable". It just so happens that the S is often under it for many of us in 2021 like here and I imagine the more we get into demanding RT games the worse it'll get. Does it personally affect me? I hope not, but looking at the footage I can't help but feel bad for all those that bought this console either because they couldn't find an X or because they bought into the 1440p60 marketing and thought it would be good enough. I also feel bad for the developers, MS should have gone with a discless X but they decided to put the ball and chain on the developers instead for the next 7-8 years. It's clear now people hating on the XSS are just warriors looking for an opportunity to criticise MS. First the XSS is bad because all games don't have raytracing. Then a game has raytracing and its knocked because it runs at a lower resolution. Is there any other console or PC for that matter that can give you the same performance for $300? So strange seeing so much 'concern' from people who don't own the device and most likely never will. So very sad.
He needs to do this first.Series S next year. “Hey buddy, you wanna play this new game?”
Reviewer clearly states that it is not hard to find places where the console runs at 512p. Pretty much the entirety of Taiga runs around that resolution, and reviewer points out that in many places, the game simply doesn't look good/sharp... It's not a "min" resolution, clearly it needs to stay there in certain places and combat sequences. You can clearly notice the heavy blurrines in the video.Looks good on the X. Some spots are weird with how the lighting differs from PC though. Wonder if those are bugs or just how it is. PS5 will probably be 1440p-1620p in open areas. 1080p lowest DRS with the same settings as Xbox Series X. Foliage was better in AC Valhalla so it will be interesting to see if the foliage gets improved here on the PS5.This is more detail
Series x
*1520 - 1728p when doing nothing in open area, and you spend plenty of time doing this.
*1080 - 1280p when there is action and combat.
Reduce in tessellation and the quality of GI when compare to pc. Duh.
*Frame rate is generally solid. There can be dip, but frame time can be distracting when multiple spike happen at a time. This happen the same on both Series console.
Series s
*The same resolution drop apply for both open and combat scenarios.
*Lower draw distance compare to the x.
*Pop up can be distracting
*Loading is faster on pc.
I'll be surprise if the ps5 any better than this because this is a ray tracing game. Maybe the loading is faster.
Series S next year. “Hey buddy, you wanna play this new game?”
I dont think metro is the correct answer. That game is made for pc. Even XSX is struggling. And you missed the S maintaining 60 fps with raytracing. That is impressive for a 1080p console. It even run cyberpunk2077. So I doubt next gen games would be hard on this console. You could have a 100 dollar console that plays next gen games with RT at 240p. The resolution needs to be high enough to be able to appreciate the visuals, otherwise all details are getting lost. Unfortunately this is the case here, In certain shots the S looked like an oil painting.Same old Debbie Downers in every thread crying about resolution and ignoring visuals at hand.
Thank you for the insight, well I really hope devs move on from this ray tracing phase.
I just don't feel the sacrafices are worth it.
Agree with this a lot.No, but for just $100 more (or roughly $70 more in my country), you can expect roughly the same performance as XSX from PS5 DE in this game.
This isn't AC Valhalla. This is a game more of pc game. So Xsx would have advantage due to its pc like. Metroid series are PC games. I would be surprised if ps5 can outdo xsx on this game.PS5 will probably be 1440p-1620p in open areas. 1080p lowest DRS with the same settings as Xbox Series X. No idea why loading isnt faster than PC. This should be running on the next gen GDK.
It will look just fine on a 1080p screen that Series S is made for. They should have just made Series S version 30fps, but it's not the end of the world considering it's targeting a demographic of users that don't care too much for graphics, similar to Switch owners. It's pretty obvious that people who are complaining are not the target audience for this console and have no intention of playing on it, they are just here for fake outrage. The resolution needs to be high enough to be able to appreciate the visuals, otherwise all details are getting lost. Unfortunately this isn't the case here, In certain shots the S looked like an oil painting.
yesWondering if ms will allow xss to stream xsx versions of the games (like they are planning to do with flight sim and xbone). You can play native at low res or stream at 4k with all bells and whistles

Alex calls them optimizations, I call them downgrades. Way too many cuts needed to get this thing to run with ray traced lighting. 1296p in the GPU open world areas? Fine, I can live with that seeing as how this is 60 fps but then he spends the next 5 minutes listing downgrade after downgrade from the PC version.
These consoles arent built for fully ray traced games. Maybe the mid gen upgrades targeting 20-25 tflops. I'd rather devs use traditional techniques to make games look next gen for now.
Yes but in fairness RTGI is the most computationally expensive form of Raytracing and I have to say the results here are amazing. It is not a full raytraced game.
It is using raytracing for GI I believe everything else is rasterized.
I believe Minecraft RTX is one of the few games full raytraced in the market.
I thought they were Nintendo games. This isn't AC Valhalla. This is a game more of pc game. So Xsx would have advantage due to its pc like. Metroid series are PC games. I would be surprised if ps5 can outdo xsx on this game.
The amount of pop-in when the camera is moving forward in this scene is horrific.
Bravo Sir, made me almost choke on my cornflakes.LMAO dude that’s what optimization means. It’s always meant knowing what to cut. What do you think they just typed in /sudo run better/
I’m ready for it! The bought the complete edition on sale last year for the PS4 for 15 bucks in anticipation of the upgrade. One of my favorite games of last generation and still looks stunning. I hope more people check it out as I felt like it was criminally underappreciated and wasn't talked about enough. Super immersive game and maybe more people will check it out now with these upgrades and enhancements.
So your solution is to spend more money? Are you going to provide the extra funds? This goes against the entire point of having a low end inexpensive device meant for the masses. A low end device that has more 120fps games than the device that costs more. Plus the $100 you save actually let's you get the XSS AND this game. Or could pay for Game Pass for almost a year. The $100 price increase doesn't actually give you more games. Doesn't sound like a great deal to me.No, but for just $100 more (or roughly $70 more in my country), you can expect roughly the same performance as XSX from PS5 DE in this game.
Made my thoughts about this "oh you should just spend more money' solution above. With regards to concern about the developers they can use features like SFS and VA to mitigate lower ram quantities. The XSS whether you admit it or not has the same RDNA 2 GPU and Zen 2 CPU. It is as much as a 'ball and chain' on developer as any low end graphic card is; which is to say not much. The system won't get the same graphic performance but it has the capabilities to run current gen games at lower resolutions and effects which is the point. You could have a 100 dollar console that plays next gen games with RT at 240p. Your point about value and nothing else matching it at that price point would still hold true, but would anybody actually want to play like that? We all have a threshold on what resolutions we would consider "playable". Exactly. It's always the same people and its pretty durn sad. So much 'concern' from people the console wasn't targeted at in the first place.Btw, calling the Series S a 512p console is like calling the PS5 a 900p console (Dirt 5). Disingenuous bullshit and borderline trolling.
Pop in exists on the XSX too. Glad you mentioned the Switch too. How does this game run on that platform sir? I assume the same since you brought it up.The amount of pop-in when the camera is moving forward in this scene is horrific.
Would have been better to just remove all foliage, altogether. Would make the train sequence less distracting.
It really reminds me of the Pokémon Sword and Shield pop-in on the Switch.
