Halo Infinite graphical comparison 2020 2021

Man I really hope that last quote is inspired by me since I did say that a few days ago and still believe it.

You know just because something is dead doesn't mean it can't be revitalized. I would have said the same thing about Metroid before yesterday, and yet a new Metroid game was just announced that appears to look completely different from past entries and people are taking note. I think people are misunderstanding what that term means in this context.

BUT ... why do I hope it's from me?

A) Because I am not a Sony guy, I am a video game guy and I think this is hilarious.

and

B) It shows you love me ... you really, really love me.

Guess i was wrong, they did improve it. But by how much? Halo 4 on PC with GI looks on par.

That video is not objective at all. That guy brags how better looking the fusion coil is using a cutscene vs old in game model, its the same. Also how big is that thing (see shadow)?

Have you played Halo 4... honestly?

I've played it a lot and although it is a stunning game, if you tried the multiplayer the game is aesthetically ugly with impressive graphical techniques. The materials and armors look super dated now and funky, they over did the lighting and bloom effects, a super cluttered and over detailed visual design. It really doesn't hold up to what I saw with this Infinite trailer

Call me crazy but I still think the original art style looked cool. It definitely caught me off guard when it was revealed and it certainly looked underwhelming but I eventually came to think that maybe it was intentional to give it an old school vibe.

Now it just looks like a gritty shooter.

I mentioned it in another thread, but the initial art style maybe helped the game run at a higher framerate? I dunno, just trying to think of the merits of it. It totally came across as a throwback to the original, like celebrating Halo's roots, etc.

I have to agree. A lot of people are drawing their own conclusions that not showing the campaign at E3 means that it will be terrible. I tend to think that it just wasn't ready (and they will show it soon) or that they simply wanted to focus on the multiplayer. I'm not of the opinion that it's a disaster and that 343 are afraid to show the finished product.

The best part about what 343 are doing is showcasing that this whole time they weren't some clusterfuck of development. They just needed a bit more time.

Have you seen the gifs, showcasing how nice the animations and details are even in MP?

Look at the fall animation of that spartan, check the way the equipment and weapon falls and sparks, or the way the grenade rolls away. Very nice attention to detail I wasn't expecting.

Imagine saying this looks bad lol.

Looks really good. I get a lot of H2A vibes from some of these clips. Very clean.

people aren't allowed to be excited. no fun allowed

You're allowed to be excited... when they actually show us the game instead of the bullshit they put in front of us at E3 which had no actual campaign footage and a sizzle reel for multiplayer.

All I'm saying is pretend you've been here before with 343's bullshit and don't give them flowers without actually seeing the game first.

The multiplayer trailer thing on Monday had plenty of in-game footage. It looks good. Idk why it would look any worse in campaign, and the screenshots they showed in the blogs looks similar enough. I have no concerns about the quality of the game. I think it looks great.

You guys are those dudes that get excited when they get a participation trophy... smh

If only my penis was as big as my GamerScore!
If they missed the console launch for these minimal graphical upgrades than it did not seem worth it to me. Anyway graphics aren’t key to Halo they’re only intriguing it’s a gameplay first game.
They delayed it to actually finish it. This was getting delayed with or without last year's demo backlash.

I thought the game looked super fun last year, and now it has a shiny new coat of paint and some polish to go with it.

It has always been one of my most anticipated games and after this E3 it is even more so.

They've done a seriously good job at retexturing their assets. Looks very different from last year alone.

Pretty impressed, guess the engine is a limiting factor as this started development targeting a shit console (Xbox One) but the texture rework definitely makes the overall IQ better.

Still isn't an amazing looker nor does it look next gen in any sense of the word but its acceptable now.

I see huge improvements. Lighting looks better but also textures are looking significantly better.

Worth the delay.

I was under impression that the new dirty suit was some batman arkham style armor degradation (especially considering the new story lead is from the arkham shit) that we'd see across the campaign, but im pretty sure that clip was near the start of the game so it must be a redesign.

Exactly, that's immediately after the the pilot finds Chief.

The rag doll physics on the Brutes from 2020 was rough and really stood out to me. Considering Halo has had great rag doll physics in past games (that sometimes lead to hilarious outcomes), I was praying they would improve them. So happy to see that they appear to be back to their former glory!

It looks better but this video is a pretty mad comparison since it's looking at totally different places, times, scenes.

It 100% looks better i love that his head snapped back like that.

Yes. So much yes. The physics, animation quality and fps aligned is wonderfully executed. The detail is exquisite. These are the sort of things that get me excited for what their new slipspace engine is capable of. This is what makes a gun fun to shoot, this is what makes a multiplayer game replayable thousands of time.

I wonder if they're using Ray Tracing as yet, which also makes me wonder if they're using RT for physics also e.g. hit registration, animation focus etc?

I am n for the story but whatever undeniable improvements they did made from previous build, it still doesn't attract a double back second glance just for the graphics.
If the graphics are only serviceable, they better pull out huge environmental scale in campaign. Maybe that Halo 5 Guardian desert teaser scale.

I can't stress this enough, but if you don't own an OLED display, even a phone that contains a nice OLED screen for you to watch all of this new footage for Halo Infinite, you are truly not seeing just how brilliant this game actually looks.

The artstyle and the way it comes together with these environments and the effects, it's just a really impressive looking game. And make sure you're watching the highest possible quality that you would find on the official Xbox or Halo page, because I hate seeing lower quality re-uploads that are of lesser quality than what's available on official pages.

If you don't have an OLED display go by a friend's one day who does or ask a friend who you know has a really nice phone that has an OLED display, max the brightness and get a real good look at 343's new engine and what it looks like for MP and SP.

I think there’s a thing here where it doesn’t look “realistic” and it doesn’t look “cartoony” but it’s in this sort of simplified style - and people may see that as bad graphics. Fact is it just looks super fucking clean - everything looks sharp and simple and quick - which is how halo should look. Imo it’s really great

If you say so. Don't be so salty that you can't defend the Xbox because 343 won't actually show the game.
... apart from the several minutes they showed off that people are discussing in this thread that you're responding to? What? Did you think before you wrote this, or do you always just roll your face across the keyboard and hit "Post Reply"?
