Easily Sony Santa Monica! Rumor is Corey us making a New IP.Guerilla was mainly known for a FPS like Killzone and then they made HZD which was completely different from anything they had done. While it had room improvement they hit the mark and it is a beloved new IP with a highly anticipated sequel. Which other Dev who are known for making one kind of game will go in a completely different direction and succeed?
I'd be ok with them going back to Jak and Daxter for a while.hopefully Naughty Dog. try something new and daring instead of sticking with safe formulas and pandering to a particular safe market
There is no need for another Uncharted or TLOU game. Uncharted Lost Legacy seemed like they were taking it in another direction but who knows what'll happen. Uncharted is just stale. TLOU had so much promise but they fucked that right up.
No arguing there, I never said stop what they’re doing. ND are great at what they do. But what’s wrong with trying new things, it can enrich them as a developer and bring new innovations. Why? Its what they do well and there is plenty of room for variation with a new IP while keeping a linear narrative based game
Its kind of like asking Rockstar to stop with the open world games
Possibly being exclusive? It might be interesting to see Naughty Dog try an RPG to counter Elder Scrolls 6 possibly being exclusive to Xbox.
They haven’t made a game since 2014 and only took over the development of Metroid Prime 4 in 2019. What the fuck did they do with that 5 year gap? With all due respect to Retro but if they ever tried something that isn’t Metroid or Donkey Kong I suspect we’d never see it.Retro Studios. Nintendo should give them the full freedom to do whatever they want (as long as it's Fucking Donkey Kong).
You know what, I'd played TLOU2 before Uncharted 4 and some of the design choices from 4 were carried over to TLOU2 it felt very similar. How a scene is constructed and points of interest are brought to your attention. Even the bigger expanded environments were all started with Uncharted 4, I think they are leading into fully open world games.I agree, ND need to release at least one game this gen that doesn’t follow the same formula as Uncharted and Last of Us.

That would be cool, even if it was similar to Metro Exodus with their larger open areas. Seattle in TLOU2 certainly felt like they are heading in that direction. You know what, I'd played TLOU2 before Uncharted 4 and some of the design choices from 4 were carried over to TLOU2 it felt very similar. Step out of there comfort zone? GG was terrible at making fps another kill zone flop would of sunk the company and hzd has the same problem as kz, dull boring ass games look good thoughGuerilla was mainly known for a FPS like Killzone and then they made HZD which was completely different from anything they had done. Where is my Uncharted Kart Racing.hopefully Naughty Dog. try something new and daring instead of sticking with safe formulas and pandering to a particular safe market

This is a good one. I’m excited to see what this looks like.
It should happens , right?!Wait for the inevitable horse carriage racing mini game
Table tennis says helloWhy? Its what they do well and there is plenty of room for variation with a new IP while keeping a linear narrative based game

Well obviously you played it and I haven't, so there's that, the close camera looks a bit Gears of War though right?! The rest has all been done before or are at the best very minor innovations. I guess with any great dish, the ingredients can all be familiar, but it's the way that it's all put together that is what elevates it!Well it doesn't actually play like any of the games you listed or any other game really so that's a core problem to the point of your argument, when it feels very different to play than any other game in its genre
It does plenty to innovate. The closed in camera combined with axe mechanics. The Non-linear hub with the layered level design across multiple realms and the sinking water levels opening up the level design. Single cut camera. Introducing progression mechanics into the series.
No denying there are inspirations but to go and change so many fundamentals of a series in such drastic ways and then claim its not innovating without having played it is a bit absurd
A bit like claiming BOTW isn't doing anything original because its an amalgamation of things done in Ubisoft games, Shadow of the colossus and older Zeldas. You can generally point to another game that did something similar before for anything released these days
Naughty Dog has such an absurd level of detail, that making a game like Elder Scrolls would take them 20 years and cost 3 billion dollars. It might be interesting to see Naughty Dog try an RPG to counter Elder Scrolls 6 possibly being exclusive to Xbox.
I really like Croteam with The Talos Principle as an example, but it was more a confluence of things coming together rather than the company changing tact since they went back to Serious Sam afterwards.
They made what you could call "mindless" shooters for years with Serious Sam, and then suddenly in 2014 released a puzzle game which I would say is a modern classic in the genre. I love the puzzles, narrative and themes of it. I also love the music. The presentation could be called copy and paste but there is a narrative reason for that.
It really crushes you with the cold harsh reality of the world/life but it also makes you feel the beauty of the world at the same time.
Its currently buttons on Steam so no better time to give it go if you like logic puzzles and philosophy:
You can even get the base game + DLC + soundtrack around a tenner.

I'm betting sooner or later Uncharted 5 and TLOU3 will be things. Just not yet.hopefully Naughty Dog. try something new and daring instead of sticking with safe formulas and pandering to a particular safe market

I'd be pissed off. Some developers should stick with what they do best. From Software trying one of the two types of first person games:
- Cyberpunk theme
- Survival game on some planet in the random place of universe
I would seriously shit my pants.
Nothing wrong with that. That still leaves massive scope for something new and exciting.I can bet 100$ that ND will always do 3rd person linear cinematic games.
I don't agree, regarding from software there is slowly but surely a sentiment of souls-fatigue setting in. I am clearly not as excited for Elden Ring as I was for their previous projects due to how close it seems to be to what they already did ten times already.I'd be pissed off. Some developers should stick with what they do best.
Well, I'm excited enough for the both of us.I don't agree, regarding from software there is slowly but surely a sentiment of souls-fatigue setting in. I second this. But they are not starting from scratch, they are taking an old painting and re touching. They also have unlimited resources so im sure it will be fine, will it be masterpiece or unforgettable, doubtful.
I second this.
Last I heard the guys at Playground don't even code. They sit in front of the screen, watching the code generate itself. They have zero effort to make, it's all magic, really.
2nd half characters in TLOU2 were forgettable. The first half was great, the second half was great as well but it felt like a huge effort to get you to like Abby. Felt more forced and was not a flawless execution. The ending, while I understand the big picture, was such a cop out the build up did not make the payoff make sense. The story is not as well executed as Part 1. Other than that, it was an incredible ride.Pure blasphemy, Naughty Dog is the only studio which pushes the medium with every new game they make. Every other studio just tries to copy what Naughty Dog did in terms of story telling, authentic charakters, cinematic gameplay, pacing et cetera. Fact that many prople are still sour about TloU 2 is proof that ND made something incredible, fanbase is still split even a year after TLoU 2s release. Fact that people raged, cried and threatened Druckman with death threats just because of what they did with the story, speaks volumes that they developed characters, not just NPCs or a generic dude who nobody cares about.
