I listened to a lot of gaming podcasts this week and the following leak (?) was brought up consistently...

bluepoint-games-acquisition.900x.jpg

What surprised me was that all the hosts seemed to want Bluepoints next game to be another remake. The idea of them making an all new game was barely entertained, and if I'm being honest, almost scoffed at. This shocked me personally because I assumed remakes are, by nature, less exciting than new IP.

So what does the NeoGAF collective say? Should Bluepoint (a studio with more than 90 employees according to their website) commit to another remake? Or should they begin their journey of forging a new path by making an all new game?

Depends on what their idea for a new IP would be. If a remake ends up being a "better game", go for that.

Depends on the game. Only remake I'd like them to do is ICO. Anything else, new IP for me.
On the other hand, I'd really like them to make quick remasters for the last guardian and Bloodborne! Shouldn't take them longer than a week each...

Remakes can be scary sometimes cause some devs just don't know how to do it, but Bluepoint has done a great job on Demon Souls and SOTC. So i say MGS Remake would be awesome, but i mean a true remake faithful to the original legendary epic game release in PSX, but with Kojima as director/supervisor would be even nicer so we would avoid a dogturd ala Twin Snakes.

I dont think remakes are inherently worse than new IP's.

There is plenty of new IP I dont like. With a remake I at least know right away if its gonna be my taste. I like good remakes of good games. Plenty of them need them. Games arent as mature as movies and hence old games with good ideas, stories and settings can improve greatly by using new tech and updating the gameplay. I think having a studio for making good remakes is not a bad thing tbh.

Neither of the options. Would like to see them creating a brand new game from an established IP. However, not sure which Sony IP could fit them well as of now. Old Sony IPs I care about are varied, like Resistance, Legend of Dragoons, Socom and Twisted Metal, for example.

Well, remakes and remasters are what they are known for. They didn't exactly set the world on fire with the game they made themselves.

The only game they made themselves was Blast Factor, which came out in 2006. Bluepoint Games was founded in 2006 and was probably only a handful of people at that point. I'm not sure if they should be forced to wear the scarlet letter of remakes forever based on what they did 15 years ago.

Kingdom Hearts: Re: Re: Chain of Memories. Turn it into a soulsborne and make the card decks manifest in character builds. MAKE ME PROUD, BLUEPOINT

Since nobody is lined up to make it happen, give the task of updating Bloodborne for PS5 and PC to Bluepoint.

After that, a Killzone or Resistance collection. It doesn’t have to be built anew, just a proper update to the SP campaigns and I’ll be satiated.

Give me a god damn Blasto remake, twisted metal black remake with all of the story, online and new re-imagining of their specials.

Syphon filter remake, Legend of Dragoon, Jak and daxter series remade from ground up.

I’d like more remakes because we haven’t seen Bluepoint try out making a completely new game. They might not be up for it, since it needs good writers and stuff. We might get a 7/10 really nice looking game.

We will definitely get a 10/10 remake from them though. They are the best in the business doing that.

Bluepoint should stick to what they are the best at and that is making awesome remakes.

Next remakes/remastered which I hope from them are:
- Bloodborne (like Demon's Souls)
- MGS1 (a full blown remake)
- Resistance trilogy (remaster like Uncharted trilogy, maybe modernise the controls and things like that)

Either a whole new IP, or at least a sequel or "re-imagining" of some existing IP.
I find 1:1 remakes a bit boring. They are really exciting for a couple of hours until you get used to the new visuals and then it starts feeling like you are just playing the same game again
