Wow.

It was at first a game which i found a bit depressive, because of the not so joyful start of the game, but decide to give it a chance from that beginning because i want to play a Metroidvania game.

Was tough. Died like a million time, decide to put the difficulty to easy ( there is people beating this game with one life? ), and it was very fun. Was not expecting a game like that ( a lot of die/retries to pass areas, etc, was more thinking it was similar to Metroid ), but its very great. Thank you Microsoft to let these game go on Switch!

Now Will of the Wisp is next!

Tag, you're it.
Amazing game, and the sequel is even better.
Played on hard and it was worth every death *chief kiss*

Awesome man. In my opinion the best Xbox game(s) of all time by far.

Absolutely awesome games. 100%ed both of them. I think I activated Gamepass for that game alone and didn't even touch any other games on there.

Extremely pleasant to see when sequels get things right. Hope that a third entry is not too far away.

Highest praise I can give these games is that you could tell me they were Nintendo first party and I would believe you. Quality.

Totally agree. Its refreshing to see an other studio do something that amazing, and coming from Microsoft, porting it to Switch is brilliant. Curious how much more copies the sold porting it to Switch.

Nice, I should try it.. I did a silly thing and went straight to the sequel because of the stellar reviews, and it is indeed amazing.

Both are on gamepass for PC so I might give it a go after I finish Yakuza 0

Great visuals. Good music. Ok gameplay and insulting told story IMO. The way they deal with themes of death is preachy and saccharine.

I’ve had a good amount of people close to me die in recent years. The way the story is told, it plays out like it’s written by young people who have never experienced it close up. I thought the second one was even worse in that respect, which was a shame because the visuals were even better, and the gameplay was a bit tighter.

When my friend and I would discuss the game we used to call it “Ori and the Depressing Sadness.”

I thought it was incredibly frustrating and a big waste.
I did like the game, and I loved it near the end, but that's the problem, the gameplay only become amazing at the very, very end. It's when you finally start to have fun that the game just ends, it takes way too long for you to have all the gameplay mechanics available, and it's really a shame, because it really was good at the end, but it should have been like this for a bigger part of the game in my opinion.

I also felt the same way about Jedi Fallen Order recently, though it definitely wasn't as good, but it would have been a lot better if you had the whole gameplay available for a bigger part of the game.

I've been eyeballing this game for a while now, but is it really that difficult? I'm just not down to play if it's gonna be like that.

Edit: I guess I could jump into the second one. Is it worth playing the second if you haven't played the first?

I didn't finish the first and Ori 2 is perfectly playable on its own

I played the first half of the game on normal difficulty, and for my taste, it was very difficult. Then i realize i can change the difficulty to easy in the menu, it was then a way more enjoyable experience. I still died a lot cause the difficulty is not the enemies, but the area and you need to learn it a bit, but still was pleasant to complete. To give you an idea, its more easy imo than Hollow Knight, and more enjoyable since your always pinpointed on where to go next, still with stuff to do on your own to explore. I beat the game with 74%, got lots of stuff to do still.

Wisp fans here say its a better game, have yet to see that, but wanted to do the full experience and start with the first one first, and it was an amazing experience!

Ori 2 didn't seem better. Not sure why anyone would feel strongly that is the case.

A lot of Ori 1 is forgivable, until they do it in the sequel. Zero new ideas in the overall structure. Powers aren't used to max out the player's skill. There is 1 nice environment in the back half.

I’ve tried hard to get into the game, and I just can’t do those type of 2d platformer games anymore. They just lack any sort of drive or forward momentum to me, they feel like a chore to play with no real reward for doing so.

to be fair though I feel the same way about Mario and sonic games. I never really feel any “fun” in playing them, there is no forward momentum to make me want to continue, the gameplay loop just doesn’t catch me, instead it feels like work

I'm usually a sucker for Metroidvanias and platformers in general, but I'm far on the opposite end on this one. I think Ori sucks. Way too up its own ass with that opening, and there's nothing in the gameplay that I haven't seen done elsewhere better. Celeste, Super Meat Boy, Rayman Origins/Legends - all these games blow Ori out of the water as pure platformers, and as an open world (more akin to a Metroidvania) there's not enough *in* the world to keep me engaged. Metroidvania games populate their world with enemy design or interesting environmental obstacles. Ori has a few environmental challenges that are alright but most of the world favors the boring. Art is the game's strongest asset but even it kinda works against the game - There are sometimes where I would struggle to see enemies (the ones there are in the game) because very little if anything seems to have been done to set enemies apart visually from their environments.

One of the few games I felt compelled to write a negative Steam review on. Based off its sterling rep I was expecting a good time but I was surprised at how much it falls short.

Edit: Also, I'd heard allot of praise for the soundtrack but I don't even remember any of the tracks in the game. Compare this to like Hollow Knight or Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth where I can remember the majority of the tracks in those games. Hollow Knight has these moody tracks that settle you into the atmosphere of that desolate world but they all stand out on their own, and every track in Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth is just fucking metal.

I found the first game to be overrated and boring, i thought the gameplay was shallow from a combat and enemies standpoint, only the platforming was good and the art ofcourse. I thought it was mediocre.
Then the second game came and i was having a blast, much better art, music and gameplay, its an improvement for sure and it took inspiration from Hollow Knight, its a very good game.

Ah! Decide not to start the 2nd one just yet, going to try to 100% it first. Just got the last two skills. 😬.

Play Yoku's Island Express as a change of pace inbetween them if you want more Metroid-esque gameplay but don't want to go straight into Ori 2 (after 100%ing Ori 1), not sure if you are on PC or console, but its only £4.49 for PC here: https://www.cdkeys.com/yokus-island-express-steam-pc

This one is a bit more jolly overall, great music and characters.

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.
The sequel is almost as amazing. However, I would take a break between them both so that you don’t get burned out or get annoyed at not having all your abilities from the get go.

Yeah its next. Got it at half price like 2 weeks ago. Will play it for sure 😁
Same, was wanting to play a metroidvania after the dread announcement and gotta say, I don't think that little robot chasing you will compare well to this

EDIT: Would be awesome if someone made a mod of this game and replaced Ori with Samus and called it,

Metroid: The Dreaded Depths

Would be sick.

I'd agree with most of this, been having a good time for the most part but I did take issue with enemies and their projectiles blending into a mess of colors and yeah the story is trying too hard to be artsy and emotional.

It's a great game. Unfortunately the sequel doesn't reach it's highs I think. One of the best platformers for sure.

Damn, only played a good 3 hours of the game before moving on.

Working through my backlog, so I'll put this on and play it soon!

good advice. I started to play Ori 2 right after 1 and ran out of steam about halfway through, with it being so similar, took a long break, and then forgot wtf I was supposed to go, and now feel like I need to start again to not feel lost

Great games but too much precision platform for my taste (not a flaw of course).

Combat was pretty shitty in the first one but the second looks better.

I think I'd love this game. It's on my long term play list, i.e. never getting to it any time soon but before I die.

I know you have more lofty combat standards compared to me so YMMV but I think its 10x better than the first, and the variety is great, you can have a build where you just burst them down but have to get dangerously close, or one where you risk all of your energy to basically one-shot them, or use the bow to create chain reactions of damage and so on.

Based on what you've said in the past I say play on Hard from the start and you'll get a good challenge, especially from the "battle arenas", where you can definitely go completely your own route and even if your build isn't really suited to the types of enemies you are fighting you can still win by not being greedy, but if you do run into issue you can also make a specific build for that challenge and that feels satisfying to work out.

You do really need to go a bit out of your way to find all the hidden "skills" and do sidequests to get the best choice of builds, bear that in mind if you don't like exploring too much.
