tell me a Sony MP only game that is still online and playable today.

tell me a PS3 game that is still playable online today

you can't

and again, no, this has nothing to do with anything of the sort. this is simply cat licenses running out
lol @ bringing up Sony, I'm not a console war fanboy. I don't like how Microsoft handles software.

Microsoft is not competing with Sony, they are competing with the entire game publishing model. It's like Netflix vs. old school TV and moves.

I used sony to show that this has nothing to do with gamepass and this is nothing new. every game that heavily uses licenses will face this fate and it has zero to do with Microsoft handles games. you cna still play most of their games today even online

Don't you just love when people complain over nothing, Microsoft is doing good, they didn't have to do this pretty cool incentive but they have (even though I've never purchased dlc, as far as I am aware)

Edit: retail copies are not going to magically vanish either...they will still work too.

No? Microsoft promised that all first party titles would remain permanently on Game Pass. This was a first party title, people bought DLC for it because they believed the game would be permanently available through Game Pass. What kind of backlash do you think they would get now if they just ran away with the money people wasted on DLC and how much trust do you think that would inspire on people thinking about buying DLC for Game Pass games?

It really puts me off how quickly Microsoft is ending the support of the Forza games. It especially hurts now when there's no FM8 for at least another year.

You obviously just want a reason to bitch and moan, so I'm not even going to waste my time.
Here I was thinking era was the website for pretend outrage over nothing lol.

On Xbox you can still play Forza motorsport 2 online too... Surprisingly

Don't you just love it when games are delisted a mere 4 years after it launched....

Ok...so when we heard MS was doing some DRM, online only console, let me remind folks that THIS was what they fucking had a plan for. So its clear that with a digital only concept, MS, EA, Activision would be going HAM on this shit lol Every time a AC, Call Of Duty, Madden, new Forza etc would come out, they'd just stop people from buying the older ones lol

A ACESHIGH Sure, but they can just release it without those tracts, but then again I don't really know all the details to that, like maybe its locked in based on some weird contract lol

I don't know.

Sucks regardless.

Let me just get it out of my system, um "but MS waNts to pResErve dA gAmEZ" lol

I hate how they do this with Forza. The games are gone forever, into oblivion. Well if you dont own the game.
Stupid licenses.
It's not their fault, it's the car manufacturers faults. Nothing MS can do about it other than continue to pay for licenses that likely cost more than any sales they'll make on a 4 year old game.

Licensing sucks.

I had no idea this was a thing. Did Gran Turismo go off the market in the past too?
It only really applies to digital, since they stop making physical copies long before 4 years after release. Gran Turismo has only had like 3 actual digitally available games (5, 6, Sport), whereas forza has had like 10 by this point.

Can you buy gran turismos 1 to 6 on Sony platforms from their stores? This happens to almost every single game with licenses. If they are not renewed its either remove the licensed content or delist the game. And in a game like Forza or GT you can't just modify 750+ cars to keep the game in a storefront.

Yeah unfortunately its the same with Codemasters racers too, except i belive its 6 years before they take their games off of sale.
I hate it but its an unfortuante part of the industry, and its probably going to get worse with the music industry tightening their grip even more these days.
Its purely a business decision though, a shit one, but an understandable one. With the amount of cars and music track there are in Forza games, the probable millions it would take to renew the licenses is simply not being met by the sales for these years old games.

I see, I had a feeling it wasn't just a "keep the music off and the game good" lol

Sounds too simple and those legal issues can be crazy. This shit makes me never want licensed shit in those games lol

Especially with all the DMCA shit recently. I dont know why studios dont just make their own music from now on, or pay a band to make the music.
I certainly couldnt care less about licensed music in these games, especially when music today is pretty shit, 90% of it anyway.

Man, this thread takes the crown of the thread with the most shit takes on this forum. Like:

How this has anything to do with Gamepass when its also leaving Gamepass? And since you mentioned Sony, good luck playing Drive Club, at least FM7 servers will still be online.

It has to do with how Microsoft handles games long term.

Incredulous Excuse Me GIF

No seriously, what the hell are you doing in this thread if you can't be bothered to read the OP, get an understanding of what the thread is about and comprehend what the key information is?

Are you daft? Maybe a little special? You should tell us because i'm sure most of us don't recognize you, and maybe you are slow and we need to break it down for you a little betterr.

We definitely don't want someone with your cognitive issues to live their lives walking around like they understand everything while knowing nothing, so do inform us and we'll accommodate :/

Wait, what does this have to do with gamepass again?

Forza has always been on the 4 year delist cycle from quite early on. This isnt anything new.

But I guess only a sealed copy would work as they are codes, not on disc.
Motorsport 4 has an final edition disc release that had all the cars on it. Unlike an online license you can rebuy if you it for sale.

downside of disc-based Forza is I don’t think they’re backwards compatible.

it’s not much better on the Sony side as the disc based racers from PS4 (while BC) are online focused and never got complete edition discs.

a shitty state of affairs if you’re a racing game fan.

The dics are backwards compatible on Xbox, is this something specific for Forza?

Well I don't know about all that.

I don't see any evidence this is a MS thing as suppose to a licensing thing. We've seen this licensing issue from Sony, Rockstar, EA, Activision and MS and many more, I mean I felt it was as easy as just don't have that music and you good to go, but that is trivializing this situation and making it sound like its some easy fix lol

I don't think Sony, MS, Rockstar, EA and many more just don't want to make money, but that an issue comes up that is very fucking hard to go around causes them to remove a game.

I don't see enough to say this is some MS policy that they alone do or something.

In order to first understand how unique something is, one first must see how often it happens to others.

Stuart360 Stuart360 Agreed. I wish they'd just have a back up where the contract states after it lapses they'll use different music or something, I don' t really get why those contracts lock it in as if it then can't be sold without that music or something.

Keep in mind, I have nothing against music artist appearing on video games as I feel culturally it fits and helps everyone. The world gets more real feel and vibe, the artist gets recognized, its not all the time I learn of a band from a video game, but I became a MASSIVE Mastodon fan from hearing a track from Tony Hawk and have been a fan of ever album for almost 20 years, so its a great outlet for new artist to get discovered, but that shit is some train wreck when it comes to licensing and it seems no one really has a policy that makes sense from it. I don't want people to miss out on great music, but shit I also want people to be able to still download great games in the future too.

Looks like the answer really might be some custom tracks or even deals for exclusive rights to something. I'm sure MS or EA would pay to have Drake do a track for some game lol

You’ll still be able to do everything you can do now in the game, even after this date.

The only difference will be that new people can’t buy it.
I know it doesn't change things for existing users, but not being able to buy a new digital Forza Motorsport for probably about a year (I'm assuming FM8 is coming in Q3/Q4 of next year) looks bad and it won't help in introducing new players to the series. Plus not being able to buy DLC's will hurt if you're playing and enjoying the game and want more content.

I'm hoping that GTS stays active at least until GT7 comes out since GT6 was delisted a little over four years after it came out.

Okay, I think that's really stupid ... I like to play Forza (especially Forza Horizon), but mostly only years later. So this is pretty disappointing!
Years later? You like Forza Horizon but you don't buy it for years after release? So when 5 comes out you'll be playing Horizon 3?🤔

This isn't a thing specific to Microsoft/Xbox. It's a digital licensing thing. You'd be better off bitching at the license holders for various car brands and music...🤷‍♂️

I mean, to be fair, this is pretty common especially with people who have massive backlogs and/or like to save money by purchasing older games with a large discount.

The thing is, who hasn’t bought it 4 year/s after release that doesn’t want to play it? I get it sucks when it happens but its an Xbox one game we are in the next gen. Discs will still be circulatiing to buy. But yeah a 4 year old game that probably isn’t selling still so its no biggy at all

Tbh if you or anyone of you who are upset by this news cared about Forza Motorsport or was intersted in playing it then you all would have bought it by now. So stop it. Ok?

If you have not bought the game in 4 years that means you don't care and you just doing concerned trolling.
>buying games in le current year

cousin pls
