As expected from the historical market leader.
Interesting.To everyone praising Sony:
1. This is a Nintendo thread, you can celebrate Sony accomplishments in the multiple Sony thread in this same forum
2. Did you not read where it says that from the moment Sony entered the videogame business Nintendo has increased its lead over them on total number of consoles sold?

You mean the console/portable hybrid sector.Pretty impressive. Nintendo has the handheld sector all for itself.
You would think they would realize this, but those haters gonna hate.To everyone praising Sony:

Apr - Jun 2021
Revenue : €2.48 billion (-10% YoY)
Operating profit : €922 million (-17%)
Net profit : €714 million (-13%)
You mean the console/portable hybrid sector.
Yes the negativity from some, surrounding each and every Nintendo Switch hardware and software sales success thread must just paranoia, yes that's must be what it is.Because of a post of a user, who might or might not be Sony aligned, where he posts (I assume correct) data, without comparisons to other consoles, without his personal takes on it, it's SonyGAF.
Yet you mostly find praise in this thread and if Sony is mentioned, then to praise both.
Guys you should really start to brush this paranoia off, it's not healthy.
Conflating WiiU with Virtual Boy doesn’t sound fair, tbh. WiiU was bad hardware advertised and promoted terribly. Virtual Boy was just something nobody knew what to do with.Yea, Nintendo has put out a lot of consoles over nearly four decades with only two clear stinkers in my opinion (Virtual Boy and Wii U). I think it's also impressive that Sony is so close considering they got into the game about seventeen years later - though they enjoyed a changing consumer base of gamers that began growing at astronomical rates in the 2000's and more and more consisted of young adults with disposable income. Nintendo, on the other hand, spent a good fifteen years selling mostly to children, the earliest years of which were to a smaller group of families capable of affording a large purchase like that.
The OP mentions Sony and PlayStation several times. You can't demand a PlayStation free zone. This is a Nintendo thread, you can celebrate Sony accomplishments in the multiple Sony thread in this same forum
People suggesting Nintendo had a bad quarter but still sold 4.5 million consoles, if that's bad I would still take it an run a mile.

Ladies and gentlemen a immature Nintendo warrior with mental disorder.SonyGaf strikes again, as we are not allowed to have a thread celebrating the fact Nintendo have sold lots of consoles, and if they do it's usually down to people buying rubbish or the pandemic, of course if we have a thread that says the PS5 has sold 10 million consoled that's all down to demand.
Also your comment about the decline has not context, the main reason the Nintendo Switch has sold less in the first quarter 2021 than it did in 2020 was Animal crossing, this game should have been released in Dec 2019 but was pushed back to 2020 thus inflating the sales figures in 2020, traditionally Nintendo sells it's most hardware over the Christmas holiday period. This year will be boosted by the Pokemon remakes, and 2022 will have Pokemon legends, and of course you have the new OLED model out in October, but please feel free to suggest the Switch sales slump mantra if it makes you feel any better.

Also, why seventeen years? The Famicom debuted in Japan in 1983, the PlayStation in 1994.
Do you have other graphs? Like one with only home consoles and another with only portables?Nintendo crosses 800 million consoles sold, No. 1 console maker in the World
As reported in the Nintendo’s latest Financial Report as June 2021 Nintendo have sold in total 800.84 million consoles worldwide since 1983*.
Nintendo is, by a wide margin, the console manufacturer which has sold the most consoles in the World.
Total number of videogame consoles sold by manufacturer as June 2021 (only console makers which have sold at least 30 million units):
All of this because the poster posted a Switch fact in a Switch thread? Yet you're the one crying about and mentioning Sony and not the poster? What did Sony do to you?SonyGaf strikes again, as we are not allowed to have a thread celebrating the fact Nintendo have sold lots of consoles, and if they do it's usually down to people buying rubbish or the pandemic, of course if we have a thread that says the PS5 has sold 10 million consoled that's all down to demand.

They can pass 155Congratulations to Nintendo, they can pass 140 milion unit.
Just look up GB + DS + PSP + Vita sales and do the math, but does it matter? We all know who is stronger with consoles and who with portables.Do you have other graphs? Like one with only home consoles and another with only portables?
A company which sells too much bigger 3rd party vs a company which sells their 1st party games mainly.Good for them. Sony is still very impressive, having been in the market for 12 years less than Nintendo and 6 more than XBox.
Now to wait for the goalposts moving.
A company which sells too much bigger 3rd party vs a company which sells their 1st party games mainly.
I would side with the company who sells their 1st party.
There's GBC+GBA+3DS+GG too plus pretty likely some more I may forget.Just look up GB + DS + PSP + Vita sales and do the math, but does it matter? We all know who is stronger with consoles and who with portables.
Taking sides isn’t the point here, fortunately.A company which sells too much bigger 3rd party vs a company which sells their 1st party games mainly.
I would side with the company who sells their 1st party.
I meant all GB and DS variants and didn't mention GG, Wonderswan, Neo Geo Pocket and so on, because i think Yurikas intention was it to either see Sony (consoles) or Nintendo (portables) shine more. There's GBC+GBA+3DS+GG too plus pretty likely some more I may forget.
Do you have other graphs? Like one with only home consoles and another with only portables?
Nintendo is doomedSwitch : 89.04M LTD (30/06/21)
Hardware Q1 - 4.45M (-21.7% YoY)
Are you saying switch is 3rd party console, like Playstation?Taking sides isn’t the point here, fortunately.
Also, Nintendo handhelds were always third party galore, and they’re a huge share of those 800 million consoles.
Pandemic effects. Every one is getting that.
No, because home PS consoles have longer legs than modern Nintendo home consoles and portables. In a couple of years or so Nintendo will release its successor, and a couple of years or so later Nintendo will discontinue Switch. Can switch get close or even pass PS2? It's going to need legs to do it.
Ok thanks. After asking for it, I wonder where Switch should be included since it's a hybrid. But since it's both things, I assume it's fair to include it in both groups as that era user I assume did.No graphs and shamelessly stolen from era:
If only viewing from "Home Console"
Nintendo has sold: 369.91M
Sony has sold: 471.29M
If viewing only from "Portable/Handheld Console"
Nintendo has sold: 519.2M
Sony has Sold: 90-97M
No, my idea was to highlight that the OP is wrong because Nintendo sold less than half of the consoles mentioned in the title, and that the big difference comes from portables being included there to make it look better for Nintendo, since they almost always had the handheld monopoly.I meant all GB and DS variants and didn't mention GG, Wonderswan, Neo Geo Pocket and so on, because i think Yurikas intention was it to either see Sony (consoles) or Nintendo (portables) shine more.
Not only due to the pandemic, it also was the peak of the sales curve that all consoles and portables have: they start with slow yearly sales and start growing until they peak and then after that they keep decreasing yearly sales until reaching almost zero and get discontinued.Pandemic effects. Every one is getting that.
Nintendo sold alot in 2020, due to pandemic.
Good for them. Sony is still very impressive, having been in the market for 12 years less than Nintendo and 6 more than XBox.
Now to wait for the goalposts moving.
Are you saying switch is 3rd party console, like Playstation?
The main reason people got Nintendo handheld was their Mario, Pokémon, Zelda, since those were the ones who sold the console.
Playstation had resident evil, metal gear solid, persona, guilty gear, and all those fighting games.
Then i guessed right, you just wanted to see Sony on top. A console is a console, not matter if it's portable or not.No, my idea was to highlight that the OP is wrong because Nintendo sold less than half of the consoles mentioned in the title, and that the big difference comes from portables being included there to make it look better for Nintendo, since they almost always had the handheld monopoly.
Wasn’t that just a controller add-on? I’m not sure it’s a fair comparisonI would have never imagined that Switch would be such a beast after failure called WiiU
impressive since there's been some flops where as the Playstation is pretty much been consistent hits. lowest points of Playstation was probably early PS3 gen. as hard as sony tries they can't touch nintendo. maybe if nintendo fuck up another couple consoles sony might have a chance of being in their shadow.
It was the way things tend to go in the Nintendo sales success threads, not specific to this particular discussion.Yes, clearly paranoia, as you are the first one to say something regarding a "bad quarter". I also don't see any "they must be doomed" posts, like we've seen in the Sony/MS threads.
/OT
Good job Nintendo! I must admit, I didn't find much to play on the Switch lately (am not a big MH fan), but I just got the Ace Attorney game for it and am looking forward to the games coming out later this year.
Yep, the numbers include NES, SNES and GameBoy data so a far higher number of "consoles".To everyone praising Sony:
1. This is a Nintendo thread, you can celebrate Sony accomplishments in the multiple Sony thread in this same forum
2. Did you not read where it says that from the moment Sony entered the videogame business Nintendo has increased its lead over them on total number of consoles sold?
Sony can't beat Nintendo, Nintendo can beat Nintendo. But i don't think we will ever see a flop console from Nintendo.impressive since there's been some flops where as the Playstation is pretty much been consistent hits. lowest points of Playstation was probably early PS3 gen. as hard as sony tries they can't touch nintendo. maybe if nintendo fuck up another couple consoles sony might have a chance of being in their shadow.
A fact with no context whatsoever, and a sales feat only two consoles have managed before it, 5 million consoles in that specific quarter is very unlikely, and only the DS and Wii have managed it before the Switch, the combination of Animal Crossing and the pandemic helped, but still Nintendo managed to sell 4.45 million consoles that period, which is still an awesome result that no other non Nintendo console has managed.
That's a whole lotta consoles. What's interesting is both Nintendo and Sony are averaging 21mil consoles sold per year since their inception.
All of this because the poster posted a Switch fact in a Switch thread? Yet you're the one crying about and mentioning Sony and not the poster? What did Sony do to you
But contrary of Sony consoles, Nintendo ones keep working after all these years. PS1 dead. PS2 dead. PS3 ylod dead. People have to buy another and inflate the sales number for Sony...Good for them. Sony is still very impressive, having been in the market for 12 years less than Nintendo and 6 more than XBox.
Now to wait for the goalposts moving.
But 3DS did pretty well.I would have never imagined that Switch would be such a beast after failure called WiiU
