[NEXT LEVEL lames™] ResetEra sold to M.O.B.A. Network for USD$4.55 million

Made a crappy phPBB forum once ... once.
So I reached out to Moba a few days ago and haven't heard back. Although the timing of Moba reaching out occurred after my email. I'm not saying this caused Moba to reach out to the Era team but nonetheless, the timing is coincidence.

I am dropping a screenshot of the mail I sent to Moba. I do believe we need to apply pressure to Moba to take down the harmful and disgusting rhetoric Era posts in relation to those they disagree with. If that fails, at the very least, I will be reaching out to companies that put ads on Era and link them directly to the hateful content and ask them if their brands values align with what Era allows on their site.

That is pretty awesome to be fair and gets across the main concerns. Fingers crossed.

The TLDR:

That poster thinks starting a new site is the best move & make it community owned.

Key takeaway, which will most likely be a similar trajectory for Era:
The owner of what was a community site had sold it to a corporation, in this case, an online gaming news site. They made promises to not change anything, and the admins, not wanting to disrupt the owner's deal, encouraged us to wait and see how it turns out. The changes came slowly over time. We were limited in what topics we could discuss, limited in what games we could criticize, etc. It got pretty bad, but there was never any breaking point. Our time to organize was when the sale was announced, not the fifth time they banned a long-time community member for criticizing their corporate decrees. How did this one end? AOL acquired the gaming news site, and promptly deleted the forum without a second thought. They bought it for the articles. Years and years of posts, gone forever, with no backup. Some parts of the community managed to re-organize on another site, but it would have been a lot more successful if we had done so right away instead of waiting for everyone to scatter into the internet wind.

Yes, I'm sure everything's going to be perfect when *no individual is in charge*. Also those *no individuals* will certainly not abuse their power or do shit like this. Because as well know *organizations dedicated to acting on the community's behalf will NEVER act outside of it. How could it? It's not like those would still be people.....

"I would hate to see the Moba Network name tarnished because of the users and mods of Resetera"

hehehe

But.. this time it will work! Socialism 101.
Well, they just didn't have such virtuos people like the users of Resetera. I mean its not like they cheat and manipulate on the daily. And have you seen their bonds of trust? I mean they would never throw their friends to the wolves the first sign of trouble.

Resetera community is paradise. It was the corrupt regime all along.

If they really want to make another forum then the very first step they need to do is exclude every single one of the staff team at era. Well, at least don’t make them staff again.

Maybe there’s one of them that aren‘t a piece of shit but by association and letting others run rampant, they’re responsible as well.

Every single one of the splinter forums is low key looking for a boost in membership out of this and a payday after 4 years. I read someones comment that you needed 4 years of accounts in order to sell a company and almost to the day +/- that's when Resetera was sold.

Its funny, do these people think about the "moral character" of the owner of every product they buy, every food they consume, every bit of entertainment they enjoy?
Its pathological.

Watched a really good interview with historian Tim Stanley the other day where he posited that the puritanical mentality of wokists is highly reminiscent of the historic phenomenon of Calvinist "Visible Sainthood". It's bookmarked in the video (34:40), but its worth watching from a bit before to get a fuller context.

Actually watch the whole thing; Triggernometry doing good work as usual.

Yeah, but they're also famous for overreacting there. That's no doubt the strategy.

They could easily make a big deal out of something insignificant. But most admins and mods should be involved.

For those that didn't read his other very long post above, this guy bought Something Awful last year.
somethingawful Had a very similar (what if?) timeline to gaf in terms of what happened …but evilore told them to fuck off

the site got taken over by woke/trans/mentally unstable admins..they began to impose a rule over the site and shutting off the non left leaning sides of the forum or the parts that actually had freewill

the owner lowtax was going through a nasty divorce and was a pill head from a back injury..there were accusations of domestic abuse thrown around and the admins of his own site turned against him

I didn’t catch the next part but I’m guessing he took a buy out offer from a member to fund his lawyers/drug addiction

lowtax lasted a short period and was banned from his own site..this site was a tentplole on the internet from the 90s for internet comedy and photoshop funny’s and had a huge userbase on the forum from which you had to pay entry and would generate a huge revenue

he got paid 250k apparently…he now does twitch streams pulling in a fraction of an audience he used to have and his old site is ran by the same types of people that run resetera now

if resetera implodes again that’s the site they will migrate too

Thanks, I love it. There's been a few people who thought the post was well thought-out and written (I agree); it will be interesting to see how they react to the fact that a user who argued in-depth and in good faith in favor of leaving REEEE and creating a new community ASAP just got banned for supposedly being an alt-account. It really gives their statement:

Also I expect that discussing leaving for an offsite will be one of the first things cracked down on.

an unexpected irony.

It's hilarious.

Honestly, how much of a fucking loser have you got to be to stick around anymore on ResetEra? How desperate do you have to be to stay on an internet gaming forum that clearly hates you? That answers any criticism, or moving away from the accepted company line whatsoever, with an immediate ban?

It's incredible the mods know they can get away with it without a mass exodus. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

he wants to start a new ResetERA from scratch, now without owners! all profits go to the community, no evil profit driven corporations pushing those nasty ads and no morally dubious leaders telling them what to do anymore. just awesome videogame discussion all day holding hands with zero ads 😎
The catch is… it is required to have an owner to register the domain and buy/pay the host server.

One guy or company (in that case the trouble is even bigger) needs to own everything.

In any case that owner/company can end doing what Cerium did.

So that is part of what the Ree mods strategy is to deal with those good posts, besides ignore them. Immediate telling anyone that wants to discuss it that "people have moved on". Try to make all opposing posts appear equal with an emotionally appealing fallacy and gaslighting.
Manipulative douchery. No surprise the strategy flows very comfortably and naturally from Royalan.

It does play to the strengths of these mods in general so it makes sense for them to do it that way since defamation and silencing are among their primary weapons.

Their overblown sense of self-worth combined with how low they think of others is further confirmed that they think those "jokes" don't appear inorganic and obviously contrived by the mods from their hours of collaboration behind the scenes.

Maybe someone naturally poking in every few hours to offer their position on the sale by itself isn't an indicator on a outrage farm like Ree. Their conniving reaction to it is.
