There's no mention of VRR in the video...
Yes… there is… he even talks about the rumored VRR patch lol

Where did they say that, link us then :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Someone's been caught with their pants down now uh oh.
Do you work and find yourself.

You won't link it because you can't.
Spreading misinformation deliberately is against forum rules.
Don’t act like a dumbo.
You were in the thread happily posting that the patch will come to add VRR.
Just stop to pretend lol

Seeing Sony 2021 TV's just got the VRR update, PS5 VRR update is imminent.

I would assume it will come when PS5 comes out of beta.
It took about a month and half to come out of the last beta.
That would put this beta to end in the first week of spring, which starts March 20th.

Sony usually drop PS5 system updates between Tuesday - Thursday. This would put the update to drop around 22nd - 24th.

This is just my speculation because I can't wait for the VRR console war invading every video game analysis thread to end. Less than 3 weeks before it all ends.

At this rate, I'm also starting to lean that the PS5's DP -> HDMI bridge cannot do VRR.
It's in their oficial blog that the hardware supports VRR. The only reasonable (although dumb af) reason for thios delay is their TV's didn't have the support. Sony being Sony.

"Does PS5 support VRR?
PS5 hardware supports Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) through HDMI 2.1. After a future system software update, PS5 owners will be able to use the VRR feature of compatible TVs when playing games that support VRR."

So I looked for the DL2 written article:

Only mention about VRR is:
There are reports of a variable refresh rate mode exclusive to Series X that unlocks the frame-rate on 120Hz screens but unfortunately, this was not functioning during the review period. It should be available soon and we'll report back on how well it functions.

Like the video, 0 mention on VRR not working in Dying Light 2. Especially because they found 0 dropped frames on both console.
"The gang creating narratives" Sure lad, sure.

They'll probably do another beta for VRR. Seems like a big update to me.

A patch to unlock the framerate is not the same as VRR not working, you know this.

Thai you for doing the work.
So that ends the discussion… DF said it didn’t have VRR like I said.

ethomaz ethomaz check out the bold.

Is Sony confirming VRR needs to be implemented on a game by game basis?

Xbox did had a backward compatibility program. Was that to implement VRR into older games?

This guy also says VRR needs to be implemented in a game by game basis.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
On topic if ALLM has arrived I can't see any reason why VRR shouldn't come with it, the update should be imminent.
Which is great news.

I can't find any conceivable reason why PS5 didn't support VRR since launch other than Sony's hubris of not letting anyone use it unless they get it working on their own TV's first. It's an HDMI 2.1 supported standard, it should have come in day 1. It's not like they had to go out of their way to add Freesync support like Xbox had to before.

Weird if that's the case.

I don't know... it depends how VRR is implemented.
If it needs at game by game... old games will need to be patched.
New games has no difference because it will be build with the new SDK so dev could choose to enable or disable it before launch.

Great news indeed.
No more VRR spamming from you in every thread.

Sony has less than 10% market share in the TV market (and that’s in value, it’s even worse in units sold) and Samsung has been eating their lunch for 15 years in this segment.

I can see why they would see as bad press to offer on PS5 a feature that would work on LG models from 2019 and not on the Sony flagship TVs.

ethomaz ethomaz no sure you understand what VRR is, it's not something that a game developer has to enable.
That is not what the video Loxus posted is speculating about.
And it depends how Sony implement VRR... it is software and can be implemented in different ways... and it can be in the SDK to developer enable/disable it.

Yup, they slacking because they lackin'
(but now they sorted their VRR).

Sosokrates

Report me if I continue to console war
Fps comparisons are going to be less meaningful when VRR is prevalent.

Is a 10% difference in fps even perceptible with VRR?

No, I think the last 2 pages have been a pretty clear indication he doesn't know what VRR is or how it works.

That's not how it works. They still haven't put out that future system update in that 2020 article either.

Xbox did had a backward compatibility program. Was that to implement VRR into older games?

Again, not how it works.

I don't know who that guy is, but VRR is a hardware level feature and games can optionally add chceks to unlock frame rate if a compatible displays is detected.

Like Dying Light 2 and Flight Simulator.

Most modern VRR displays can do VRR up to 45hz, it'll be great from the gamers point of view.

Can we just let the MS people have a win for now? Please? Every day I see this thread near top and get excited by possibility they finally added it. And every day just same arguments. It’s like Groundhog Day.

Please don't blame "MS People" for one of your own spreading rampant misinformation over the last few pages :messenger_tears_of_joy:

If you go from 60 to 54 fps the frame time increases by 1.85 millisecond so you probably wouldn’t notice it.

It will actually level the playing field almost entirely as it’s unlikely the difference between consoles will be higher than 5-10%.

But then what about Dolby Vision

What the hell is VRR? What do I have to buy now?

VRR is a standard where your display can change it's refresh rate on the fly to match the game's refresh rate to avoid the stutter, judder and mismatch in response that can happen from frame rate drops to a certain extent. It also has the added benefit of completely removing any screen tearing.

This DF video is a little old now but it still covers what you need to know:

-

You need a compatible TV or monitor which supports VRR.

When this drop's on ps5 we need a list of games it will benefit.

Any games which have screen tearing (eg Cyberpunk) or drops between 45~60 will be the ones that benefit most.

VRR is not hardware level feature.
It is software implemented.

That is why old GPUs and Monitors can support it even years after launch.
Or Sony is striving to code the VRR in PS5 and TVs.
The fact you implement VRR via firmware updates just tell you what it is.

There are a hardware minimum requirement like a TV Panel and components needs to match a criteria or the output device needs to have determined minimum bandwidth to VRR to be implemented via software... but there is no hardware part specificity for VRR.

Which products support AMD FreeSync™ technology?

To take advantage of the benefits of AMD FreeSync™ technology, users require: a monitor, TV, or laptop that supports AMD FreeSync™ technology, a FreeSync compatible APU or GPU, and the latest graphics driver. Xbox One™ X and Xbox One™ S users can also enjoy the benefits of AMD FreeSync™ technology.4
Compatible GPUs include all AMD Radeon™ graphics cards beginning with Radeon™ RX 200 Series, released in 2013, and all newer Radeon consumer graphics products that use GCN 2.0 architecture and later. Other GPUs, such as the Nvidia GeForce 10 series and newer, that support DisplayPort Adaptive-Sync, are also expected to work with AMD FreeSync Technology; please check with your GPU manufacturer.
Compatible desktop APUs include Ryzen™ APUs. The motherboard must have a DisplayPort or HDMI connection.

It's hardware. GPU and TV/monitor.
It's being disabled by software.

Old monitors which don't have VRR support can not use the feature .. What are you even talking about ....

You can't just find a 20 year old CRT and stick it on a PS5 or Xbox and expect it to have VRR support.

The fact that Sony has to enable the feature via a firmware update is a complete cock-up on Sony's part. No one elses.
