Journalist Johnny Harris runs through the history of Julian Assange's work with WikiLeaks, some of their most notable leaks and the public's reaction, and shares his concerns on the ramifications of criminally charging Julian Assange.
Julian Assange has a long, complicated past. But regardless of what you think of him and what he did, you should care about what happens to him. Here’s why.
I've got this concern that no one's gonna give a fuck about Julian Assange until after someone finally makes a great movie about him.

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
Didn't he rape someone or something?

The man is a clown, but what has happened around him to intimidate other whistleblowers and the way he is treated is Putin level of oppression.

That’s kinda funny considering he’s a Putin puppet running an FSB front.
Doset matter really. Its shit that UK, US, Norway had to construct bullshit accusations to keep him under pressure - locked in an embassy (stepping out the door was basically his death sentence), and now being held in (needlessly) isolation in a UK prison.

Quite similar to how Navalny has been made a living warning sign.

The whole thing of having to hold onto the true faith of Assange being above the law gives me bad vibes. Operations such as the Panama Papers leaks showed up wikileaks for being an amateurish operation with baggage of dubious political ideology that wasn't necessary.

Assange matters and is an uncomfortable reminder of how easily one can be stripped of basic human rights an declared persona non grata by the establishment media for telling the truth. Don't care where he got the information from, everything Assange released was nothing but the cold, hard factual truth. The real crime is that Assange went behind bars and not the corrupt assholes that he exposed.

The fact that media outlets such as WP are lamenting Assange for not ALSO releasing dirt on the political opposition, should tell you more than enough about the true reasons why they went after him. He is by any means of definition a political prisoner that will likely never get the chance to a fair trial. If that doesn't at the very least concern you about the true state of human rights protection in the West, then you've got no right to complain about China, Russia and any other sh*thole stomping down on individual rights.

'Tis a 32-minute video. Can we get the "here's why" you should give a fuck part in a sentence or two?

It is dangerous because a citizen journalist without any credentials from Australia is not granted the same protection from prosecution in US law as a US Journalist. A certain controversial US president played fast and loose with the US Constitution to press espionage charges on him. I get this clear summary because I read wikipedia and totally ignored the video.
