If Indiana Jones is multi-platform, then JFC, what the hell is Phil Spencer and Microsoft doing? They own Bethesda and yet, their competitor gets their games first while Xbox fans have to wait. Gee, there's something new. Waiting. SMH.

I like Phil Spencer but he needs to stop giving a shit about the current competition and I don't care about the Apple's or Amazon's of the world because as of right now, they're nothing. Sony and Nintendo are the competition and as an Xbox fan and someone who decided on having Series X as their primary console for various reasons, if you're not giving me exclusive games then why the fuck do I need your console and more importantly, why do I need to spend money in your eco-system if I can play your shit on PlayStation?

Seriously, I hate this nice bullshit. No wonder Xbox has been 3rd place three generations in a row because they don't have that killer instinct mentality to be #1. SMH.

And yet Sony seems to be able to manage multi year long deals with giant companies including Disney for exclusivity.

News of multi year deals for Sony going back a long way make Microsoft look like a bunch of Simps.
COD, Bethesda, Disney, I would even add Double Fine though I know the reasons there.
It has to do with Sony having 3 generation of consoles.
Also MS had marketing for big games during x360.
These marketing deals usually goes to the console who have the majority of gamers. Ps4 simply was more attractive than Xbox one, hence those marketing deals.
Also, region popularity plays a key important. PS had fifa marketing because of them dominating Europe.

It seems the Simping of Microsoft itself stops them from Negotiating contracts
Just Rich assholes, who have no clue about gaming. They want without heavily investing on their 1st party for 2 gen. I cant make this up.

Looking forward to playing this Uncharted clone.
Isn't Uncharted a clone for Indiana?

I can't comment on youngblood as the reviews did not compel me to play it. But I understand why they try to do with the Nazis in 2 and it has nothing to do about sympathizing, it is the other way around.

In fact I remember before the 2nd game got released, there was noise about how the game was "very hard on Nazis" and that scene with Reagan. They made a Tweet and doubled down on that attitude.

If anything, they don't want to create chance for some people where they end up idolizing bad role models. In this case, the Nazis.

Right.....my point was these things usually go over the top out of fear especially in today's cancel culture.

Isn't Uncharted a clone for Indiana?

Definitely inspired heavily by the Indiana Jones movies, but there hasn't been an Indiana Jones video game like Uncharted.

It's interesting to witness how most games from both Bethesda and Activision in the future will be everywhere anyway and some are timed exclusive on PlayStation or at least their marketing deals are there.

The outrageous responses for these two acquisitions were so overblown in hindsight...

MS won't take full advantage of both of these publishers before 2025 at this point...I mean, we're even getting rumors of a call of duty exclusively on VR2...
Yeah in between Deathloop, Ghostwire Tokyo, CoD early access for the next three or four years and VR, and Indiana Jones being multiplatform they're really not getting a lot from these deals.

They will be hoping that Starfield will be coming before the second half of next year otherwise it's more wasted opportunity.

He says he heard a year ago that it wasn't an exclusive but something could've changed by now but he doesn't know, but he also said it's coming to Game Pass day one. I think that's what matters most to Xbox fans anyway regardless of it being exclusive or not.

They bought Zenimax last year and are honoring all existing deals. They don't even own CoD yet. Business isn't a sprint. You'll see what they're getting from these deals in the coming years :messenger_smiling_with_eyes: (aside from a bunch of revenue and profit that will kick in immediately, of course)

Did you think they would remove an already 3rd party game that was available on Vita, PS3 and PS4? Weird thing to give them credit for but OK.

On 15 September 2014, Microsoft announced a $2.5 billion deal to buy Mojang, along with the ownership of the Minecraft intellectual property. The deal was suggested by Persson when he posted a tweet asking a corporation to buy his share of the game after receiving criticism for enforcing terms in the game's end user license agreement (EULA), which had been present in the EULA in the prior three years.According to Persson, Mojang CEO Carl Manneh received a call from a Microsoft executive shortly after the tweet, asking if Persson was serious about a deal. Mojang was also approached by other companies including Activision Blizzard and Electronic Arts. The deal with Microsoft was arbitrated on 6 November 2014, and led to Persson becoming one of Forbes' "World's Billionaires".
Lol 🤣 you do realize that's one example. Ori, CoD, etc could all be exclusive. They could have never done day one release with PC. It's only Nintendo and Sony that are the last ones holding on. Weird you try to call my post out, but fail to do it for either the red or blue corporations? Especially as you also jumped on the bandwagon of replies, without understanding the context.

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
Exactly what Ybarra always told me that they (Xbox) didn't buy Bethesda and the likes to make them exclusives because it limited their money making potential

But he said that was met with strong opposition by certain others at Xbox
This is interesting.....

Your first sentence should be obvious to anyone that tries to look at all this from a business point of view.

MS never made Office Mobile exclusive to Windows Mobile, WP phones. I questioned it at the time, but at the end of the day...money talks.

Hell, Skype was discontinued on their own platform before Android or iOS.

I kind of always expected that. Wouldn’t be surprised if it looks and runs better on XSX, but that’s about it.

What made people think this would be an exclusive? This was announced not too long after MS aquired them, so of course the deal was negotiated prior to MS being in the picture.

This game should most definitely be an exclusive though. Just of the current gen variety.

Mike was the only true gamer Xbox had and wasn't into petty console warring as he actually preferred PC

Others there are 100% about the console wars though even when they claim they aren't

How could it be exclusive if it was already multiplat? It's one silly example.

microsoft doesn't own the ip. they have no authority on the matter

That’s not the reason. Sony doesn’t own Spiderman, for example. You can have exclusivity with IP you don’t own.

It all depends on the deal signed, and it seems like this was inked before the Microsoft purchased.

Exactly. Look at Minecraft and other's MS games released on switch and PlayStation. They don't care what you play their games on, which I see as not only consumer friendly, but a smart decision from a business perspective. Either way, they are benefiting from your money vs only being able to play this game on this specific hardware.

The vast majority of games they’ll show at their showcase in 2 weeks - including Starfield - will be exclusive to Xbox.

They’ll push xCloud as their “you can play anywhere, on any device” play.

Not XBox exclusive doesn't necessarily mean it'll be on PS5 (ie. Ori). XBox + PC technically wouldn't be XBox-exclusive either. So he needs to clarify if he meant the game is on more than just Xbox + PC.

Don't know. They own spiderman ps4.
And what's got to do with anything?
They bought the developer with a contract to develop a multiplat game. They have no saying at all. If Sony agree with Disney to make wolverine exclusive that's all there is
Do we have details on that contract? I don't think we do. So we don't know where, if anywhere, they're obligated to release the game. I assumed it would come to ps just because the deal was inked before the ms acquisition but we don't KNOW. Speculation is all it is.

In the future? Which games in the future? Not elder scrolls or starfield as far as we know. So that's 1 to 2. NOT a majority. But glad you're a fan of Bethesda! You should buy an Xbox to enjoy ALL of their games then!
If you want to nitpick you can add Deathloop and ghostwire...Which if we add Indiana jones then it is 3 to 2....

I'm almost sure Sony owns the spiderman ps4 trademark. Someone correct if I'm wrong. The other part you correct. But as it stands Disney call the shots

No. Read his statement. He said Bethesda games in the future are coming to ps5. Something in the past can't be in the future. Lol. Not that hard to understand.

In the future all Bethesda games will be on Xbox, including deathloop and ghost wire. That statement works as a fact; the other poster's statement does not.

It would be weird to have Spiderman ps4 trademarked by someoe else but they don't have IP for games , they do for movies though.

He said majority but maybe he is just talking about the statement for Spencer saying that IP that were multiplatform would remain multiplat...That is something we'll see in the future but right now you and him are speculating about unannounced bethesda games.

why do you care if the game is exclusive or not?

let people play the game wherever they want

I think he said that maybe in the future there will be some under some contractual obligations etc.
I mean since the acquisition they have released - aside Ghostwire and Deathloop - Quake remaster, Skyrim Anniversary Editiion and now potentially Indiana Jones.

Spider-man is a weird license. I remember Hoeg Law mentioned that it was a crazy license related with bunch of limits regarding games, toys there and there.
But roughly Spiderman movie IP is owned by Sony, while Spiderman gaming IP is owned by Disney.

I mean the deal was made before the acquisition. Which is more likely that that's the case. If was a deal made today yeah. I eouldnt have absolutely doubt it would have been xbox exclusive

Isn't that what he said - from 2025. To what extent remains to be seen. Revenue shoould get a boost, who knows about the size of the impact on profit, it wont be revealed.

I don’t think MS gives a shit about keeping games off PS
Yeah it’s good money. We’ll see what they show at the June event though.
Meanwhile Sony is super aggressive, even nicked a couple Bethesda exclusives, and the COD marketing and PSVR2 exclusivity will seem weird if MS buys Activision Blizzard. Sony is playing a different ballgame for sure.
