Just a side note, but what happened to the "cringe" tag? Anyways, as much as I loathe making threads out of tweets, I thought this was something worth discussing.

So what say you GAF? Is Sweeney and the gang saving us valuable time by contacting our banks to get updated payment info, or does this cross the line a little? Is the bank mostly at fault for giving out the info?

Is that legal? Not just the bank (US law must be quite shitty on that front), but Epic updating the info automatically without the users consent.

Rise up against EGS!

This is a call to arms!

The Steam Rebellion has begun!
Doesn't have shit to do with Steam tho, but now that we're getting into "war", what about those other small stores that sell Steam and other PC stores games? They are also competing and all EGS shit also affect them, Steam is by far the less harmed lol

What a shitty bank.
Dude, one time my bank GAVE OUT my direct deposit information to ANOTHER CUSTOMER and I was being charged for YMCA fees that I'd never went to. When I told the bank about it, the fucking pig manager laughed, when I said "they're going to contact you to help remove my account from their system, he laughed and said "this is on them now". What had originally happened was at BMO at least 5-10 years ago the teller has to MANUALLY ENTER the account number onto a direct deposit form, they claim that it was an "ACCIDENT" but what are the odds that you entered a RANDOM number on that form and it was actually someone else's account number?

So last year I got charged again, so I had to deal with the morons at BMO again, and I told them they were supposed to tell YMCA to remove EVERY TRACE of my account number from their files and systems, BMO this time claimed that it was "an old piece of paper that was used".

FUCK BANK OF MONTREAL.

Also more shit about them, if you use Edge Chrome and login with your credentials it gives you a special BMO 404 page, if you do the same seconds later with another browser it gives you your account information. For a long time going there on Edge Chrome yielded a page that said "Use Chrome, Safari or Firefox" showing just how fucking stupid their tech support is, that they don't even know that Edge Chrome IS CHROME. Also if there's a fucking holiday in Quebec you get a reminder message on your account that "it's a holiday in Quebec account balances might be incorrect this weekend".

So banks can get worse, but probably not worse than Bank of Montreal Canada.

I mean, it's probably/maybe in the terms and conditions that no one reads that they can do this.... but its still a little weird
They're designed to not be read tho, can't blame people on this, apart from the fact that TOS are only present AFTER one purchased a product or installed the software and not before, which IMO should invalidate them.

Are even governments allowed to get this information? Seems like too personal, wouldn't they just asked for things like purchases list and whatnot from a person in case of judicial investigation? Creepy fuckers can F themselves, not getting shit on their store (that which is "only a launcher on windows" lol)

They kept an old card on file as to not get charged?

I've never once put a payment method on my Epic account and I have over 214 games in my library. Some people just don't know how to do it I guess?

This sounds like some sort of automated system from her bank.
I doubt Jenny from the Epic accounting department spends her days calling the bank of every user to ask if they have updated their credit card information.

Also I don't know why you'd leave any sort of payment information on your account if you don't trust the company. Registering a payment method isn't mandatory on Epic and removing it takes literally 3 clicks.

What on earth is a dead name?

It's the previous name of a trans person before transitioning

Gonna need some receipts.
Yup.

Name and shame the bank not Epic.
Ive never had a company auto update my payment details cuz I use a real bank that wouldnt just give out my new card details willy nilly.

P.S Im calling bullshit on this story.
Epic called this one customers bank to update the billing information?
Called, as in on the phone.....nada.
Bullshit.

I bet its this shit and the customer is just stupid:

Sounds more like he got a new card with a new expiration date, which most banks will update automatically on sites for you now, and this dipshit forgot to really remove it from his Epic account and decided to create drama on Twitter for clout.
Exactly. People are so quick to outrage. It'a usually an automatic thing with your bank.

Yeah when I got an updated card almost every major website I use it on updates the expiration for me.

Guy/Girl got his/her name changed. Bank contacts EGS to update name on payment details for old name. EGS notifies guy/girl that it's been updated. Guy/girl takes to twitter.

The bank contacted epic.

This is basic stuff for credit cards when the card is updated retailers get notified and can update the stored info automatically.

Where the hell is this person getting Epic contacted the bank? This is automated backend stuff. Epic didn’t contact anyone the bank sent a new expiration date to them and they updated it just like Amazon.com and a million other retailers do.

Like did they read the first damn line in the email? Lol

Because they claim they don't store their credit card number, which is obviously BS. So they played themselves.

No place have ever update my cardinfo (new card = cardnumber + exp date), is this new, as in a 2020-2022 thing?

Yea, relatively new. It doesn't change the card number. Just the updated expiration date.
Then it shouldn't work since new card invalidates old card and since new card is new cardnumber and exp date not just same cardnumber with new exp date should it not?

That's not what the email says. It says cardnumber OR exp date. All the bank did updated was the exp date on the doofus' card that they forgot to remove from the system and they shit their pants Tweeting about it and owning themselves by being a fucking dumbass.
