The Growlanser battle system alone has me excited for this game, everything else looks kinda meh-ish

This continues to look pretty interesting.
The fact battles seem to be in real time definitely gives it a different vibe than Triangle Strategy and other similar games. Hopefully the plot is as good as Triangle too.

I know Square Enix naming conventions have been joked about and criticized in the past, but I feel that "The Diofield Chronicle" may actually affect the sales of this title. 358/2 Days at least had "Kingdom Hearts" in the title so you kind of knew what you where getting into. And with "Octopath Traveler" you can easily deduce that it has something to do with eight paths, but what is a "Diofield"?

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
That's actually why I'm hoping Square doesn't mess up the Front Mission Remake, I'm crossing my fingers.

Thanks for this, I hadn't heard anything about it.

From Amazon’s description:
The era of myths gives way to an era of great turmoil…The world of men is mired by an age of war which rages for year on end. A band of elite mercenaries calling themselves Blue Fox arise amidst the flames and the chaos, their fates and valiant deeds to be sung of in ages yet to come. But when all is said and done, will the name "Blue Fox" come to signify hope or darkest tragedy?

It’s not a lot to go off of. It has that cool Square look/feel to it. I’m hoping it’s good.

The CE looks interesting. That name makes me laugh.

Sounds good.
If the story is as good as Triangle Strategy (and it's not some 90 hours bloatfest) I'm definitely in

Does triangle story have a good story like FFT? I was looking into it, but I've heard the dialogue can last 1-2 hours before any actual gameplay. That automatically turned me off...no matter how good a story is, that's pretty excessive.

Looking forward to seeing more from Diofield. Looks interesting so far, but we'll see.

Triangle Strategy story is good, its along the lines of Tactics Ogre and FFT but its not heavy on fantasy elements.

But yeah, if you ain’t down for long cutscenes its probably not for you, the game is half visual novel, in fact I’d say its like 70/30 visual novel/game

Early impressions from those who received the quite lengthy demo seem to be quite positive, might turn out to be a surprise hit of this year.

Triangle Strategy, Live a Live remaster and this in the same year... SE finally starting to regularly put out games that appeal to my tastes again? One can hope...

Yeah the story is great but there is indeed a lot of it, it's a very dialog heavy game so if you don't want to sit through lengthy and frequent conversations it might not be for you.
The beginning is the worst part though, I think later on it gets into a decent flow of combat and story.

But I really enjoyed it. It felt a bit more grounded and mature than the never ending stream of anime cliches we get in most JRPG's these days. It also has an interesting decision making mechanic with some really tough choices that actually branch out the story in pretty significant ways.

I'm only about 5 hours in thus far, but I am actually quite enjoying the story and dialogue. My one criticism I think would be that it introduces A LOT of characters early on in a short space of time and keeping track of who's who can be a bit overwhelming. It does however keep a record of all that you have encountered that you can reference if you start getting lost. I'm playing with Japanese VA, as I find it adds a more serious tone to these games, that the usual cheesey English VA tends to ruin based on previous VA translations I've played in the past.

I'm playing on hard mode and battles have been challenging but fair, had to redo a couple that made me have to rethink my strategy's which I enjoy tinkering with, others that played on normal said it was too easy and that would quickly kill any interest in the combat for me. Something to keep in mind if you have a good amount of experience with these tactical games.

On one hand the Growlanser vibes have me super excited. But visually the game is ugly as hell and just ruins it for me. I've already preordered a bunch of upcoming JRPGs and think I'll sit this one out for now.

“Diofield“ sounds so much like blasphemy in Italian, I kinda wish JRPGs had an actual audience around these parts. 20 years ago a title like this would’ve been early Christmas for our general press, even if nobody could even spell the title correctly, let alone know what the fuck the game could be about.
