Characters designs and models looks a bit Ehhh after RE2 remake, actually make me appreciate the latest even more.

May still give it a shot, it still looks ok enough i guess, and games of this genre are quite rare. The only one i played was 4 on PS1 and it was pretty ok on its own.

The age where no IP can die. Seriously, is anyone beyond a small percentage of old people (like the ones on this forum) interested in the slightest about Alone in the Dark? The first game was groundbreaking, back in 1990, and I remember playing it back then. The werewolf jumping outside the window and then jumping in the window scared the shit out of me as a kid. But 2 and 3 were not good. The Playstation/Dreamcast one ... I don't know, I never played it. I did play the PS3 Inferno one, and it is one of my all time favorite awful games. Then the IP died out, since Inferno performed so badly, and for good reason.
All this to say, I don't understand the interest in reviving the AITD IP. I am assuming this won't be a sequel, it will just be a soft reboot with some similar gameplay choices to make you think you are supposed to be playing a game in the AITD universe. Choose between a male or female main character, VooDoo/Lovecraft horror trappings, 1920's era setting. It isn't like a sequel to AITD, so why bother using the name, other than to just have the IP/already inbedded marketing for old ass gamers.
Sorry for the rant, but I would rather large companies invest money into making new stuff, and not just some soft reboot of an old (as dirt) IP. Make a game in the 1920's with voodoo and lovecraft horror, awesome, just leave the AITD title out of it and branch out into your own thing. ... I need to go check out Sunken City, I heard that was good.

Hopefully, they really lean in on the HP Lovecraft side of things. The original has a weirdness to it.

Especially, when you die. I hope they kept that in the new one.

No mustache though. Disappointed in that.

Very excited for this, especially regarding the lore and story, even though the last one I played was rubbish (New Nightmare).

Well it sure isn't the next trailblazing technical achievement as the original was in the early 90s but it definitely looks competent and easily the most interesting game of the show.

"classic survival horror gameplay" with decent writing, I just hope combat isn't horrible in the long run.

Worst case scenario this could be a B jank retro horror akin to Tormented Souls which I love either way so I'm in.

They should have kept the mustache on Carnby.

so this is Carnby?

yeah that sucks, I always thought he'd be perfect with kind of a Dr. Watson look but ok, still much better than the leather jacket chad edition nonsense from later games.

Really, Carnby in the original game was supposed to be kind of a mess. You get that impression from the intro. He is in massive debt.

Looks more like Evil Within 2 rip off than anything Alone in the Dark related.
Also kinda smells of trash

This series has more or less been a mess after the first one or two, so I watched with no expectations, but it exceeded my expectations, both in general and in feeling meaningfully like something based on the original rather than a new IP with the name slapped on it.

So sure, cautiously optimistic. They have my attention.

What? This looks like it might actually be a straight up remake of the first game, at least in terms of story. It's set in the Derceto mansion, in the 1920s, and stars Edward Carnby at the very least. And there are a number of recognizable locations too.

It looks a hell of a lot more Alone in the Dark than any of the games after the first anyway.

I've played "some" of the first game.... Maybe the story was in the manual because I remember square rooms and funny 1 color zombies.
It's like putting more story to tetris.

The shooting parts seemed quite janky.

Hopefully they can improve it before the launch. Other than that everything else seems good enough for me. I really enjoyed Alone in The Dark The New Nightmare on the ps1, so...

There's a good bit of story to it but the storytelling is uncinematic. A lot of notes left behind and books of lore and things like that. It was very very derivative of Lovecraft.

Very nice that they've kept the period setting, if they've committed to it I think that will help make the game memorable.

Not too late to patch in a nice bushy 'tache for Carnby.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
BTW, anybody notice the effect at 1:07 of the trailer...

It's a next-generation exclusive alright!

(*That might also just be editing, can't be sure the game actually does that?)

Are you talking about the switching between two different 'plains' ? That effect has been done already in some games like the medium etc, but I'm pretty sure a couple of last gen games have also done that.

Yeah, that effect is around (Dishonored did it nicely, and Titanfall 2 had some great dimension tricks it used.) It still ended up being a hallmark of "next-gen" in the absence of radical new technology though; R&C Rift Apart and The Medium* were how a lot of people came to understand "the power of the SSD".

(*Technically I don't think Medium actually even used any rapid-loading systems for its various dimension-crossing effects?)

That game always has 2 different plains of existence rendered at the same time and some later scenarios have the screen rapidly full-screen switching between the two plains from what I recall.

You do realize even though it was panned, that people actually brought Alone in the Dark 2008? Then Infogrames messed up the series afterwards with the Atari name.

Some people are just excited for the fact this new Alone in the Dark game doesn't have Ataris name on it. With competent developers behind its production for the first time since the original trilogy.

so this is Carnby?

No red hair is rather odd given it's a remake.
