4090 is almost here 🥳🥳🥳

As a 4k60 4k120 person its very tempting but my PC is running flawlessly these days with my 3800x and 3080FE. If I see a 4090 EVGA @ 1200 I may pull the trigger and hand my 3080 to my brother who got my 2060.

Considering how greedy Nvidia became, I wouldn't be suprised if they launch the 4090 for 1600-2000 msrp positioning it above 3090 Ti which is moving towards 1200.

Never thought we'd see 4 slot GPUs as a standard practice. MicroATX builders hoping and praying that they have room for a smidgen of airflow around that thing. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I shouldve listened to gaf and skipped buying a 3080 in April. Havent played a single game on it since. Waste of $800.

Seems like a 3080 should be good for quite a while yet. Do you upgrade every time they introduce a new series?

nah, i only build PCs in the tail half of the gen. And still waited almost a year before build a PC with a 2080. Those damn mid gen consoles nearly had me but i wanted that 60 fps.

Decided to buy the 3080 because i skipped an xbox this gen and wanted to play MS first party games on PC. Cyberpunk with RT ran really poorly on my 2080 so figured id hold off and upgrade but couldnt get a 3080 for a year and a half. When they first became available i got antsy and bought it despite gaf telling me DONT DO IT! I figured i couldnt beat the bots & scalpers and probably wont get one for another year and a half. What I didnt realize was that bitcoin was the main reason why the GPUs were out of stock and that wont be an issue with the 4000 series launch.

I can still probably sell it to a friend of mine so not a big deal, but im just pissed at myself for not playing ANY games over the summer on my PC. I had Cyberpunk, Elden Rings, Avengers, Metro exodus remaster and Mafia all lined up but didnt feel like playing any of those games.

I have ssupd case and that doesn't fit a 4 slot card. I can put my 3090 but not a 3090ti. So 4090 is out.of the question.

But I recently switched to o11 mini air on my itx motherboard z690 and I have 7 slots opening and ready. ( Well 6 because of 2 fans at the bottom of the case)

So I am ready.

I got a 3080 for MSRP exactly two months after its launch, and I have a 12600k CPU. So I realize I'm probably better off than 90% of the Steam users out there, and don't really need a new 4000-Series GPU. But yeah, of course I wanted a new and shiny GPU. But the supposed power consumption of these new cards mostly killed my interest. With the prices for electricity we have going on right now, I'm actually leaving my PC off most of the time, and playing more and more on my PS5. Now I'm even looking to get some new games for the Switch and play with that instead.

Love how in the new era of high inflation, and energy crisis a company releases a product that consumes ungodly amount of power from the grid.

Probably a dumb question but how much of a percentage of an increase will I be getting jumping from 1160 TI to a 4090 RTX? I heard it's 78% better than a 3090 TI and 90% better than a 3090 so roughly around a 500% or 600% increase in power ? Sorry, I am not a GPU wizard lol. I am sure somewhere here has way more knowledge and understanding than I do when it comes to GPUs technical aspects.

EDIT - Also, is it true the 4090 RTX is the world first GPU in the world to break the 100 tflops milestone? I know the 3090 TI is a flat 40 tflops and the 3090 is 35 tflops.

That's a tough question to answer. GPUs don't scale linearly with terraflops. Node size, bandwidth, per clock improvements and many factors come into play. But by my rough calculations it's about 9000 GameCubes give or take 😸

With watercooling those card don’t take much space this is my 3090

If the 4090 can play Cyberpunk 2077 at 8K(native no DLSS)@120FPS (highly doubtful) with all settings maxed out, I'll give you my 3090.
I already have a 3090,but yeah, I highly doubt we'll see that setup running smoothly. Mostly because of poor optimalization in that specific game though. It would be quite disapointing if the 4090 won't be able to run some new games in that way though. Or maybe we shall wait for the 5000-series in a couple of years to get used to that sort of stuff. Probably. I have no clue. I'm perfectly fine with 1440p and 240hz.

Have you found it to be adequate for 4k (if you play at that resolution)?

The current prices have me very tempted but I'm willing to wait a couple of days to see what the 4xxx series has to offer at a similar price point.
I play mostly on a 1440p 144hz monitor so I try to push my frames as much as possible. For the most part I am happy but if for example I try to max out say CP2077 it struggles to maintain 60fps even with dlss in some areas.

it's 4 slots

4 slot cards is bonkers
I've never cared about GPU sag in my life but is every card going to need an EVGA e-leash now? We're clearly pushing the limits of what air cooling can do...

I just realised RTX 4080 16GB and 12GB are not the same card, Nvidia basically want us to pay 80 class
price for 70 class cards
I agree with you now that I look at the specs. It's really misleading and scummy for nvidia to use the same name (4080) for two products and then the only difference mentioned is the RAM size when in fact the GPU's themselves and the memory bandwidths are very different. That is, if these rumors are actually true.

Can't wait till the 20th where we finally get the official details, this rumor cycle was an unmitigated disaster with all the spec changes...

Not this generation.
The 4090s are near double the size of the 4080.
They have a much larger bus width too.

An AD102 4080Ti would be a better bet than the 4080 but Nvidia really fucked us by putting the 4080 on AD103 when last xx80s were 102s.

This chart is missing 4080.. all I see are specs for 4090, 4070 and 4060 , but with wrong labels above.

Lol guess it's going to be another couple gens before we surpass 24GB max VRAM. Not surprised, since Nvidia increments the VRAM like every 3 generations

According to preliminary information the RTX 4090 is to feature AD102 GPU with 16384 CUDA cores. The card also comes with 24GB of GDDR6X

Why do you think we need more VRAM? DirectStorage is a thing. RTX IO is a thing.

Yeah... how many games is that going to be in?

Considering ray tracing and DLSS hasn't even been implemented in that many games either, and the RTX cards have been out for like 4 years, imagine how slow adoption of directstorage with be.

I hope this sees huge gains at 1440p. I'm not bothered about resolution. I want 260 fps to go with,my 32 lg gq850

Ridiculous.
Cooling that size looks like PCIe & ATX should be modified for something special where the GPU isn't hanging on a tiny slot, but screw mounted to the motherboard like CPU coolers.

Are there plans for 4040, 4030, 4020, 3650 or whatever follows the 1650? High End just got crazy the past decade and I am definitely not interested in such monsters.

No game comes even close to eating 24GB of VRAM at any playable frame rate.
And what do you mean Nvidia doesnt increase VRAM?: Off head.
7 - 9 Almost doubled the stack
9 - 10 we stopped even measuring in MB because now we were pushing GBs easy work.
10 - 20 Turing :messenger_anxious:
20 - 30 only the xx70 didnt get an increase

This coming generation alone most of the stack is getting a VRAM increase.
3090Ti - 24GB -> 4090Ti - 48GB
3080 - 10GB -> 4080 - 16GB
3070 - 8GB -> 4070 - 12/10GB

What are you on about?

This chart is missing 4080.. all I see are specs for 4090, 4070 and 4060 , but with wrong labels above.
Nvidia really trying to fuck with us, and consumers are gonna fall for it so they will continue fucking with us.
That "4080" is a frikken joke gen on gen.
Imma hold out as long as I can for the 4080Ti as long as I can, when games actually start pushing me to lower alot of settings the 80Ti should be on the shelves and as disliked as the 3080Ti for being too close to other SKUs, prices should fall quickly for it.............they can keep that fake 4080, ill wait for the real one..
