I returned my 3080 and will wait for the 4080, in the meantime I've got a rtx3060 notebook for peanuts, so that will do in the meantime. But I'm pretty sure nvidia will have a solid offer, what is to see is the amd response

I’m excited to see the new hardware but I plan to just keep my 10900k + 3090 combo. I don’t like the direction that cards are going (hotter, bigger, higher wattage, etc…) and the hardware I have for now still easily does everything I need it to.

Really hoping Nvidia's Step-Up program bails me out from overpaying for my 3080. If it works like the past, they subtract the price you paid from the new price, and since the new prices dropped, the amount I overpaid will be absorbed by the new card. Wouldn't be surprised if they modify the program this year, TBH.

Somehow I suspect my four year old 2080Ti will manage for another three or four years, given the hardware in consoles.

Still....upgrade is enticing for the extra RT perf.
i think you should be able to maintain at least parity with the consoles but usually surpass them somewhat. at least your not someone wait a 2060 saying they will comfortably last the gen

Really want to get a gaming PC, and now I have to income to make a reality.

However, money is still a factor, so I'm hoping this card is realistically priced. Really hoping it retails for a minimum of £1000.

get a 4080 and enjoy 99% of the performance at like 60% of the price
Not this generation.
The 4090s are near double the size of the 4080.
They have a much larger bus width too.

An AD102 4080Ti would be a better bet than the 4080 but Nvidia really fucked us by putting the 4080 on AD103 when last xx80s were 102s.

To be honest if kinda make sense why they did that now.

No one wanted any card but 3080. It was the hardest card to get. And I don't think Nvidia was happy not selling as much 3090 as they wanted.

With this move, you want real extra power ? It's 4090. You want a middle jump from your 3080 ? Go 4090.

This shit is going to heat up the entire house in the winter given the wattage.

I'll be keen on a RTX 4070/4080 if the power draw is reasonable.

Unless by some miracle the 4080 is priced competitively....the 320Bit 4080Ti is probably best bet for the upper tier.

Nvidia are just taking advantage of people over spending at the upper end last gen.

Realistically AD102 is such a big chip they could have:
4090Ti - Full
4090 - As is
4080Ti - 13000 CUDA cores lower memory bus
4080 - 11000 CUDA cores even lower memory bus

All be AD102.

Shifting the 4080 basically down 2 tiers this generation is a huge disservice to buy who upgrade gen on gen.
Even the 1080Ti was 350bit bus....the 4080 is 256bit?
So its actually a 4070?

Hope we're finally at PS5 (dev optimized + coded to metal) levels of power. My mangina is ready.
I doubt it. It'd probably run the Lumen/Nanite UE5 demo at 10-15 FPS max. Might push it to 20 if you OC and use the full 660W. All the GPU power in the world can't make up for Sony's secret SSD sauce.

I feel like the time with my 3080ti has been too short.

Have you found it to be adequate for 4k (if you play at that resolution)?

The current prices have me very tempted but I'm willing to wait a couple of days to see what the 4xxx series has to offer at a similar price point.

Which is why I am just jumping to 4090. Save my self the headache of waiting and comparing. 4090. Stay for 3 years. Problem solved.

I upgrade with every new architecture. My 3090 strix did me well. Also judging by the price and performance I might not change even. As far as games I want this year and early next year. All the games including cod are fully maxed at 144 ultra settings . I am good to go. Especially since I don't care about ray traced nipples.

This is so tempting even though it's stupid, as I have a 3090 and i9 12900k (and play at 1440p monitor at 240hz) Meaning, I have absolutely no use for this. So.. yeah, I will be "strong" and wait for the 5000-series, probably. At least for the 4090 TI.

It will be sauna-like vibes for those getting this without having absolutely stellar cooling solutions in their rigs.
