Because streaming subscription services from Google and MS were paying the publishers for the privilege. It became a subscription based war that publishers wanted to benefit from

Terraria confirmed to be a bigger franchise than CoD confirmed. Clearly he does not know about the yearly releases, brand or financial power of it.

None of the regulators do. Thats the point. They aren't gamers. They are approaching it from a law perspective just speak about what is presented to them.

They aren't going to get everything right cause once again, they aren't gamers

Yea. That is one of the first things they do in the regulatory process

The problem is when some third parties (like Sony in this case) takes advantage of their ignorance and misleds the regulators.

Sonys lawyers will make just as much of a biased argument against the deal as Microsoft’s lawyers will make a biased argument for the deal. One side calling the other “misleading” is part of this silly game.

You can join our snake firm in the process.
DeepEnigma DeepEnigma is the ceo of our firm, ChorizoPicozo ChorizoPicozo is our advisor. GHG GHG is our representive. Topher Topher handles our financial. R reksveks is our legal council. While me and the rest are workers at the firm.
You are gonna need a HR guy to make sure all the paralegals you hire are smoking' hot. I am overqualified and will happily take that position.

Good explanation, thanks. I still don't see why publishers are entitled to a cut from Nvidia for games people have already paid for, users are NOT renting the games as others have suggested.

Publishers have already been paid for their game, and gamers are using Nvidia's infrastructure. Why are publishers entitled to be paid twice for their game and how is playing on Nvidia any different than playing on Steam?

Yeh that's the way is see it as well. They've already been paid, there's no logical reason for them to attempt to charge users again for what is essentially the same SKU of the game (PC version) so yeh, it's a case of them cutting their nose off to spite their faces.

These are the publishers who refuse to play ball with GFN:
  • 2K Games
  • Activision Blizzard
  • Bandai Namco
  • Bethesda
  • Capcom
  • Konami
  • Microsoft / Xbox Game Studios
  • Quantic Dream
  • Rockstar / Take Two
  • Warner Brothers Interactive
And this is Nvidia's stock response for when people ask why a certain title or publisher isn't available:

KmnI3uk.jpg

I don't really want to get into it here since this isn't the topic for it but there are certain names on that list that stick out to me considering their messaging surrounding the availability of games.

My belief is also that if the majority of the industry is going to be pushed down the road of cloud gaming as a primary means for accessing content then services like GFN are the correct approach and that's what would end up getting my approval. Stuff like Stadia was the absolute worst way to go about it.

If anyone still wondering how big COD IP is.

"According to Activision, the Call of Duty franchise has achieved a life-to-date franchise revenue of more than $30 billion, selling more than 425 million premium games in the process. There have also been more than 125 million players in Warzone since launch and over 650 million fans have downloaded Call of Duty: Mobile around the world."

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
If anyone still wondering how big COD IP is.
Was this a hint for the CMA in case they Google search and end up on a Gaf page, or do you seriously believe anyone on this board are wondering how big cod actually is?

The game that is top five every year across almost any platform?

Most be an indie game tho.

I don't mean for the deal. I am talking about Sony's statements about and towards COD. What they said about that game is flat out not true.

Check my post about COD.
That is what at stake here.

Sony is right about CoD. Even worst COd almost beat elden ring.

COD it's itself a powerhouse.

Activision can sell their own console system with that game.

I am really surprised that they didn't

Honestly, if there is one third-party company that can make a console and probably an xbox and playstation is them. They got very big IPs its not even a joke. imagine brand new games like Diablo, COD, Crash, Spyro, Tony Hawk are exclusive to their console. not on PC or anywhere else. all they need is EA games on board for FIFA and Madden for mainstream gamers and they are golden with the rest of third-party devs making games for them as the main console.

China might give us something soon.

A notification with China's antitrust authority under "normal procedure" into Microsoft's (NASDAQ:MSFT) planned $69 billion acquisition of Activision (NASDAQ:ATVI) may come soon.

China's State Administration for Market Regulation likely wants to first review theEuropean Commission's issues with the proposed combination, according to a Dealreporter item. While the deal is under in-depth review in the U.S., Europe and the U.K., the parties haven't filed with SAMR yet.

The companies initially filed the transaction with SAMR in April under a "simplified procedure," though they were forced to file it under normal procedure. Two separate reports on Friday said that SAMR had rejected the simplified filing request.

The latest report also follows Blizzard Entertainment (ATVI) saying last week that it will be suspending most Blizzard game services in mainland China due to the expiration of the current licensing agreements with NetEase (NTES) in January.

Activision (ATVI) CEO Bobby Kotick recently said its planned $69B sale to Microsoft (MSFT) remains on track to close in the quarter ending in June.

Activision (ATVI) shares gained 1.3% in trading on Tuesday.

Earlier Tuesday Activision (ATVI) was upgraded to outperform at Baird on the likely Microsoft deal close next year and product launches.

What was said that was untrue?
That COD has no competition and its so important that they wouldn’t be able to compete without it

Everyone knows CoD is a powerhouse. Nobody debates that. But so is Fortnite, Apex, PUBG, etc. Sony basically said its COD and nothing else. Thats a lie

That is hyperbole and highly speculative. Exactly the type of arguments that I would expect a lawyer for a multi-billion dollar corporation to make.

Same for Microsoft when their lawyers tried to downplay Call of Duty's importance.

if this deal falls through, could Microsoft use the 70 bill to buy exclusive rights to all of activisions games over the next 20 years lets say? is that something that could happen? Activision would remain indipendant then. is there a fear of that type of stuff happening

The argument is based on speculation no doubt, and it’s equally true Sony will point to worst case scenario even if it seems less of a severe risk. But man, if COD went exclusive as a generation started??? I could easily see it breaking the damn that is holding up the lake of competition. Train starts rolling, snowball rolls down mountain, etc.

100% chance there are lawyers on this board. 100% chance that being a lawyer does not mean someone is an expert on this stuff solely by virtue of being a lawyer. excellent marketing skills on Twitter also does not make a lawyer an expert on subject matter being discussed.
I think we found the lawyer.

not a take, wonder if that could happen which is no good to anybody. was wondering if the actual deal falls through if that would be against the ruling
You come from all of this with the mindset of "console war keep off," which is exactly the issue people have in the first place. You are so close to seeing it. So close.

And it would probably not be lucrative for them to do so.

Your questions always have a lean. ;)

And it was answered, it would not be lucrative for them to do so.

there is no lean to it, again your seeing that in your head. I didn't say it would be good for Microsoft to do that or that they should. I posed a question about if they could legally do it if the deal falls through.

if you bother to read some of my recent posts I have a PS5 and am very happy with it.

Sony going for the throat here.
Everyone has struggled to gain traction in cloud gaming. It's not even clear that cloud gaming is ever going to be a large market.
As for PC, MS have failed to leverage Windows for decades, it's an open platform and consumers are smart enough to choose the services that provide the best value and the best ecosystem. I would hazard to guess that owning Windows has been a detriment to MS attempts to get in to PC gaming.

I spend more time on my PC than my PS5. /shrug

We all have our post histories and reactions.

first up yeah jut because of post history doent mean squat, so you used to be PS player but now Pc

second you can own a console and call out the other and still be right and not engage in warring.

thirdly you have a history of being in xbox threads just to war.

it works both ways buddy, I think some of you posts are valid at times and some just go into console warring.

you ok though I have seen worse on here lol
