Hey Nintendudes, Is Switch 2 vaporware or do you believe?

I still think it's coming. Switch sales, while good, are slowing down. Nvidia is developing a new SoC (T239) based on ARM A78+Ampere, and they're being quiet about it. Zelda is launching next year, almost 6 years after Switch/BotW. The timing lines up.

Considering just how damn many games Nintendo released this year, including a Wii Sports sequel & MK8 DLC, I feel like we ain't seeing new hardware anytime soon. Otherwise you'd think they'd have held more back.

You can't just believe all the crud you hear online.

Every generation there's rumours about powerful Nintendo consoles and it's always total BS. It just isn't happening.

This is not a rumor. This is information from Nvidia themselves, albeit obtained by illegal means.
It doesn't say whether the SoC will actually be in the final product, but we know for a fact that a 12SMs chip exists (T239) and that it is associated to nvn2. As nvn is the switch graphic API, it's easy to guess that nvn2 relates to a new switch.
The existence of t239 was confirmed as recently as September this year by an Nvidia employee: https://lore.kernel.org/all/20220905155759.17743-1-sumitg@nvidia.com/ .
If you wish to trust your gut feeling, more power to you; but once again, this isn't a rumor. If you have any curiosity about that hack, you'll easily find the relevant info.

It's one of the most successful consoles in history. And you think they're cutting its life short?

I'm not expecting a successor until 2024 at the very earliest. If that.

It was not really illegal though. All the merge requests to linux kerenel are public
You can see some commits from google for Chrome OS drivers.

TBH, the Switch should be like the GameBoy until they are ready to make a fully capable console with current tech.
They tried with GameCube - fail.
They (somewhat) tried with WiiU - fail.

Seems each time Nintendo tries to enter tech arms race they lose.

Why bother as long as Sony and Ms are too cowardly to release thier own handheld. No competition.

2015 tablet hardware that was significantly underclocked and released in 2017. It was far from powerful
And yet it sells in millions, it seems like people value great games regardless of tech and hardware the games are on.

Switch may be like Gameboy where it's around so long it becomes an anceint artifact from the dark ages.

Switch 1 has cruddy hardware but I don't think Nintendo is going to release Switch 2 anytime soon because Pokemon and Splatoon sales are higher than ever. They don't care about graphics just profits.

People have been trying to predict this thing for years yet it never comes.

You say this like the Switch has been in the market for 10 years already.

Kinda like all console components these days huh? Neither the PS5 or XBX used top of the line hardware at launch either.
It doesn't matter. Hopefully more trolls will realize the Switch is a portable system with different power expectations/progression than 200w stationary consoles.

no way Nintendo not gonna consider another stronger version of the console especially considering how old it is already and how increasing the performance demand of new game.

even if there is no '2' version of it, atleast they should planning new console to succeed.

but considering how good and well received the Switch is, many hoping that they would keep carrying the design and idea behind it, release new iteration that fix the current version weakness so we can get 'best' console ever. totally no brainer. obviously, the weakness is the processing power.

Steamdeck show that it is possible but only question is can they do it with cheaper price? knowing Nintendo they tend to choose older hardware so they can reach price sweetspot. so sooner or later, it will come. but dont expect it will come with cutting edge hardware. im gonna pleasantly suprise if they did.

I'm using Mario Kart 8's Booster Pass timeline as my gauge on when the Switch 2 could potentially be out and the booster pass is finished around the end of 2023. Team 2024

I'm pretty there is not a single human on this planet who ever referred to themselves as a 'Nintenddude'.

Nintendo in their most recent earnings briefing was talking about how the Nintendo Account is crucial for the transition to their next console, so I think we'll probably see a situation where Switch games run natively on whatever comes next (connection is that, for the first time (?), you'll be able to carry over your digitally purchased games to the next console thanks to the unified account (yeah better late than never)).

Not sure if they will use the same storage format, but from what I've googled there is technology for the current Switch game carts to hold 64GB - for reference BOTW base game is 13.4gb (no idea about the expansions or patches) so one would think 64gb is ample even for newer games with higher res textures.

If they do opt for the same storage format then they could make all Switch games (physical or digital) natively compatible with the new device.
Plus, Nintendo has already merged its home and handheld console game development teams into one so the chances that the next Nintendo device is not some form of Switch is pretty low IMO.

Hell, maybe the new console (let's call it Switch 2) really will just be the Pro variant of the Switch family. I wouldn't even be surprised if it's practically the same design with joy-cons but just with much more powerful hardware (and perhaps 15-20% beefier in terms of the main unit minus the joy cons).

Who's to say they will stick with Nvidia, Almost like people forgot about the exploit built into every 1st gen Switch allowing for easy homebrew.

Is a successor to the Switch in developement? More than likely, yes. R&D takes time.
Is it a Switch 2? I don't know. And as long as Nintendo stays silent about it, I'll just asume it doesn't exist.
Rumors are wrong most of the time so I won't waste my time with them.

I mean, they will eventually release a new console. When? Who knows, the switch is currently 5yo. Ps3 and 4 didn't have successors until 8yo

Yes. Too much smoke now. I expect February announcement. Two weeks or so after FE Engage launch.

I think we get a Switch style announcement video instead of a Feb Direct. Launches with ZELDA and a couple of major 3rd party titles. Most titles I expect to be cross generation for a while.

I don't know if it will be a Switch 2 or something new, but it's still Nintendo call when they decide to announce new hardware, the question that I'm asking myself, if they want to continue with their philosophy of briging new type of experiences, who knows what they have in mind right now

People are assuming its still going to be ARM based for battery life and BC.
Nintendo have been using ARM in their handhelds since the Gameboy Advance, I dont think they will jump ship now.
Sure they could go to MediaTek or Qualcomm....but lets be real, thats not going to happen.
AMD doesnt have any ARM SoCs but they could develop one from "scratch" for the Super Switch.
Lets be real though, its going to be a Tegra.
If its Ada based even better.

Tegra Orin as is makes perfect sense for a Super Switch, 4+TF GPU with a relatively powerful CPU would be like having a PS4Pro in your "pocket".
God of War Ragnorok, TLOU2, Horizon Forbidden West look absolutely stunning on a PS4Pro.
They honestly dont need much more power than that, so their custom SoC could probably even be the low voltage versions of Orin bringing down the TFlop count in handheld mode.

Everyone wants a Switch 2 but this is Nintendo. They’re probably going to do something completely different and many fans will be mad about it. And it will still probably be less powerful than your current phone.

Whatever it is, it'll definitely run Switch 1 games. You see a lot of first party Switch games already using Dynamic Resolution Scaling, meaning some Switch 1 games can look better on new hardware without a patch.

Switch graphics fatigue has really hit me this year. I just don't want to deal with sub 30 frame rates and ultra low resolutions anymore.

My only hope is that the recent Pokemon technical debacle is a wake up call for more Nintendo fans (who am i kidding...), i really hope they reach at least PS4 or PS4 Pro level power in their next iteration and it HAS to be Backwards Compatible and boost games the same way current consoles do with last gen.

I would also love if they release a home console only version with a tad more power for those that don't care about the portable aspect, games ofcourse would be developed with the hybrid model in mind and then just get a boost in resolution and more stable framerate with the home console only version.

They’ll let holidays pass, then a direct in January to unveil it, then release in May 23 with Zelda.

I think they will let it be one of the last switch games and release the switch 2 for later that year around end of summer going into October/November time just in time for Xmas.

With a BotT/TotK double pack remaster.
For home console more power thing I hope the dock provides that and the console is portable but has extra oomph when docked.

I’m definitely up for a Switch 2, but I’m guessing if emulation is up to snuff I’ll be playing Tears of the Kingdom on PC for performance reasons.

I wouldn't mix "Nintendo fans" and "Pokemon fans" together... Pokemon has its own presence not depending on Nintendo and viceversa, if Pokemon went somewhere else, those players will be there instead and won't care about Nintendo anymore lol

Switch has hit the point I don't even want to buy games for it anymore. My kids want the new Pokemon.. but jesus.. the game looks like it barely runs.
They've pushed this shitbox as far as it can go. Time for new hardware.

I have such a huge backlog of switch games that unless the successor is backwards compatible, I probably won’t be biting on the new console at launch like I did with the switch.

I play mostly docked so hopefully we can get a good power boost that will help switch games run a little better and maybe look at little better when the time comes.
