Sony has tried to bring PlayStation Plus on Xbox, but Microsoft 'will not permit' the service on their ecosystem--Sony has likewise 'blocked' Game Pass. Neither Sony nor Microsoft are willing to allow either company's competing services on their respective platforms.

Here's the specific excerpt from Sony's CMA response (Page 14, para. 40):

Third, Microsoft argues that demand for multi-game subscription services would not tip towards Game Pass because Microsoft would also make Game Pass available on PlayStation (Microsoft, para.1.3(g)). But the wider availability of the leading provider (Game Pass), now endowed with exclusive irreplaceable content, and protected by direct and indirect network effects, would makes it harder - not easier - for rival multi-game subscription services to compete. Microsoft's stance that Game Pass availability on PlayStation would be a panacea for the harm from this Transaction rings particularly hollow given that Microsoft does not permit PlayStation Plus to be available on Xbox.

Somehow, I am sure this will not generate an anti consumer rally cry by some greenest of thr greens ;).

Anyways, completely understandable by MS. Neither will allow such a thing on their turf unless forced.

Bo some amazing deals on LGs this year. Just picked up a 42 C2 to use as a second monitor and spare gaming TV. Well worth the upgrade.

On your thread. I wish MS would allow it after all this goes through. I just signed up for three years of Extra with the BF deal and it would be awesome to have all services everywhere.

There is no point in accepting this kind of deal for both parts.
You leave the burden of the hardware (sold at loss or super thin profit margin) to the platform holder and the profits from software/subscriptions go to an other company.
Unless you're just a hardware company and your business model is focused around selling hardware (ex. a TV maker who's selling a smart TV) it has no business sense.

They won't put each other's services on their consoles but it's possible they both end up on PC and therefore practically anything except each others consoles. Makes me wonder if they'll bother having consoles in the not too far off future.

What would Xbox owners even get out of this? The free game per month, everything else about the service is stuff that could never work on Xbox (PSN would never be allowed on Xbox, and Xbox already has cloud saves) I really see hardly any benefit of this to the consumers. Seems rather disingenuous to compare this to offering Game Pass (although Sony would be dumb to allow that regardless) unless there are some extra benefits to PS+ on Xbox that they offered

But Sony should allow GP on PlayStation, lol.

No, of course neither of them would ever allow the competitor's service on their platform. All of this is only to be able to say "we offered them X, but they declined".

What does GP offer that PS+ doesn't? If that's what you're saying, which it seems to be ("disingenuous to compare").

now endowed with exclusive irreplaceable content
Man, I know they are trolling to block this, but this shit never stops being hilarious - an artistic expression (videogame) is considered irreplaceable.
I guess all the museums can just pack up, Louvre got it all on lock with the Mona Lisa.

Microsoft just acts liek the good guy in this but all they want is to be the leader and destroy the competition, they are arrogant. Use money and choke the completion to win. They act liek nice guys giving sony few ips to have on their console and then trying to force sony to have Xbox game pass having this leverage. They are scummy

It actually doesn't because it destroys MS point about gamepass lmao
It really doesn't.
If anything, it helps MS. Because MS actually allows geforce, Luna through browser.
MS can actually say that, Sony refused gamepass, so we had no reason to accept their PS+.
You also have to factor that gamepass has MS day1 games. Until Sony matches that,, MS won't put it on their store. That is another argument MS can use.

It's best to wait CMA opinion about this for now.

I think Sony is trying to be slick with wording. Playstation Plus is different than the new Plus with tiers. Playstation Plus is primarily for access to online play similar to Xbox Live Gold. I highly doubt they afford Microsoft their new subscription service with "native" support and Microsoft said no.

Nothing in that paragraph suggests that Sony has made an attempt that has been blocked by MS. Looks just like an assumption.

Until a few months ago, Sony didn’t have PS+ as a catalog service. And PS Now didn’t allow browser access.

Geforce Now, Luna and Stadia works on Xbox via browser streaming, so PS plus streaming tiers would not be blocked.

do not tempt fate do not contrain Wonder Woman's thighs do not do not
Im assuming they are talking about PSNow cloud streaming(What the CMA is most worried about), and not actually talking about PS+ the service that used to give you free monthly games and access to multiplayer on the Playstation network?

Why does Sony keep arguing about Call of Duty being Xbox exclusive will "kill" their business when Microsoft keeps saying it wont be exclusive?

I also love how right now both companies are hyping each other up while downplaying their successes.

Ohh people wouldnt switch from Xbox to Playstation because of other factors like "Halo".
But Playstation has so many exclusives people wouldnt switch to Xbox just because COD is on Gamepass.
Ohh people dont stick with Playstation because of all the awesome exclusives we have, those exclusives are practically worthless in the grand scheme its COD and third party titles that keep them here.
If Microsoft manages to steal Playstation users they will be able to increase prices to a point we cant keep up.
Sorry what, didnt you just increase the PS5 price and saw no change to demand?
That was different, we did that because of currency trends, global shortages and inflation not because we are frikken awesome and can get away with it........and didnt Microsoft hint at a price increase too?
Hell even with all the tiers of PS+ we are lagging heavily behind Gamepass and Gampass Ultimate (We already know Microsoft is gonna be asking for extra sauce with this one).
Microsoft have a huge advantage in everything, they control Xbox, PC OS Windows and cloud services with Azure.
Mate you control Playstation, port games to Windows and also use Azure services.
But thats different, we dont put PS+ on Windows.

And round and round we go.

Can we just squash or push through these deal so these companies stop looking like little babies.

It seems like you don't know the point of consoles for these manufacturers.

They want to make money from software sold through their stores and their subscription models, not to mention peripherals and the such.

Yeah, NOPE. MS played the victim by saying Sony blocked gamepass and now Sony destroyed MS by saying they did the same with PS Plus.
Well played, Sony.

"Presumably" being the key word here. I'll be interested if any documents come to light that confirm this. Personally, the whole gamepass on rival platforms was a non starter from the get go.
