I haven’t read anything about the show, is it going to be how GOT was?

As in the books are the guidelines but they have some creative licence? Or will they follow the story so far verbatim?

Ita not verbatim which in my opinion is a good thing. If I wanted verbatim I would have just watched a TLOU cutscene YouTube remix.

Loved the first episode.

The intro and before outbreak stuff where 10/10. The talkshow scene with "Bighead" was fantastic addition.

Boston QZ like an 8 or 8.5/10.

But to be fair I'd describe the Boston QZ section in the game as the same.

The story takes its time to find its rhythm after the gut wrenching intro.

I like the little changes they've made from the game to keep us guessing. The fakeout of the normal car crash into the plane crash was great.

I’d say it’s about a ‘get a fucking life’ out of 10.
Got you triggered huh?

Lol, what should we be looking for to rate the show's wokeness?
Part 2 is a good reference.

Sarah is black now so for you that's probably an 11
Not really no.

About a 2/10 if the casting choices bother you.

But I wouldn't say it's woke at all.
That’s good.

Black Sarah
Mexican Tommy
Hispanic Joel
Ugly Ellie*
Disfigured Tess

But they are all mostly decent in the roles. Ellie's actress doesnt look ugly tbh. She looks fine. A bit plain but Ellie is supposed to be plain. I am more pissed about disfiguring Tess. The actress gives the best performance in the episode but she supports a giant bruise on her face that is very distracting. Classic case of Neil going out of his way to make female leads ugly. It's funny that her new model in the remake was criticized for looking trailer trash but she looks far better compared to the tv show version.

Other than that, there is really no woke stuff. The actors despite being miscast all give a decent performance especially Sarah who I thought was better than Ellie. Tommy doesnt have much to do but Pedro Pascal is fine. Not my Joel, but good mainstream Joel the audience can immediately connect with. They are trying to humanize him here which is odd but not exactly woke.

if you can get over the casting decisions, there is really nothing woke here. Just a warning. Bill from Boston now has a boyfriend who is still alive unlike the game so thats probably episode 3. But just having a gay character doesnt make something woke imo.
That’s very detailed. Thanks. I will give it a go. Hopefully they don’t fuck it up by season 2.

Represent.

Represent(ative) of bad opinions
Season 2 has the potential to be so Fucking good.

The Seraphites alone could make for an interesting arc. Similar to the whisperers in Walking Dead

Yeah that got me too. Something about Joel yelling at that woman to get back in the house and lock her doors sounded so fucking real to me and that just made shit so tense. Tommy not hesitating to run the infected neighbors over. That whole scene leading up to the airplane crash was pure panic.
Oh I meant when she went round and was choosing a DVD to borrow and the grannies blurred out behined her but opening her mouth and doing weird stuff. That kind of thing creeps me out

Yeah that other scene was great an all, it got me thinking though, could you run your neighbour over though if you didnt really know what was happening

well, there is a few I probably would.. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Watched the first episode, I thought it was a mixed bag, some parts I really really enjoyed and found quite engaging.

Other parts I found really slow/dull.

I think the episodes are super long though.

I also liked the tv versions of Ellie and Joel more than I expected.

Edit: when I say mixed bag, I don't mean anything bad, I just mean I really enjoyed some parts and found some parts dull (before anyone tells me I'm wrong or whatever)

This was the longest episode of the season becuase they cut two episodes together. The rest of them are like half as long

You could’ve just simply ignored the question. Already got my answer.
These seemed to have picked up on some wokeness with how they changed Joel's character(more docile, Sarah doing everything for Joel since it seems Joel can't do it himself)

They liked the game parts but not all the added stuff which felt more like padding and ruining the pace than adding anything meaningful.

Also global warming is now a factor in the virus' existence.

Just watch first episode.

I really liked the game and I'd say the episode is good and does a nice job adapting it.

However I never felt any tension like I was during the game.

The death of Sarah really didn't impact me.

Maybe episode is too long? Maybe it's because I played the game and wanted the same feeling ?
Will follow to see how it continue. Don't know if first season will cover the first game but I want to see the final section of the game and ending. Love them in the game.

My wife, non gamer but don't like this kind of universe (even so she enjoyed a lot I am a legend), didn't find it crazy. Nothing really grab her attention. This kind of go with my feeling of lack of tension. She'll watch 1 or 2 more episodes to see but she's really not sure to watch it all.

Well it is great to be honest, but those Actors? Could choose worse in my opinion.

But yeah it is sort of meh after you play the game. But I am glad that they are faithful to material and not fucking Uncharted.

The opening was amazing, really captured the same vibes as the game. sorta wish they lingered on the death for a little bit longer.
The actors completely nailed the performances

Can't wait for the next episode, sucks that we have to wait weekly.

Wait...mentioning global warming is "woke" now?

Is this going to be woke once they mention vaccines as well? lmao

Also Joel is docile? The same Joel that grabbed a dead kid and threw into the fire because the one responsible for the task couldn't? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Loads crap.
Docile? Joel literally gives no fucks.
He picks up a dead child throw in the fire without second thought. Treat to brake the jaw of of a guy who was trying to preach fireflies on him. Punch through a soldier face. Throw Ellie into a wall.

In what part of this episode Joel was Docile?
More docile, not completely docile compared to game Joel. Probably also referring to Tess who Joel is now seemingly awaits orders from rather than taking initiative.
Wtf is wrong with you?
I swear you can just watch the god damn thing 8nstead of being a bitter hater

Don't bother. The guy is one of one of those anti-woke crusader who derails any movie/TV thread with the latest talking points from his favorite outrage YouTubers. Just ignore and move on.

I personally think the sarah dying scene was WAY better in the game.

Troy did a much better acting out the scene, and the title card and opening hitting right after that was WAY more effective. The fade out from black was kinda lame in the show.

was thinking first episode would be the most problematic because of all the stuff it needed to cover.
they navigated it quite masterfully honestly.

Climate change :messenger_hushed: :messenger_hushed:

So they basically gave away the ending of the series. Decades later after the earth heals itself and cools back down, it reverts the fungal evolution.

Would depend who's mentioning it and why. Neil seems progressive these days so if he included it into the story now then it could be for woke reasons. It could be just a minor detail in this new version of the story or something that's expanded upon later in the show, it's too early to say if it was a meaningful addition or not.

More docile, not docile.

Holly fuck. Tess and Joel interaction is literally 1 to 1 in the game. Even in the game tess was leading the way till she died facts.

Watch the 5 minutes and you'll get your answer.

And yes you are hater. Let's just cut the crap

Overall I liked it but something bothered me about that scene where they found out about Ellie’s infection, it was rushed and felt nah its like she was so ready to say the line, also I was expecting a reaction from Joel. Other things was ok and still I think the cast could be better than this specially Ellie tho I really liked Tess.

Good episode I give it 8

These seemed to disagree and found Tess a lot more in charge compared to the game. Could be a good or bad change, depends on the rest of the series.

I'm not hatin', I'm pointing out changes the series made compared to the game.

I'm waiting for the whole season to be out before I'm watching it.

I liked it.

The reveal of Ellie's immunity was the one scene I thought was done much better in the game though.

That's for episode 2. I'm sure they won't just accept this and move on. They were on the run at that point anyway.

Just watched the first episode and Pascal kills it as Joel. And Bella works better as Ellie than I expect.

Overall solid episode 1.

I'm telling you right now they are full of shit. The dialogue between Joel and tess os almost 1 to 1 with the game. Tess is dealing while Joel is pissed off on the background. They show what happened to tess and Robert pretty much the few hours before tess wakes up Joel when it the game the 20 years later pops up.

Anyway you will see when you watch. In fact the add more nuance on why Joel is pretty much no fucks given attitude.

Replay the game and pay atention. You dont know what you are talking about.

On the game she was also bossing him around. Their dynamic is identical on the show. Joel is viewed as her "muscle", and Tess controls the leash.

This is also mentioned on the podcast about the 1st episode with Mazin, Druckman and Troy Backer

"That" scene is even more devastating in live action...sheesh.
It gets harder to watch on each playthrough and i was in suspense waiting for what was coming.

Girlfriend knew nothing of the game before, said she didnt want to watch it, and now wants to watch it. Hell of a conversion because shes usually adamant she doesnt like something if it doesnt seem up her street.

This is why I keep saying that you don't have a good understanding of the story.

Tess was in charge in the first game.

Go back and watch the first encounter with Robert's men. She was demanding that his men tell her where Robert was located. When that man told her he would bash her skull in, Tess said, "Fuck this" and shot him dead.

When they finally caught up with Robert, she was the one who interrogated him and shot him dead when she didn't like the answers he was giving her.

Oh, this was also the same Tess in the video game who was ready to shoot Ellie as soon as she found out she was infected.

Exactly. If anyone is softer in the tv show is actually Tess and not Joel. But that can’t be said otherwise the “woke” narrative fails.

Its funny cause at the other place im already seeing complaints that they made Tess look weaker and she gave too much power to Joel.

nd here the anti-woke police are saying the opposite lol
