HBO Original | The Last of Us | Part 1 OT | Endure & Survive

replayed some of the game. I noticed ppl saying that Marlene in the show was the same person from the game. Thought she was kinda bad in the show. Surprisingly in the game she's good.

Seems like they are just retelling the games story, not sure how it’s going to fill 9 episodes, I’m guessing lots of flashbacks and filler content. Wife liked it, but complained it was another zombie tv show,

Elle actress was a bit shit, but did anyone like Elle in the game. Not sure why she was main in part 2.

Part 2 story was so bad, so at least I don’t have wait for season 2 😂
Episode 2: left behind plus Boston state house. Tess dies.
Episode 3: bills town plus another flashback. Maybe ashley Johnson giving birth to ellie.
Episode 4 and 5: Pittsburgh And sewers. Sam and his brother what’s his face.

Episode 6: Tommy’s town. Fully fleshed out this time.

Episode 7: university and winter part 1
Episode 8: winter part 2.

Episode 9: hospital plus Abby’s intro.

This is the one time I agree with the internet - Florence Pugh needs to play Abby

Not only could she easily be made to look the part (minus the buffness), but she is a phenomenal actress.

You're not gonna find a super buff girl that can act to play Abby - so she wont be buff in the show.

That all part plays out differently. Joel motivations is completely different from the game

Hands down.
I feelings exactly. The left and right are the most annoying people in the world. I wish they could just fuck off
I know. Just saying clearly some part didn't make it to the final version. Make me feel little disappointed.
Well since these people never actually played the game, wait until they find out Ellie is a lesbian. They'll spit out their bigot sandwiches.
Wait until we reach episode 3. They'll lose their mind when find out Bill's gay and have whole episode focus on his relationship lol

It's good enough. Looks like faithful adaptation. I like zombies introduction, character development, even the world.
Knowing the source can't wait to be slapped in the face couple of times with the Ellie's sexual orientation. "rollingeyes.gif"
Hope this part to be handled good as how they did in The Peacemaker.
But let's see how it's unfolds. For now - 8/10 just like the game.

Complaining about ‚wokeness’ in modern entertainment, and yearning for the ‚good old days’ of the pre-2010 era is just retarded at this point. It‘s not like girlbossery or anti-racism are new phenomena. I mean, ‚To kill a Mockingbird‘ came out in 1962, and that‘s one of the ‚wokest‘ movies you‘ll ever see, establishing the stereotype of the white woman falsely accusing a black man for raping her. ‚A Time to Kill‘, a 1996 movie about a bunch of sweaty white rednecks raping a black girl, is actually based on a book that’s based on a real case – except the book reversed the races of victim and perpetrators! Hollywood has been doing this stuff for a long, long time, and anyone who claims there‘s some ‚new‘ trend going on is just dishonest. What‘s changed is simply that the writing has gotten worse and less subtle, which is why it‘s easier to notice this kind of messaging. But it has always been there.

I think this loss of subtlety is also noticeable between TLoU 1 and 2. Part 1 is just as ‚woke‘ as part 2, but since it‘s more subtle, and better paced overall, and revolves around Joel and Ellie‘s developing father-daughter relationship (which is something very wholesome in a bleak world like this), the wokeness kind of flies over most people‘s head. If part 1 hadn’t come out 10 years ago, but only today, you can bet the messaging would’ve been much more ‚in your face‘, and the game would’ve been just as divisive as part 2.

Anyway, regarding the show, Tess following Joel‘s lead actually mirrors how gender dynamics work in the real world, and feels more natural than their dynamic in the game. So in that aspect the show is actually less ‚woke‘ than the game lol. Overall, I think it would‘ve been pretty hard for HBO to fuck up a show based on TLoU part 1; the story and themes are too straightforward and wholesome to mess up. It‘s part 2 that‘s gonna be the real challenge. If they adapt that as faithfully as they seem to be adapting part 1, then I expect future seasons to be just as divisive as the second game.

Finally watched the pilot, and i am a bit … disappointed, with all that hype I was expecting a bit more, show is good, but not brilliant (talkig about episode 1 only). Will continue watching to see if it improves.

Btw my partner, have the same opinion.

We both scored episode 1 - 6/10, still better than halo tv show episode 1

Florence is a little pint sized bundle of British brilliant Ness.....she's probably too short.....but you know what. I effing love this suggestion. I think Abby is awesome so this would be a perfect casting for me.

Yup, sold.

I really enjoyed the first episode. I'm still not totally totally sold on Bella Ramsey, but I think she's got Ellie's attitude down, and I liked the scene where she was introduced. The final shot, with the pouring rain, the collapsed buildings and Depeche Mode playing in the background was superb.

I’ve watched the first 80 minutes last night. Can’t say I’m not enjoying all the new additions that were not in the game. It makes it fresh for someone like me who finished the game multiple times.

I enjoyed this post.

You're correct from my perspective, that script writing and writing in general in pop culture media is becoming awful, and if not awful then subtle as a commercial airplane crashing into the ground and exploding right behind you. Just as a random example. I blame it on the short attention spans diminishing script writer's need for anything resembling a coherent character arc. I don't think TLOU will mess this up, given the source material, but

I also believe that "woke," agendas and ideologies are becoming more frequent and aggressive BECAUSE the writing has become so terrible in mainstream entertainment, that it lowers the bar and destroys the barrier for entry. Woke or not, everyone has had this scenario: Oh, sweet! They're making a [movie/sequel/show] out of [property I like] and it's directed or written or fucking both by Dick McNobody. I dunno. I know most people start as creditless unknowns and have to forge a career to get big, but there are SO MANY nobodies now. But whatever, rambling now, but I wanted to reply to an interesting post.

I love this YouTube channel and I love that they're going to cover the series.

I dig the channel and the dude's genuine enthusiasm, but those thumbnails, ROFL

Hey guys! We've got lots of little details that you might not have caught! Did you see the fucking catatonic old woman fucking convulsing in the background of the scene with Sarah? It was in the background and the background was blurry, here's a huge goddamn red circle in case you finally huffed too much paint thinner.

watched first ep, was pretty much identical to what i remember of the game which im not sure is a good thing, was hoping it would be fleshed out a lot more however it worked well enough so we shall see as the episodes roll out in an archaic weekly manner.

wokeness and anti-wokeness. Such an ouroboros of hyperboles, cherry-picking, misrepresenting, pushing back to the push-back, waiving off the extremely bad (mobs, people being driven off work or even to suicide, death threats, targeting, stalking), victimization, power-trips from silencing the "other-think", backward logic and grifting idiots for likes/clicks/monetization.

It's occasionally funny to point out but all in all it's probably as ugly as it gets, and the circle speed accelerates rather than slowing down.

I wonder if anyone's surprised though. Did we magically expect the "one side" to be all calm and logical about it? Was there anything to suggest that enough momentum was building up to stopping this and not grift as hard as possible to exploit it forever?

Anyway, the show seems great in the pilot so far. Everyone's seems to be getting their humanization moment. Terrorist or freedom-fighter, drug smuggler/dealer, double faced traitor or survivor in a post-apocalypse, soldier at the militant government' service who can't sleep from what they've seen or done.

And... the global warming reference. It's just there as a potential explanation for the fungus evolving and adapting. The warming thing has been a worry since when I can remember myself, anyway, and that's since the 80's at least. It's definitely realistic in my book that people would point to that too for such a scenario (it's also been listed as a potential factor for the Covid-19 pandemic too).

So...TLOU Part 1 is about to enter Steams top 10 of the best selling games. At #11 right now (not counting the free games above it of course).
And this is after only a single episode!

Can't wait to bring back some topics that were made when this remake was first announced :)

Fuckers nailed it. Stayed true to the game and extra stuff to keep those who played the game interested.

Gives me hope for god of war and horizon shows to be taken more seriously.

I went to check global top sellers and its in ~50 place excluding free games. Are you sure you don't have regional/language filters on? Could be trending more in some specific countries (its in the ~20 places in brazil for example)

Yeah, it's nowhere near the top 20 here in the Benelux on steam global chart.

I watched it with an open mind and was quite surprised on how faithful it was with some nice TV changes like the Airplane crash and the Car Fake out, not sold on the Actors, but they do sound and act the same in in game, its more the looks tbh, I look forward to next weeks, that closing shot was so well done, I could even see how they go up the side to the right into the Towers, its was nearly a perfect recreation of the game

Still a nice surprise considering the Halo show, that was a fucking travesty, a solid 8/10 imo

Watched the whole movie episode yesterday.
My wife got mad at me for not telling her the episode was so long beforehand, and she went to bed later than initially planned. I guess it'll take us 3 days to watch that ~2 hour episode.

Regardless, the show seems good. Not OMG-IT'S-100%-ROTTENTOMATOES good, at least not for the 1st episode, but it's definitely above average in production and screenwriting like e.g. Andor.
Pedro Pascal, Anna Torv and the rest of the cast seem really into it and they're doing great.

Bella Ramsey as Ellie, on the other hand, does not.
She moves and speaks fine, but she's apparently incapable of doing facial expressions and that's constantly putting me off.
Every single time there was a close-up on her face (and there's a lot of those in the first episode), all I could think of was Saitama's dork face. And she's always making that face.

This is Bella Ramsey when Ellie's relaxed in a room:

This is Bella Ramsey when Ellie gets knocked against a wall:

And this is Bella Ramsey when a guard points a rifle at Ellie:

Sure, they didn't need to choose a conventionally pretty actress for the role. That part's fine to me.
But Ellie's facial expressions are always a big part of what sets the mood in the games, and they went with an actress who seems unable to do any.

Just look at this example.

Pedro Pascal is clearly using a facial expression that transpires danger and anxiety. I can tell he's in a hurry and worried about who or what he'll encounter in the next turn he makes.
Bella Ramsay in the back looks like she's in a line for getting in the school bus on a tuesday morning, wondering if her mom ever really packed that extra jam sandwich she asked for.

Haha I totally you were joking but you were serious! This whole whole thing is far past comical at this point. For sake of clarity, is the part 1 woke also or is it just part 2? And what exactly made it woke again? The musicale woman? Too much lesbian action?

Just so you know, I’m not trying to attack you. Just really curious.
Part 1 wasn’t woke. It was a great story. They went woke with part 2. Part 1 was a simple story. Part 2 they injected their politics with stupid unnecessary changes for the sake of woke.

Its as "woke" as anything. The internet and it's obsession with things being woke is hilarious. Especially when you ignore it in one thing and claim it ruined the next.

What a load of nonsense you are spouting.

Pedro is excellent as Joel. Bella is awful as Ellie. She is just not a good actor not just her looks. I mean Sarah actor is better.

It was slightly distracting watch some of the 1:1 scenes. Even my daughter, who hasn't played the game, said when Joel, Sarah and Tommy escape with the car that "this looks like a set piece".

Yes it does and yes it is.

Other than that and a few others, the pilot was well done. Will watch.

I’m not gonna drail the thread. I have played Part 1 more than you have and the focus is the story.

I wouldn't bet on that. I've played both games a hell of a lot.

No one has said the focus isn't the story....

The focus is also the story in Part 2 despite the fact you consider it "Woke" 🤣

Sexual preference, gender, race is not woke in itself, if the show is making it a defining characteristic and worthy of big attention is when things can start to appear woke.
