EA Plotting Patch for Dead Space PS5 Remake's Bugged Graphics

EA is plotting a patch for Dead Space’s otherwise acclaimed PS5 remake which will fix a resolution scaling issue. Fans on Reddit spotted the title’s image quality would take an unprecedented dip in select situations, ruining the visuals. Many believe this bug is a fault of Virtual Super Resolution – a technology which enables a release to render at higher resolutions before being downscaled to a typical display – and was introduced with the title’s v1.000.002 patch, as it wasn’t occurring as aggressively prior.

“The team is working on a patch that will improve the issue on PS5,” a spokesperson wrote on the series’ official Reddit page. “[There’s] no ETA quite yet, but I’ll keep you all updated. Thank you for your patience as well as your help with identifying this issue!”

According to DF the PS5 version’s issues arise from the need to use software VRS:

No, he didn't. He specifically points out that vrs degrades the image on BOTH the xbox and ps5 versions, and that the xbox version is affected "Not quite to the same degree but it's still pretty awful".
He even provides a screenshot to show this. Hmmm the screenshots were in a different tweet.

It was said routinely around this generation launch that Xbox had full RDNA2 but PS5 had some custom chip that had RDNA2 features despite not actually being it. Time has proven them wrong, it's basically just RDNA1.
The developers acknowledging an issue on their side and working on a patch speaks about the hardware of the platform? I imagine Callisto Protocol launching with inferior sub-30fps performance and no RT means series X is on Vega then? Yeah, let's not do this crap again after two years.

The game looks horrible in some scenes and not even in the intense ones, elevators for instance can ruin the quality. Just another case of - how the hell did they miss this prior to launch (or made things worse in the patch and didn't notice themselves).

Because they know they can fix it later and are in a rush to get it out the door these days to make sales goals.

I hate to say it, but this is why I struggle to drop $70 on a game upon release.

There are so many games, which are inherently good or great games, but they end up being plagued by a myriad of balancing, QoL, bugs or visual issues.

I hear Calisto Protocol has been improved quite a bit after launch by patches. Cyberpunk is the most egregious example, but there are others. Dying Light 2 was this way, etc.

It's best to wait these days and get the game a month or two later. 90% of the time, you get a much better product that's been refined.

What John says:

1: XSX uses VRS tier 2 vs. PS5 which uses VRS software. Confirmed by developers.

2: The image degradation on PS5 is clearly greater than in the other versions that use hardware VRS. While neither Tier 2 is implemented in the desired way on XSeries nor PC either.

3: The Studio is working on improving the implementation and results of VRS on all platforms and enabling an option on PC to be able to disable VRS.

We'll see in due course if it can really improve.

Ok, I have bought the game and I'm going to enjoy it, but am I thr only one who thinks this isn't as good looking as it should be?
Maybe the Frostbite engine isn't cutting edge anymore?
I'm not bothered by the game needing a patch, most games do. I will wait until it's good to go before I play it.
And with regards to the VRS?
We have known for awhile that the Xbox has hardware VRS and the PS5 doesn't. EA said awhile ago that they have software VRS in their engine, and they said they think its as good as hardware solutions.
That was with VRS 1.0 mind you, so I am assuming VRS 2.0 is better than their software version otherwise they would have used it on both versions.

For me I’m not bothered much by the visuals. But I do experiencing some bug. sometimes when I load my save, the camera gets stuck in save spot and can’t move camera at all and I’m force to reload my save again.

It uses software VRS rather than hardware VRS.
I totally forgot the ps5 doesn't have the hardware to do it? Why would something like vrs be hardware based. The gpus are just the same aren't they but one with less CUs but faster.

Ahh feck it, looks like it's getting sorted.

I have a certification exam in like a week, so haven’t bought this yet as it will distract me, does this mean that I should buy the Series X Version?

Why are so many people pretending to know what VRS is and how the PS5's architecture is the problem? If the game looks worse than other PS5 games, then it is probably not something inherent to the PS5 but the normal slipshod QA that is present in every damn new game these days.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
i guess we'll see the actual comparison once VRS software or hardware is fixed on consoles.

VRS is almost always badly implemented. It might look a bit better on Xbox but it still fuck ups IQ.

I dont know what devs are thinking sometimes, create some beautiful assets and then destroy them with VRS lol
Yeah, the V in VRS stands for Vaseline edition IMO, and it just needs to die. Who thought it'd be a good idea to use it knowing what it does to visuals lol.
