From "Phil Should be fired" to "Jim should be fired" in one week

I think you are missing a key ingredients.
I am a casual, unlike you guys. And what I saw is exactly what Sony and MS are going after.

From mobile side, there are a lot of devs that are charging 100$ for packs. Whenever bad stuff happens, they usually good freebies, which people forget about it, then go back and do the same shit.

MS and Sony are tasting the waters for these behaviors. And as time goes on, they will find that the people that complain on the internet are nothing but a minority.
You can see this with how Ubisoft, EA, take2 and Activision act.
You have 8k posts on an enthusiast gaming board in less than a year. You are anything but a casual.

Crazy isn't it. I'm pretty sure Jim Ryan isn't a human being but the playstation brand has never been stronger.

Xbox is a funny one... I've owned every iteration since the OG launch and genuinely think they've been fantastic for the industry. They just need games contrary to what Phil said last week. GamePass is the ONLY thing outside of legacy libraries and friendslists carrying the platform.

After the Xbox 360 their success should have been NAILED on.. they had indies and the next generation platform and online infrastructure and social elements nailed; they forgot (overnight) that they were a games company.
Yeah, this pretty much nails it. Sony's presentation sucked IMO, but I will still defend Sony as long as they can deliver high quality exclusives. They always have 2-3 ready to go each year. That is what is holding them up. MS on otherhand has been unable to deliver legit good exclusives and that will eventually hurt Gamepass in the long run. Starfield isn't going to be a game changer for Xbox, but it can definitely move the needle and that is what it needs to start with.

Nobody should take seriously any call for any CEO to resign, and I don't think anyone really means it when they ask for Spencer / Ryan to be fired?

People give way too much influence to them when all they do is follow whatever trend makes money in the industry.

With his posting habits, he probably doesn’t have much time to game anyway.
True. It’s like Timdog. He spends every minute of his day posting about Xbox on Twitter. When I looked at his Xbox profile years ago he had like 5K gamerscore.

Feynoob may not play many games either but he’s very interested in the hobby which casuals are not. It’s like posting on a racing message board every day and then calling yourself a casual race fan because you aren’t tearing it up on the track.

This is true, he’s very active in the ABK acquisition thread.
Btw, have you seen Timdog’s episode on Twitter he had like 2 weeks ago?

Haha no. I stopped paying attention to that guy back in 2016 or whatever. His grammar and posting style makes it clear he's a nincompoop.

Of course it's not nonsense, you mentioned that "we control things", that's what you believe and what a generation of millennials believes who through "outrage" are going to get things that -in reality- you don't need. Let's list the ones you mentioned?

- Sony honored the price of 59 dollars for Horizon: but in a standard way the price was increased for every release of sony and nintendo already did the same for Zelda.

- You mentioned that one is the lack of innovation, when it is that collectivist thinking that makes the devs not dare to go further in narrative.

-You mentioned that Sony hasn't shown anything new and good since E3 in 2005, however it has been dominating the video game industry for more than 10 years at the end of its own franchises, placing at least 5 games as game of the year throughout this time.

- You mentioned that "we" kept the PS Store on PS3 and Vita up, for what? so the same 100 people (including me) keep playing on those consoles and downloading on the same slow crap server. The funny thing is that Sony would have had a Backward Compatibility policy at least similar to Xbox's, "did we get it?" No.

- We wanted classic next-generation games and we demanded it. For what? so that the same people who demand it do not buy it, is the case of Shadow of the Collosus.

- We wanted Fumito Ueda to complete the Trico trilogy, why? not to buy it.

This generation demands things, but they don't know what they want.

Stop hating a little btw.

I think the Xbox fans are overreaching here. Sony has delivered this gen, Phil hasn't.
Some show case that hasn't wowed isn't anything when the results speak for themselves.

Also can't see anyone calling for jim to be sacked, must be Phil's cohort desperate to bring jim down to Phil's low standards.

They want to feel better. This show or shitting on Jim won’t automatically making Xbox better or Phil over Jim. Xbox hasn’t delivered this gen. Their brand is cracking, mainstream isn’t really interested in their brand. These Phil lovers are last people who should talk and shit on Sony why their brand is dying for the mainstream.

These same people who are shitting on Sony are the same who where complaining that Sony wasn’t investing in GAAS and multiplayer…look at them now making funny about it. Would be funny if Sony will be the only console manufacturer with great performing GAAS titles and singleplayer games.

Xbox is obviously doing a terrible job, but until this showcase it seemed like Sony was firing on all cylinders. The showcase has opened the possibility that Sony's recent success was actually the result of the efforts of the pre-Jim Ryan era of management, and now that Jim's been in charge for long enough to leave his mark on development we might see an overall decline in quality. Maybe that's an overreaction, but it's not an unreasonable one given how bad this showcase was.

I legitimately believe that childish, overly reactionary posts calling for the "end" of a company, the firing of an executive, and doom forecasting over one bad show or one bad game should be met with temp bans or at least warnings. The discourse on the site would improve so quickly if we just get the children to check their hyperbole.

Oh nonsense. Trying holding the fucking industry to some standards for a change. Stop stanning for lazy devs who phone in year after year. Stop stanning for suits who skip e3 after e3 only to show us NOT ACTUAL GAMEPLAY.

The lack of innovation is due to people like you shutting down all criticism of these studios by calling others concern trolls, asking for users to be banned for criticizing your favorite studios, and giving Phil and Jim a pass for unleashing 3 years of cross gen.

The problem is YOU.
Maybe you guys should go into video game development and create a better product. Sounds more productive than bitching about it constantly on an interment forum.

I will never be a supporter of extremist behavior.

But I feel both parties, (these suits that are at the center of the decisions being made) and the fans (that oftentimes have no middle ground or use hyperbole to convey otherwise simple messages) are both to be held accountable.

Cause like what Phil and now Jim have shown, is there there are different ways to shit the coop, and what the fans have shown, is that they would usually have the same extremist response to whatever issue that they are faced with.

We control the narrative. We got MS to revert the Gold price increase from $120 back down to $60. We got MS to literally change the specs of the OG Xbox, remove kinect, remove always online, and even the 10% GPU they had allocated to kinect functions.

We got Sony to stop the PS3 and Vita store closings. We got Sony to honor the $60 price tag for Horizon FW. We got Sony to change their return policy to allow Cyberpunk returns.

We even got Suicide Squad delayed lol

No casual bitched about these things. But companies dont want bad PR. Especially on the internet where it goes viral and dominates the news cycle. You have more power than you think. The worst thing we can do is label each other concern trolls, chicken littles, and shut down discussion because you dont like people overreacting. If we dont overreact over the worst Sony show since E3 2005, we will continue to see Sony pull this shit on us. That overreaction to their E3 2005 conference turned them into a completely different company.
Now you and me are in agreement. Yes, we should bitch. Sony had a terrible show, and deserve to be criticized for it.

But it's ridiculous to act like the sky is falling with Sony because they had a terrible show. Phil is good at PR . Jim Ryan sucks at it.

As long as Sony continues to sell 2-3 big exclusives a year and maintains steady PS5 sales, saying Jim deserves to be fired is ridiculous. As much as I despise Jim Ryan, he does deliver on the bottom line.

Jim should always be fired! At least that's the common narrative on forums. Despite keeping his head down 99.9% of the time and focusing on feeding his audience aka doing his job. Phil on the other hand, spent 10 years gaslighting his audience with meaningless PR and zero introduction of new AAA ip under his tenure.

That is the Paradox of gaming forums.

Here's an idea, actually have a physical game show with a big booth with actual demos, a live presentation with a human audience, actually try and build some hype. This is very missing.

That's what they get when they put a Corporate guy as Head of Playstation. I blame Sony too, cause after years of mostly showing nothing they had to have big guns. I can't believe the higher ups saw that line up and said "Yup that's how we'll satisfy our Audience after two Years of waiting" they're clearly out of Touch with their Audience. People give Phil Spencer so much shit, but I feel like it's time to call out Hulst/ Ryan for their constant mishaps as well

It has nothing to do with marketing.

What does every GaaS trash game looking identical have to do with marketing?

Underwhelming graphics industry wide... marketing?

Lack of innovation anywhere... marketing?

Did you see one new game yesterday that looked fresh and new? Thats marketing?

Raise your standards and start letting these devs know whatever they're doing is simply not good enough
This.

Yeah I wouldnt mind seeing both Jim and Hermen going. Its beem 3-4 years and not really been impressed with what they’ve shown. All games released so far were made and planned before they became heads.

I think Jim Ryan is worse for playstation than Phil Spencer is for Xbox. My opinion has not changed from 2020, and very early on into his tenure people have been asking for him to be fired.

Yeah last night showed how out of touch Jim and Hermen are with the PS hardcore fans

Jim Ryan is ruining the Playstation brand since he took over. GAAS trash, porting Exclusives to PC, lack of new AAA IP at the showcase. They are selling and making money based off the brand loyalty and nothing to do with Jim. Shawn Layden and Andrew House were much better and if running the company we would have seen more AAA exclusives at this point as well as sequels to games like Days Gone or possibly Killzone or Infamous among others. Jim is fools gold and anyone defending him and his decisions needs to get their head out of the ground and come up for air.
