From "Phil Should be fired" to "Jim should be fired" in one week

From firing Phil Spencer and "Xbox is lost" to "Firing Jim Ryan" and "Worst Showcase in years, Sony has no first party games to show"

The industry's main problem is the fanboy base that transitions from oversized hype to utter disappointment with no middle ground.

What does this produce? 1.- Lack of innovation as a result of "repeating the hype of the past, doing the same thing" 2.- Lack of innovation due to "The hate that we are going to receive". 3.- Lack of passion and commitment, notable are the harassment of dubbing actresses and developers by misfits who threaten someone because something "didn't seem" right to them. On the other hand, many developers or managers, in an effort to "fit" with the market, prostitute the product with hidden agendas.

All this reflection is after the Sony showcase, it was a good showcase but the hate received is really unusual. Just like Spencer's statements, they were completely honest and transparent, they are focusing on a service and they have not been given enough credit for an offer -gamepass- which is truly extraordinary and a wonderful backwards compatibility policy that none of their competitors have.
Sad.

The fanboys are truly the worst. I don't even have the energy to put up with them anymore. I haven't ever known such a toxic community. It almost puts you off gaming completely before you realise you're an adult and you should just ignore these kids and let them fight amongst themselves until their balls drop.

Oh nonsense. Try holding the fucking industry to some standards for a change. Stop stanning for lazy devs who phone in year after year. Stop stanning for suits who skip e3 after e3 only to show us NOT ACTUAL GAMEPLAY.

The lack of innovation is due to people like you shutting down all criticism of these studios by calling others concern trolls, asking for users to be banned for criticizing your favorite studios, and giving Phil and Jim a pass for unleashing 3 years of cross gen.

The problem is YOU.

This. At least some has self respect. Refreshing in a world of boot lickers and corporate fanboys.

That is harsh.
How do you expect people to fight casuals. There are too many of them.

Imagine getting this worked up over marketing.

Imagine getting this worked up over marketing.
It has nothing to do with marketing.

What does every GaaS trash game looking identical have to do with marketing?

Underwhelming graphics industry wide... marketing?

Lack of innovation anywhere... marketing?

Did you see one new game yesterday that looked fresh and new? Thats marketing?

Raise your standards and start letting these devs know whatever they're doing is simply not good enough

Crazy isn't it. I'm pretty sure Jim Ryan isn't a human being but the playstation brand has never been stronger.

Xbox is a funny one... I've owned every iteration since the OG launch and genuinely think they've been fantastic for the industry. They just need games contrary to what Phil said last week. GamePass is the ONLY thing outside of legacy libraries and friendslists carrying the platform.

After the Xbox 360 their success should have been NAILED on.. they had indies and the next generation platform and online infrastructure and social elements nailed; they forgot (overnight) that they were a games company.

One thing is for sure, Sony has been coasting on cross gen games greenlit years ago and the push for GAAS is all Jim Ryan and Herman Hulst. It will be interesting to see how the conversation about them develops over the next few years. They expect GAAS to make up 60% of their business in a couple years.

Also, the reception to the GAAS game they announced yesterday is not exactly positive. Make sure to make your voice heard where you can. Don't let the bootlickers silence you.

Yeah. There were times when E3 conferences were incredibly bad to watch but that wasn't really representative of the state of gaming so it wasn't a concern.

If all of the games shown were first party Sony games I would agree with you completely.

They're not and I'm sure people inside Sony groan when they see yet another one of these trend chasing games. Imagine having to keep a straight face when you have to react to that obvious Splatoon ripoff by SE? If you don't then that next Final Fantasy title might not end up on your platform.

It's marketing because you have to show your partner's stuff even when it's obvious that it's got failure written all over it.

Was it though? No notable first party stuff outside of Spidey, CGI trailers galore, not actual gameplay for most things, movie trailers thrown in etc. I’m baffled anyone would call it good.

I do agree people overreact though. One bad show means very little, happens from time to time.

This wasn't a problem last week, so why complain now?

Sony made a decision to do cross generation development based on established game engines and assets which paid immediate dividends for them. They had a solid pipeline up to this point. Microsoft decided to drop last gen cold turkey and build games from scratch. Then the pandemic came and totally decimated their pipeline. Up to this point it's been rough. We'll see if it starts paying off next month.

People need to get their expectations in check. AAA game development is difficult, risky and expensive. It takes years to get brand new projects to a state that they can be shown. Some of you were complaining about Spiderman 2's graphics while at the same time asking "Where's Wolverine"? Well, do you want shiny new graphics on an updated engine, or do you want to play it now? You can't have both. Sony's next gen pipeline is going to take time because they had to deal with the pandemic fallout as well as sacrificing next gen development for crossgen.

I assume Microsoft's showing will be better because they paid the high price for it--cutting their pipeline off at the knees to go straight to next gen development. Time will tell if that was a wise tactic.

Fanboism in a nutshell, this is why I rarely participate in those meaningless acquisition threads, who cares.

We control the narrative. We got MS to revert the Gold price increase from $120 back down to $60. We got MS to literally change the specs of the OG Xbox, remove kinect, remove always online, and even the 10% GPU they had allocated to kinect functions.

We got Sony to stop the PS3 and Vita store closings. We got Sony to honor the $60 price tag for Horizon FW. We got Sony to change their return policy to allow Cyberpunk returns.

We even got Suicide Squad delayed lol

No casual bitched about these things. But companies dont want bad PR. Especially on the internet where it goes viral and dominates the news cycle. You have more power than you think. The worst thing we can do is label each other concern trolls, chicken littles, and shut down discussion because you dont like people overreacting. If we dont overreact over the worst Sony show since E3 2005, we will continue to see Sony pull this shit on us. That overreaction to their E3 2005 conference turned them into a completely different company.

Fanboyism is when you disagree with what a company is doing?
Fanboism is a pattern of behavior. If someone only interested in these type of discussion and rarely care about anything else, I would consider it fanboism

It has to do with intention, its normal to agree or disagree with something. However, there are people eager to see one party winning and other party failing, there is this on going war inside the said person's brain that drived his behavior. Its hard to tell by one isolated act, but as the pattern repeats, that intention became clearer.

I think you are missing a key ingredients.
I am a casual, unlike you guys. And what I saw is exactly what Sony and MS are going after.

From mobile side, there are a lot of devs that are charging 100$ for packs. Whenever bad stuff happens, they usually good freebies, which people forget about it, then go back and do the same shit.

MS and Sony are tasting the waters for these behaviors. And as time goes on, they will find that the people that complain on the internet are nothing but a minority.
You can see this with how Ubisoft, EA, take2 and Activision act.
